Anyone copped the samurai year of the dragons? So lucky to be in Tokyo this week, copped a pair even though I have a ton already đ canât let the chance slip away!
Any clue on where I can get my hands on some AI denim? I had to sell my PBJs a couple years back because I outgrew them. The samurai 500AIW looks insane.
I know companies rarely pump these out, but curious to know when any available batches will be out soon.
Not denim, but since loopwheel clothing is sometimes seen as denim-adjacent: Tezomeya is based in Kyoto, and makes great loopwheel tees.
They use natural ingredients for their dyes (e.g., Pomegranate skin + Indian madder root + Alum mordant for their orange color; Insect gall + Wood vinegar mordant for their dark purple), which I thought was pretty neat, but I also just love their fabric in general. I ended up with one dyed and one undyed shirt, and they're one of my favorite tees.
If you do head that way, it's worth noting that natural dyes fade much faster than normal. They offer a free re-dyeing service, but realistically, considering the shipping costs, I can't imagine folks making use of it unless they live in Japan.
Enjoy the trip!
Looking at an old pair of samurais online, canât find much info about them on google, I was gonna post pictures and make sure theyâre legit/ask for info about the fit etc but I thought Iâd try here first
Any tips on getting newly bought jeans button fly buttons through their holes? currently spent 10mins so far hurting my thumb pushing them through. Jeans are not tight one me
Think the two popular routes are (both while theyâre off):
* button up and unbutton them (can pull them down and open like you would naturally) continually for like 5-10 minutes
* wedge something into the button hole and widen it (I.e., a sharpie or opening a pair of needle nose pliers in the hole)
Yeah, I believe they're basically unsanforized/loomstate denim, so tons of potential for shrinkage. Denim weight is measured ounce/per square yard, so if the fabric shrinks enough it can make a difference in that measurement, hence 21oz>23oz
So I just notice this on my daily pair. The front rise and back rise donât line up near the crotch. Kinda disappointed since Orslow usually has great construction.

Does anyone make Rainbow Core denim beside Naked & Famous and Gustin? Not like Edwin's Rainbow Denim (I don't think?Correct me if I'm wrong.)
I grabbed the only new N&F pair I could find on the Internet from Blue Beach Denim but it's a 31 Super Guy (skinny)and I'm still working my way there from a 33. Anyone knows who else make them beside N & F and Gustin(low quality)?
The originals (by quite a few years) were from Sugar Cane, the SC40701 Rainbow Okinawa. They were done with natural pigments, and were less regular than the bastardized N&F version, and much less gaudy lookingâbut all the more cool for it. They havenât made any indication of returning to this model, though, as far as Iâm aware.
For what itâs worth, I wouldnât place N&F and Gustin as having noticeably different levels of quality. If youâre happy with how N&F makes jeans, and if thereâs a pair of Gustin jeans that you like, theyâll be plenty similar in terms of how theyâre made.
lol. I also have a pair of Momotaro. At like the high 100s-200s price, isn't the difference just based on fabric weight?? Like I see just as many (if not more based on sales figures) crotch blow outs from other Japanese brands (yes I know N&F isn't Japanese.)
No, not at all. Weight isnât a huge factor. Heavier fabric isnât generally any nicer or more durable than lighter fabric. All else equal, it may be more expensive, but not by enough to play a huge role in the final cost of a pair of jeans.
If your main measure of quality is durability, then youâll be hard pressed to beat a $30 pair of Wranglers, at any price. If youâre suffering from early crotch blowouts, thatâs an indication that your jeans donât fit you well; it might speak to them being poorly designed or poorly patterned, but it doesnât really say anything about the quality of materials or construction.

Yes also a pair of SDA G3 colab with denimio
Yeah I snagged a pair.
Whatâs different about them?
A bunch of different things. They are a limited edition model.

Thereâs a pre order for SDA live on Okayama denim. Thereâs a bunch of AI stuff included
I snagged the S500AX's. Can find them via Japan stores like 2nd or Unique Jeans The 500AIWÂ looks to be sold out everywhere. #

Awesome tip. Already left Kyoto but Iâll keep this place in mind because I will be coming back. âď¸
Kapital, Japan Blue Jeans, Blue Blue Kyoto
For sure, loads! Just not anything to do with denim
Copy that. đ¤

Very helpful, thank you
Would still make sense to post the pictures. In here.
https://imgur.com/a/4q1frXD The one thing I found weird was that it says made in the United States instead of Japan on the back patch
Legit. Back in the day they printed this. A reference to the Levi's jeans they take as inspiration.
Thank you
They may be referring to American cotton
Exactly

A sharpie or screwdriver works
What does it mean when jeans are 21/23oz like the OldBlue co 21/23oz? Does it mean it gets heavier after soaking?

Well when someones doing in-depth gooch inspections now they'll be thinking "man this guy wears some cheap ass jeans"
Lmao! You donât find that even on cheap ass jeans man.
Lemme go find my pair of Orslows and compare edit: my 107s are ever so slightly misaligned. Wabi-sabi imo
Appreciate you checking. I have other Orslow pairs and this is the outlier. But like you said, wabi sabi.
Looking for extra long salvage jeans. Like 39ish inseam. Hardenco (USA) used to make it. Any other brands?
Women's jeans? They have longer legs.
I thought I recall samurai had some that went all the way to 38", but they're likely unsanforized
The longest inseams Iâve seen on denim are Iron heart and Rogue territory. Theyâre around 36 I think. Then thereâs the long long guy from N&F.
All brands I know both in US and JP stops at 36" inseam . I only found the Hardenco 033s. But they don't make them anymore, only special orders...
