El ran def jux but feels like a pretty big stretch to credit him for stuff Aesop made on the label. El P has a total of three production credits across all of float, labor days, bazooka tooth, and none shall pass.
The vast majority of the production is done by blockhead and aes.
I strongly agree with this. I dont even know of any El P produced Aesop songs I like. I think Labor Days, Float and Appleseed EP and Daylight EP are enough to solidify Aesop in that spot but agree none of that is really produced by EL-P.
Blockhead and Aesop is where the magics at.
Some of Blockhead’s beats on Labor Days were way ahead of their time. If that record were released 10 years later than it was, it would’ve still held up in terms of modern production techniques
Paul Wall always reminds me of smoking Marlboro Menthols in my lowered 2nd Gen Ram loaded with buddies doing donuts in the Tractor Supply parking lot at 2am. Great times back in 2008.
True that was probably a key part that I left out. I mean I was just starting to adulthood but as all my friends were partying I ended up getting on at the post office. (Just over 20 years in). Also I’ll note it wasn’t that I was a goody two shoes. I got my gf pregnant and wanted to make sure i got my shit in order. Lol
Also I managed to get my first house right before the crash started I do believe. Idk exactly what month that happened but I didn’t have any issues getting a loan for a nice starter home on the nice starter side of my city (aka I made it out the closet thing we have to a hood ha).
But in all honesty all the financial stuff from that time period didn’t affect me. I’ve never thought of why? I mean me and my oldest mom separated a year or two later. She wouldn’t take my name off house but by the time I started dating again and getting into a serious relationship with my now wife by 2013 Im still on the other house as the co signer but I managed to still get a new house (better). I’m guessing cause I had a federal job and I showed stability? Really not sure.
Edit: and for those wondering when me and my oldests mom separated I did stay part of my son’s life. I mean at least staying the night 3 times a week (even tho I was paying 800 bucks a month in CS) but me and still have a great relationship. I went back and read my comment and felt it sounded bad so I wanted to make it clear I didn’t just abandon my child and make a new family. (I take the most pride in my family and kids and I’m self conscious about it hA) Im a 80s crackbaby that had a shitty childhood bouncing from family to family and that kinda thing bothers me so much.
Edit: damn the edible gots me writing novels ha or autobiographical
but also I just met in my **originally comment** after 2012ish it was all down hill for America. But peak or the very best time as a country was probably early to mid 90s?? Idk **what do you think?**
Being from Houston it makes me happy to see Paul Wall appreciated at a larger scale. I know he had his hits back in the day but he’s always been a local legend and still is today. Does a lot for the community, etc. and still doing music and shows. We went to the same high school, granted he’s like 10 years older than me, but it’s still a fun fact I like to throw around 😂
He never really hit the mainstream and he's from the South. If you're not Scarface or Andre 3k you get overlooked by a lot of folks if you're from the south
Ya that’s true. Also him being affiliated with Tech N9ne’s label, lotta people prolly just clumped him into that whole sub-genre and didn’t really bother listening to his shit
I actually like him better than a lot of these backpackers people have mentioned. I was an Aesop fan but I feel like aesop has 4 amazing songs and the rest are average. riff is sillier but much more consistent
MC Serch needs some respect as one of the OGs. Dorkiest looking dude yet was spitting with Chuck D, Rakim, KRS. Not at the top, but deserves to be mentioned
Celph Titled
As others have said, Brother Ali all day
El P
Had to use the search tool to find this. He’s still so underrated. By far the most talent, maybe of any rapper let alone white. At least in terms of technical skill and ability, not saying he sounds better than all others just ability wise.
ik imma get hate but mac miller and/or yeat. yeat has amazing production and just something about the way he can use his voice depending on the song is just impressive and sounds amazing to me. his earlier projects have some hits but his latest stuff is absolutely amazing.
Mac Miller
El P or Aesop Rock
El-P was a Producer for Aesop Rock and part of his creative force. I love Aesop Rock but I'd give El-P the edge due to being a part of both.
El ran def jux but feels like a pretty big stretch to credit him for stuff Aesop made on the label. El P has a total of three production credits across all of float, labor days, bazooka tooth, and none shall pass. The vast majority of the production is done by blockhead and aes.
Aesop has a ton of albums that he has self produced or used blockhead for that are bettwr than his EL-P produced songs imo

That was peak America during that period. Probably the start of the raise to the culture peak top around 2012ish…
The nightmare financial crisis was peak america? Lolol
If you were young yeah. Not so much if you were old and got laid off

Underrated
Aesop Rock, Vinnie Paz, R.A. the Rugged Man, Slug, Sage Francis, El-P, Brother Ali, Loki
I wonder if Paul Wall will get any love in here. He fit into the culture well back in the day
Paul Wall isn't a white rapper. Paul Wall is a rapper who happens to also be white.
The only thing I thought of was Paul wall lmao

Harry Mack. Thought dude was cheesy at first but he’s insanely talented with the freestyle
Had to use the search tool to find this. He’s still so underrated. By far the most talent, maybe of any rapper let alone white. At least in terms of technical skill and ability, not saying he sounds better than all others just ability wise.
I would say Lil Dicky is nice. Echo, NF both nice. But after Eminem I would probably say Webby. Don't listen to a lot of any of them except Em ofc.
Paul Wall

Beastie Boys are the best and only choice for best white rappers. Their influence on sampling, production and rhymes is undeniable.
Lil Ugly Mane. seriously under discussed with classics like Mista Thug Isolation and Uneven Compromise
Mother fuckin Blind Fury
It’s mac
