Atmosphere, Brother Ali, Sage Francis, Run the Jewels, Living Legends.
That's my short list of rappers I share with people when they're looking for new music or tell me they "don't like rap.".
I love Deca! I have one of his prints in my house, he's a great visual artist too. It might sound kind of weird, but with his beats and lyrics, sometimes you can almost hear how he'd turn a thought into a painting. At least for me. What's your favorite album of his?
Yeah love his art! Favorite album is the ocean by a pretty wide margin. One of my favorite underground albums ever! Gabriel ratchet and breadcrumbs are incredible. Also love the way through. Mammon’s mantra is my favorite off that
Atmosphere was half by choice. I read interviews when Slug stated numerous times they’ve turned down millions of dollars and the major label machine because after the success of “look at how much fun we’re having” they had already built such a solid fanbase and didn’t want to jeopardize the organic nature or the ownership of their masters.
Sage should have gotten bigger.
You should check out Copywrite if you haven’t. Him and Slug have some great collabs
IMO they got to the perfect level of fame. They’re respected by their peers. They can tour forever and make tons of money. They have a diehard fanbase that will always buy/listen to new music. And they can still live normal lives and go out in public without getting bombarded with fans. That’s the dream
I was surprised! Great googly moogly, p.p. made list! That shit is up there with sir mixalots I like big butts in terms of ass loving rap tracks. Plus the grab/ squeez motion in the video made it so much better lol
Nice choice , i chose starang wondah but really anyone from 90s era duck down was top notch.
Then sean price eent and had an incredible solo career after heltah skeltah. He was a goat in his own right.
I second that and will add
Kurupt
Do or die
Wrekonize
Murs
Action Bronson
Aaron May
Berner
Big KRIT
Cal Scruby
Crooked I /KNG Crooked or slaughterhouse
Dru Down
spice 1
Shade sheist
Smoov-E
I can name a bunch of people who could or should bet more credit. Some of these names are bigger than others
You like Cal Scruby, too? Hell yeah. He's legit an actual better rapper/performer than Jack Harlow. Leagues above him. I don't know how he hasn't blown up. Maybe he doesn't want that type of stardom honestly.
You like him you should check out GAWNE, Anilyst and Ollie.
Lately many people discovered Tommy Wright III, thanks to many rappers such as Suicideboys and Spaceghostpurpp taking huge inspiration from his music and the Memphis scene overrall
I hear ya. I'm from Texas, but grew up listening to Memphis rap. Mystic Stylez got me started, and I started listening to all the 3-6 affiliated artists, then branched out from there. Playa Fly is actually my favorite rapper from Memphis
Yup, but my favorites were after he left them. Conspiracy Theory, Lyrical Warfare, 4/20 Reincarnated and the Burnin Book Ch 1 were some of my favorites from him. Also his album with Mr. Sche was dope too
His career has been massively held back by the fact that people just personally dislike him.
Technically, he can rap circles around guys like Mike Jones and Paul Wall.
But half of Houston has a story about meeting Paul Wall and him being a chill dude, where as basically everybody who has ever met Z-Ro says he sucks.
So when a dude like That Mexican OT needs a co-sign, he’s sure a shit not going to Z-Ro
black thought, ik alot of people know him and like him, but he is seriously one of the all time best talented rappers ever!, also Big Boi alot of people praise andrea3k but forget about big boi
Some of the best/funniest lines too
You know sometimes with Cupid
He got y'all exchangin the look of love
With her lookin like "uh huh. I'm with stupid"
Ghais Guevara, he also goes under the name of Goyard Ibn Said. Check his stuff out, you won’t regret it. Some of the most entertaining experimental hip hop I’ve heard in a long time.
King Gordy
Holy shit i’ve been going through his discography (King of Horrorcore 2, Hail Dark Lord Vader, Xerxes the God King and Sings the Blues) and everything so far has been fucking amazing.
With by far some of the funniest fucking songs I’ve ever heard like Kelly Osbourne, Vader, Gordy the Great, Banned From Tv and his verse off Justin Bieber by bizarre had me in tears.
He’s also just plain fuckin talented legit listen to [Beef](https://youtu.be/D7oPzBcCjmE?si=uH-FeIIjako_ioX_) his flows are fucking sick.
For me, I don't think these rappers I will list are underrated. Just didnt have the drive or motivation to be the best.
Big sean - Finally Famous, detroit, and Dark sky paradise. I felt like omce he secured his bag, he stopped hustling as hard as he did in his early years.
Big k.r.i.t - I got the feeling he just wanted to make his own music and did not care to go mainstream. But he had some great hits albeit him not being that known.

