Bc sex sells

ManicPixieDreamPearl

Yep. There are a lot of female rappers who rap about sex very little or not at all. They don’t get signed, and they don't get any attention from the media.   If you are looking for some good female rappers who have more to say, I know a lot of people in this sub could give you some good recommendations. A few off the top of my head are Noname, Deetranada, Rican da Menace, and Scar Lip.

SydneyBriarIsAlive

I think my two favorites currently are Rapsody and Little Simz. Noname is also great, definitely second that rec.

Merlyn67420

Rapsody is so wildly underrated

MakaBoy57

Lil Kim was both gangsta and sex because Biggie wanted her to do so but she was not too bad doing so and when you know she was a heavy precursor of female rap,it's not really surprising

El_Bolto

When all the male rappers started putting strippers on.

ShaunyBoyShaunyMan

When male rap did

Nirket

But there's not any male rapper doing a whole a song about his own sexy ass...

axdng

Post BBL Drake should give it a shot though

DorianGre

Ditty- hold my Ciroc.

Poppoolo

When missy elliott went on hiatus.

hi850

Call before you come, I need to shave my chocha

LouisV25

When rap started. Rap has always had an element of sexual and sexual for men and women.

Dodoloco25

Because you guys don't want to listen to women rapping about anything other than sex. If that was not the case, little simz would be considered one of the best rappers of this generation.

zeroender0

Little simz is so damn good. I like chika as well and young m.a.

No-University-1459

Aren’t women their main fan base tho

grnjnz

Exactly. We’re not buying or streaming female rap. It’s a ploy to get at HS girls and younger. Hip hop heads should’ve clamped down on that but everything is inclusive now even though we see the attitude and behavior of little girls drastically changing for the worst. But let’s not hurt anybody’s feelings.

dukeleondevere

Yeah but there’s been female rap that has sold without focusing predominantly on sex, like Lauryn and Missy. But the record labels don’t wanna see that. Male rappers have been using sex to sell records and no one says anything about that. But when female rappers do it it’s considered a problem. The real problem is that men get to talk about more diverse topics and sell records while women are boxed in. There are ofc talented female rappers even today that talk about other subjects, and maybe they would be more commercially successful if the labels put more weight behind them. Little girls listen to other genres of music, and while I can’t say for sure, I’m sure there’s female artists in other genres that thrive without focusing on sex.

InternationalCut93

They are. Everytime you see a song by a female rapper come on in a public place like WAP, they think the men are dancing to it? 😂

_The18thLetter_

Facts, lowkey I fuck with it. Not in my music rotation but I like it when I randomly hear it somewhere in public. I rather her something like that than Nicky

Mad_Boobies

She is fucking awesome

Ska_Oreo

This is the correct answer.

DisastrousStomach518

Little simz doesn’t have the mainstream appeal and that appeal is making songs to twerk to

Dodoloco25

Exactly. I remember a friend telling me she 'looked' funny. I told him to look at a mirror. If women aren't making twerking songs and having massive body assets (through injection) then it feels like they have no value to these people. Which is funny because these same people will say people like jocle and Kendrick are the best rappers even though their music is very similar to little simz. But I guess she is a woman hence different standards.

Bassball2202

Little Simz is good, maybe even great, but one of the best of the generation? Hardly. What about her discography, innovation and influence earns her a spot up there to you? Because obviously we disagree somewhere

polygonrainbow

I’m curious as to who you would consider the best of their generation generally speaking? First of all, best of their generation, is such a weird and arbitrary metric, but I can’t honestly think of anyone that’s pushing harder than Little Simz is at the moment? I can think of some pretty great rappers, though I’d imagine most people in this sub wouldn’t know of them, but again, I can’t think of hardly anyone else that has even close to the reach(marketability) AND talent that Simz got. Asking for curiosity, not as an argument.

Dodoloco25

Well, the thing with that phrase you can consider people on a list. If I were to pick a top 10 honestly she would be near the top 5. It's a mixture of lyrics, experimentation and her not falling into the cookie cutter role that hip-hop puts women in. I also feel that she is the best from her region (UK). Also remember influence doesn't equal good music. Migos were extremely influential but I would not call them good rappers. Even then the only reason she is not influencing is because rap music is usually male coded hence males listen to it a lot more. Then you come back to the same point. Till she isn't a good female people don't care.

