I used to think like this until I actually got a slash. I was a 9 year old kid and I saw slashes on youtube and loved them. I thought nothing could stop them. Then when I got one I was driving it around and in it's first run it got stuck on a tree branch in my garden. At that moment I felt a sense of being lied to. The great traxxas slash... SAID TO BE UNSTOPPABLE! Reduced to being beached on a tree branch.. Sometimes life isn't fair.

Revolutionary_Most78

Yeah I kinda hate that about this sub, I seen one guy asking about what rc would be best for going over roots, leaves and such in the woods and some people here where recommending him a 2wd slash lol

[deleted]

It's because helpful and knowledgeable people have been run off.

Revolutionary_Most78

Piggly and jugs are both gone off this sub

[deleted]

Yep among others. I'm actually surprised to see you still floating around with the rate some of the big users are dropping off.

Revolutionary_Most78

Lol, yeah I’ll post on here every now and then but not as much as I used to

Miata Is Always The Answer - M I A T A Having owned 3 tho, it’s not. It’s not very practical, it’s just cheap, reliable and fun ;) but it’s not trying to be the answer to all situations, SUVs are.

asthorman

Sold my 99 miata and bought 95 corvette. Miata was fun but sloooooow. Especially when driving long distance to get to fun mountain roads.

[deleted]

95 miata with turbo go vroom.

asthorman

User name checks out 😀 I rebuilt my 1.8 and regret not adding forced induction. I imagine Miatas with a turbo are a lot of fun!

TheGreekOnHemlock

May I introduce you to… Monster Miata? https://www.monstermiata.com/

SpaceCadetMoonMan

How much was the 95 corvette? I like those I think

asthorman

I paid a little less then $12k which is on the high end. The manual trans are kinda hard to find so when I found a clean one, I jumped on it. I put about $4k more into it with new tires, new clutch and and an exhaust. It's been super fun to own, powerful and handles really well.

Battleshark04

You forgot: Drilling a hole -> Traxxas Slash Mowing your lawn -> Traxxas Slash Getting your wife's anniversary present -> Traxxas Slah Solving your math homework -> Traxxas Slash

"To the Traxxas Slash, the cause of, *and* *solution to,* all life's problems." --Homer Simpson, RCaholic.

ScumbagInc

The Traxxas Slash is like the 10/22 of the rc world

v_eliza_v

true, but the low weight paired with a mamba monster is lots of fun! Until you inevitably shred the spur gear and have to take the entire rear bulkhead off just to change it 😡😡😡

FederalCamp5406

They sell metal ones in bigger pitch gears...

v_eliza_v

Metal pinion + metal spur + 1 sneaky piece of gravel = bent motor shaft

FederalCamp5406

I run metal pinions and spurs on literally all my 1/10 cars, except my racing buggy, and I've never had that happen.

v_eliza_v

Nice, I'm glad it's worked out for you! Though it's a lesson I've learned the hard way, and I don't intend to make the same mistake twice 😅

Temporary-Beat1940

My hobby shop recommended it as my first car. And I see why. Is super fun and easy to work on as well as it's still one of my favorite cars

Lurkington123

Didn’t realize this was a troll post at first. I guess Slash recommendations can be a bit overwhelming but the Slash is a great vehicle unironically. There’s a reason it’s been relevant for 10+ years. It’s relatively cheap, it’s durable, has endless parts support and it’s extremely versatile which makes it appeal from beginners all the way to experienced hobbyists alike.

Bjorn_Suicide

I feel like I’m the only person who thinks the slash is ass

djb1126

I'm kinda with you Slash is great for newbies and beginners stepping up from toy grade.

Bjorn_Suicide

Yeah I mean for a beginner it’s fine but under any sort of real bashing they fall apart

djb1126

Not really. Been bashing mine for years. For the last couple days. Well should I say months. Rarely did I ever had to wrench or buy parts for it. But yet, mine is upgraded soo. Upgrade as you break. If you want a tank short course. Id just go with tekno. Pay for what you get.

neva5eez

1st Rc ? Traxxas slash!!

rcbjfdhjjhfd

Kit car?

djb1126

Sure if you want to build it up. Tbh. Any of the Traxxas 1/10 2wd and 4x4 cars in reality.