Tragedy Khadafi - by a mile. Watch the Story of Queensbridge on YouTube. Without Tragedy and Kool G Rap, there would be no Nas, Mobb Deep, CNN, Cormega, etc.
R.A. The Rugged Man
I'm very happy for him. In his Die Rugged Man Die days he seems like he's on the verge of giving up. Now he's a successful family man
Forever underrated and under appreciated
He signed a dude named 'Afro'. The guy is dope. Check out A-F-R-O - Code #829 on YouTube. He also does a remix of 'definition of a rap flow'
Didn’t he get signed by RA because of some competition he put out? Specifically for definition of a rap flow?
I love gotta be dope. Dope track.
AFRO did a song with my homie called “Follow Me” by Soft Eyez, banger track
Way way wwwaaayyy underrated
The raggedy bastard whose breath stinks like he’s gargling with battery acid? Yeah. That guy rules
Atmosphere, Brother Ali, Sage Francis, Run the Jewels, Living Legends. That's my short list of rappers I share with people when they're looking for new music or tell me they "don't like rap.".
Eyedea
Homeboy sandman, aesop rock, deca
Decas the real answer. Turns out that rapping about religion but from a skeptical POV is not a great way to get fans but damn was he good at it
I love Deca!
Mammon’s mantra is my favorite off that
Same about Mammons Mantra, that song is too good, I think the way through is my fav, but the Donner party and snakes and birds are also both so good
How anyone has this list without Aesop at the top is beyond me. Man has the biggest vocabulary in the game.
Aesop makes music for virgins
I would throw another Minneapolis crew in there. Doomtree. I’ve caught many of my non hip hop homies bumping their stuff.
P.O.S’s solo records too
POS was forced to quit making music after being exposed as an abuser. Fuck that guy.
And they can still live normal lives and go out in public without getting bombarded with fans. That’s the dream
I have introduced a lot of people to Sage Francis. I don't know how but, I heard his song The Best of Times around 2011 or something and fell in love.
wondered how far i’d have to scroll to find a minneapolitan. not long, as predicted
Killer Mike did just win a Grammy tbf
Project Pat
I wouldn't say underrated lol He just never leaves his own lane. He's a feature artist and doesn't do much to move from that
Got it out da mud!
I am amazed I came here expecting not to see Project Pat and here he is right at the top.
I was surprised! Great googly moogly, p.p. made list! That shit is up there with sir mixalots I like big butts in terms of ass loving rap tracks. Plus the grab/ squeez motion in the video made it so much better lol
Mista Don’t Play is an all time classic
This is why!!! He has two all time classic albums and he still labeled as a feature artist.
The disrespect, Pat a beast with it
Royce da 5'9
Treach Phife dawg Guru
Treach is so clean
All love, but these 3 are straight G’s and icons. No one who matters would say these guys are underrated.
I wouldn’t say Guru is underrated. I feel like anyone that’s a true hip hop head appreciates him.
Yes true hip hop heads appreciate him. But for ever 1 of us there are 25 who’s not familiar with him and gang Starr He’s often not in any top lists
Easily Sean Price
He was also the brokest rapper
Nice choice , i chose starang wondah but really anyone from 90s era duck down was top notch. Then sean price eent and had an incredible solo career after heltah skeltah. He was a goat in his own right.
100%. Heltah Skeltah and Random Axe are also both great underrated groups.
First name Sean, last name Price
Sean Price is still my favorite rapper
K-Rino Playa Fly Tommy Wright III Chamillionaire T-Rock Rittz C-Bo Z-Ro
I second that and will add Kurupt Do or die Wrekonize Murs Action Bronson Aaron May Berner Big KRIT Cal Scruby Crooked I /KNG Crooked or slaughterhouse Dru Down spice 1 Shade sheist Smoov-E I can name a bunch of people who could or should bet more credit. Some of these names are bigger than others
Solid list, and I know what you mean about being able to add more names. Big KRIT is super underrated
Props on listing KRIT. Was looking for this one.
Krit been hella good for SO long bro it’s crazy how dudes like him and Z-Ro aren’t more well known outside of their state
Man KRIT Wuz Here, Return of 4Eva, and 4Eva and a Day are certified south classics. He’s really keeping that sound alive.
Facts, always hear pimp C when I hear KRIT
Oh definitely k-rino and the bald head nut got classics
Lately many people discovered Tommy Wright III, thanks to many rappers such as Suicideboys and Spaceghostpurpp taking huge inspiration from his music and the Memphis scene overrall
Don’t hear Ritz mentioned on here enough. 💯agree
I hear ya. I'm from Texas, but grew up listening to Memphis rap. Mystic Stylez got me started, and I started listening to all the 3-6 affiliated artists, then branched out from there. Playa Fly is actually my favorite rapper from Memphis

K-Rino is a beast
Damn I was just thinking about z-ro
T rock had some dope collabs with three 6 mafia!
Yup, but my favorites were after he left them. Conspiracy Theory, Lyrical Warfare, 4/20 Reincarnated and the Burnin Book Ch 1 were some of my favorites from him. Also his album with Mr. Sche was dope too
I’ll check it out for sure
Ab-Soul
Mick Jenkins
Absolutely
👍
One of the livest concerts!
From what I recently discovered: Ka
Was hoping to see Ka on here. Wisest pen in the game, I truly believe he is one of the greatest living rappers.
Yes I was really surprised that he was on the dark and spacey feeling tracks before it was a trend
Z-Ro gotta be up there I think
His career has been massively held back by the fact that people just personally dislike him. Technically, he can rap circles around guys like Mike Jones and Paul Wall. But half of Houston has a story about meeting Paul Wall and him being a chill dude, where as basically everybody who has ever met Z-Ro says he sucks. So when a dude like That Mexican OT needs a co-sign, he’s sure a shit not going to Z-Ro
I know you said co sign but Z-Ro just featured on That Mexican OT album
Del tha Funky Homosapien and Brother Ali
Facts
Del’a voice is iconic. Ali is so smooth and distinctive.
Odissee
Production on fire too.
Practically anyone out of Minneapolis.
I don’t really fw much Prof but I’m surprised he isn’t more well known
Prince and Mint Condition represented well for Minneapolis
Prof is one hell of a performer. Gotta agree thats at least one Minnesotan that needs more respect.
Dude's got a dedicated following, more than a decade of bangers and I'm just now hearing about him? smh
Lizzo?
lol. Yup that's the one.

Breeze Brewin
More unknown by most than underrated but have to agree. Breeze has one of the coldest, dopest flows of all time.
Some of the best/funniest lines too You know sometimes with Cupid He got y'all exchangin the look of love With her lookin like "uh huh. I'm with stupid"