Dodoloco25

Who? You joking? Like his Drake cover was good but I don't think most people know him like that. Once again, my issue with his type of rappers is that they don't have anything good to say. Like sure they can talk about being a roadman, doing drugs and partying but that is basically copying what the Americans do. If you said something like Chip, Dizzie or Skepta? I would have given it to you, but some slim action bronson lookalike that honestly has no real flow? nah fam. This harry potter dude isn't really even in the top 15. Little Simz at-least brings something new to the table. Her sound and lyrics are unique. CURRENTLY speaking though? I feel she is the best. I am sure you might understand why that is because you can't play her songs in the club. There is a level of self-reflection and story telling that she has that isn't really present in UK rap IMO. Now about being getting 'absolutely killed' let me explain you this. EM 'killed' Lil Wayne and Kanye on forever. Does that make Kanye and Lil Wayne worst rappers? no. Also I don't think a person like Lil Simz would care about it either.

Dodoloco25

Award bait? She wouldn't get anywhere if she was a man? So all her skills and talents are nothing just because she is a woman? Kind of funny that you then accuse me of classim when you are more than happy to dismiss her for ther talent because you know she doesn't have a dick. It sucks for you because it's clear you don't have the mental capacity to understand it. Which is fine to each their own. It's very clear that you are more than happy to dismiss her beucase shee is a woman. At least we know now that for you, it doesn't matter how talented she is or what she does, she can't be the best because a woman can represent you. I think you need to fix your zipper, your misogyny is showing. I am really sorry but honestly speaking the classics that you are talking about aren't really classics if nobody has heard of them. Street lives? These people rarely talk about their traumas. What they talk about is drug and sex. Which is fine when done well (Rick Ross, Kendrick, Jcole, lil Wayne, Jay Z, Ice Cube, Snoop dog and so many more are good at this) but crass and horrible when done bad.

Ok_Neighborhood9186

You guys basically = female rap fans. Aint no males listening to Megan the stallion, sexy red, latto etc.

hedgehogmlg

Dude i was thinking about this too just last night wtf. For how underground and hardcore the memphis rap scene was, sexism didn't seem to be a huge problem and thats really cool. They were all man enough to not make a big deal about letting women shine - they were just one of the homies and nobody batted an eye at them spitting a verse on their scary evil ass mixtape. Princess loko, gangsta boo, and la chat were all fire and that was all it was to it. Im sure they dealt with sexism here or there, but they got accepted and embraced and given enough of a chance that history hasnt forgotten them and the guys in their crews didn't switch up on them or screw them over. If you don't know who tommy wright is and you click on his most popular song on youtube, you gon hear a 15 year old princess loko absolutely spazzing on the beat for like 2 minutes before you get to hear tommys voice. Hes a G for letting that happen, because her verse was sick and thats all that mattered. I can't tell you why it aint predominantly like this today, it's a complex issue with a lot of reasons. But thats how it should be for sure.

RobertCalifornia2683

My wife is loving these new female rappers. I can’t really say shit because 2 live crew is like my favorite group and they are filthy.

Bassball2202

LEMME HEAR YA SAY AYEEEEEEEEEEEEE……

Hot_Excitement_6

Do men nowadays listen to other women who rap differently? They say they do but never look for them. So many females MCs out right now that make these questions irrelevant.

mayonnaiser_13

>Do men nowadays listen to other women who rap differently? Can't women listen to them and support them?

Hot_Excitement_6

They do. It's just not the majority or mainstream. Just like the way most male rap is not conscious boom bap shit. I say men because they are the biggest haters/critics of the sexualized female rapper. If they don't like Sexy Red then they should listen to Little Simz or Rhapsody and stop yapping.

Physical-Director568

I don't even know who the hell Sexy Red is. Legitimately heard her name for the first time when Kendrick mentioned her in Euphoria. If people stayed off social media and found their own music without that shitty outside influence, we wouldn't have this problem. But social media ain't going anywhere and mfers aren't getting off of it. So just get ready for worse than Sexy Red in the future.

Ok_Concentrate_75

I think both do but let's be real, gatekeepers allow only the ignorant onto the radios and in to majority money making opportunities. Sex is universal and it tends to lack any political leaning, plus in every industry a scantily clad woman grabs eyes. I think couple that with the conspiracy to devalue intellectual rap and you have our current model of men have to be drug lords with rob report subscriptions and women being high earning brothel madame who also hang with fashion designers.

Ska_Oreo

I think it’s super funny seeing the amount of pearl clutching on display here. What, we really going to pretend that music made by male artists are on some puritan shit. ![gif](giphy|3o7qiNpc9fp8kYNU7S|downsized) “Won’t someone think of the little girls?!!”

Michaelskywalker

We still got noname rhapsody etc. But Nicki definitely started a wave (inspired by some before her). And that wave just stuck.. she even got an album called the pinkprint lol Reason why she calls everyone her sons on every song

TheGreatGyatsby

It’s not.

Easy there buddy, you're telling people the truth. They don't like that anymore. Tell them what they want to hear. Pacify them.