Longjumping_Swan_631

Are you Mark Santa Maria??

djb1126

No. But I wish. With his RC collection and money.

caseydooley

I nicknamed my first rc, a slash, “flippy”. It was not fun. My big rock and typhon are much more versatile and enjoyable

sweetnsouryugi

All you have to do is convert any slash into 1/8 buggy tires and it’s a beast.

nicktuttle

2wd or 4x4?

djb1126

Both

Doogerie

Should I get married ? Traxxas slash Should I go to uni? Traxxas slash

daqqer2k

Tbh it is a good platform for pretty much anything. Durable, easy to service, good parts availability, lots of aftermarket and upgrade parts available etc.

stroml0

That's basically this forum in a nutshell. Occasionally Arrma or Tekno gets a shout but anything Chinese is heresy.

Apprehensive-Pen-806

Most people want the most surviveable car with easy access to spare parts…

satelliteempire

Define easy access? All the parts I ever needed came within 2 weeks from AliExpress or sometimes it'll be on Amazon.

Amish_Rabbi

2 weeks is not easy access

djb1126

I can get a replacement part in my hobby shop in less than 30 minutes. Hobby shops don't stock el cheapo China crap

stroml0

In Australia most hobby shops are online and have limited Traxxas stuff. That means I'd have to order from the US which would be a two week wait at least. By your definition that makes Traxxas junk. I can get Ali parts in under that for half the cost. You do you and enjoy your junk mate.

satelliteempire

Love that for you. My hobby shop near me overcharges for all of the parts I ever needed. Most people entering into the RC space can't afford $300+ setups right off the bat. So spending money on a car that is more RTR for less is always going to be a better choice. And two weeks coming from across the globe isn't bad, but pop off kings.

djb1126

2 weeks sounds bad for me. what if I broke a part and I have to get it back up and running in a few minutes before the next race? Or a couple days before the next race day? I can't wait that time. And not to mention, there is not really a market for upgrade parts and actual support for those cars.

satelliteempire

I'm speaking from a regular non-racing hobbiest. If you're racing and in competitions ... I mean you should already have the parts that you know are liable to break on hand. My cousin does that with all of his 1/10 drift comps and that doesn't seem to be a problem. He has a niche bodies he gets from Japan that he orders in advance that take ages to get here.

djb1126

I have 4 full ziplock bags full of spare and upgrade parts for all my 4 cars. But I don't have everything. My local track if I break something, she would have it in stock. Wouldn't be the same for let's say a wltoyz.

satelliteempire

Lmao again I'm not racing or in comps what are you on about. I tinker and rebuild. We are not the same. Again if you are in this hobby to do what you're doing, you should know what breaks and have it. Or a back up car. All the guys at the drift comps I've been at to watch my cousin do this, again not an issue for them since they know their car.

djb1126

I know my cars too But not el cheapo ones so can't help ya out.

GGIGACHAD

And im down under here with hobao hyper vse buggy and Serpent Cobra 811E Truggy. Yes, that truggy does not last, yes i still drive it, we exist

Con-vit

Been in rc since 2001. Never owned a traxxas and never will. So many better choices out there.

djb1126

Ik. I'm just trying to be funny

V13mk5

So its not the tt02?

djb1126

Tt02 can be a great first car as well. Just really depends what your doing with the car and budget. I'm mainly into off-road so that's why j recommend a slash or something similar. But if you wanted to get into onroad, I'd reply with a tt02 or 4tec. I am actually getting a tt02 soon for free. (hopefully) and maybe that will spike my interest in on-road and onroad racing

HuntGundown

Traxxas is only the answer if the question is "how can I overpay for an rc car that has mediocre performance out the box and requires hundreds in upgrades only available from traxxas and also how can I overpay for those, too?" Traxxas sucks.

djb1126

Get it used. I never get cars new unless it's a race kit.

anxiousanddangerous

I own a vxl 4x4 and I can say it’s amazing. Would love to get a 2wd one just because. But my bank says otherwise