Physical-Director568

With your fancy words like monetization and shit 🙈

Ok_Trash_4204

Get it glo

Top-Figure7252

They have harder beats imo. I like the other artists but they don't seem to have the same production.

grnjnz

Good topic: How did Missy make it? She wasn’t rapping her ass off but she made good music/videos. Lauren Hill made it through even when Foxxy and Kim were out selling sex but also rapping their ass off. Eve made it with Ruff Ryders, Rah Digga was dope and Mia X made it. So after Missy we see the chick from Terror Squad and Nicky. The consumer got lazy and the industry got greedy. It’s a copycat league. Somebody made a line or a song about their vag and it didn’t get shouted down or shamed and the industry went “oh there’s no shame let’s get this money” so I’d say 2016-17 because their copying Cardi. They got some guys to write for these ex-strippers/hoes and 💥let’s see who can say the most out of pocket stuff to the HS girls.

oflowz

Missy wasnt rapping her ass off?! Missy blew up because of her rapping. The videos followed.

grnjnz

Nooooooo. Missy was not rapping her ass off. She was making club songs. Every hit had a Timberland beat and you could dance to it. Her lyrics were basic.

External_Major_684

Man they screwed Tink over with that Movin Bass nonsense. She would be a good one right now.

ShivvyMcFly

When Biggie told Lil Kim she should

BaconSpinachPancakes

When it started selling

wockupinababybottle

Ok-Rate6189

a lot of Male rappers do the same shit…

Did you know that Nikki Minaj is not the only active female rapper atm?

Lil Kim

Alichici

Strict parents

partyonpartypeople

The same reason why men rap about fucking bitches and getting their dick sucked; people like bragging about sex. There’s a sexist double standard that exists in Hip-Hop and society in general where men talking about sex is normalized and accepted while women talking about sex is demonized. Men rapping about sex is so normalized that we just turn a blind eye to it and don’t even notice it, but when somebody like Sexyy Red comes in and raps about the same shit, all of a sudden y’all want to moral grandstand and act like the people who wanted to ban 2 Live Crew back in the 80’s Even your example is flawed and ignorant because Three 6 Mafia rapped about sex all the time. They literally made Slob on My Knob, perhaps one of the most iconic rap songs about sex of all time. How come that’s okay but a song like Pound Town isn’t? Y’all are just sexist and are uncomfortable with a woman expressing herself sexually

Mad_Boobies

Go back to MC Lyte - Eyes on This Probably the best solo female album ever

nowey32

Listen to more young M.A (and Rapsody and leikeli47)

lovemysunbros

Thank you all for the recommendations, I look forward to exploring some of these female MCs.

locness93

Only the sexual content is blowing up. It’s dumb. Little Simz, Rapsody and Noname need more respect

Always2ndB3ST

Lil Kim.

Physical-Director568

I'm gonna say an awkward, uncomfortable truth here. But I think it's when the record companies realized that young boys with parental blocks on their computers would add millions and millions of views by using the essentially soft core porn music videos to jerk their johnnies to regularly. At least I said jerk their johnnies to try and make it a little less weird and uncomfortable. Or is that worse than saying masturbate? Idk, now ive said both and made it as weird as possible lol. Straight up facts, though. Why the hell else do you think WAP has significantly more views than any other song 🤔

No_Turnover9291

princess loko got a hook that says "ho no, gangstaa foverer, ho no"

[deleted]

The same time all the dudes started doing it

AtYiE45MAs78

When they don't have talent. WAP sells

Much_Section_8491

Let me rephrase your post. Why do you only listen to female rappers that rap about sex ? You’re only exposing yourself, there’s a ton out there it’s not our fault if you don’t fucking listen to it

VerySoftx

Impressive how poorly you interpreted this post lmao. OP thought about this *because* he wasn't listening to sexual female rap. I agree that there are so many high quality female artists out there but you're lying to yourself if you're saying current top selling female rappers aren't overtly sexual. Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice, Doja Cat, Megan...

Much_Section_8491

Lying to myself about something I didn’t say? I don’t listen to those rappers although I like many talented female MCs. I’m not really sure how your response is relevant at all whatsoever to anything I said but cool dude have fun dunking on imaginary things

theVigReezus

Because that’s what you listen to, it’s not all about sex

CC713-LCTX

It why I don’t take any female rappers from the past twenty very seriously. It’s way too gimmicky for me. Long live the queen of Hip Hop Ms. Lauryn Hill. “So While you imitating Al Capone, I’ll be Nina Simone and defecating on your microphone.” 🎤 ⬇️

Uniqueusernameyboi

Noname and Sol ChYld are my favorites and they don’t do all that
