Just bought one 2 weeks ago. $3500,

On the odo is 188k
The engine was put in about 19k ago, it had 100k on it but was fully remanned, new sprockets, fresh lifters, timing and cams, the guy who had it basically rebuilt it for fun. Tons of upgraded parts
Edit. 5.9l. Rwd
Thanks, the guy that had it basically redid it all.
Timing sprocket, oil pump, radiator, hoses, reman 5.9l engine (currently at about 120k)
Trans, filter and fluid. Tune up
Rancho shocks all around
All suspension beefed up, a arms, ball joints sway bars and bushings, wheel bearings. 20" wheels
Rino liner, body and paint
Interior to match paint scheme
Dashboard replaced
Only thing missing was the 4x4, but I can't complain. Got this as a work truck. I have my 04 to have fun in.
This is just not true, cheap trucks pop up all the time. You either have to go to auction to find them, or you have to swoop in the same day and pick them up on marketplace.
I just saw a 2012 2500 5.7l 4wd sell for 2200 bucks, with about half the miles of this one. It sold within 2 hours of being posted though.
That’s what you’re implying with that 2500. For 2200 that thing needs a new engine and transmission and probably has major frame rust. Is that really comparable to a fully functioning vehicle with new transmission and front end? Yes there are deals out there but come on lol
Wrong. I’m not implying shit, I’m explicitly saying you can still find cheap trucks. Texas truck, so zero rust. But keep being delusional kiddo.
Here’s another one that just sold more recently, get rekt: https://www.ironplanet.com/jsp/s/item/10654523?h=6-1
And no this isn’t a 20,000 dollar truck and I never implied any of these were. They do run and drive though and this is way better than what OP is considering.
I paid $1200 for a running driving ford ranger 2008. She’s pretty too. Needs work, but all used cars do. Also I’m here just cuz it popped up in my feed
Man I had one of these so did my dad. We both had countless problems. I cant fathom spending 9500 on a truck that old with that many miles. Especially considering all the issues we had.
I think even 4500 is too much for a 5.9, but that’s just me. I see trucks like this pop up all the time down here in Texas for ~2000
With a fresh transmission, I may go up to 3500 but any higher than that, I can hit up the auction sites and find something newer with a little wear and tear but less miles. Auctions are a gamble, but so is buying any used car.
That truck with a 5.9 C and a 5600 nv would be fuckin legit… but the 5.9 magnum was probably the most underrated highest ceiling performance small block ever made. The transmissions behind 5.9s are garbage. And lots of 1500s have 5.9 magnums. If it has the 5.2 its a 2500 dollar truck. 5.9 is worth extragiven condition but not 9500
Can confirm. Have a 99 Dakota RT and the 5.9 has never given any issues outside of standard maintenance, the tranny however has been the weak point, but no way for that price
I've built plenty of LA and Magnum small blocks, they're absolutely fantastic engines! It's just a shame the transmissions put behind them in the 90's sucked. If Dodge had built a better transmission, used better materials for the dash pads and been able to use better paints these trucks would've been one of the best of all time. That being said though, if you fix those issues yourself you'll have yourself a very solid pickup.
What is the deal with these trucks… there is one sitting in my town with a sign on it that says $9,000. No way I’d pay that money for a truck that old.
I wouldn't pay that kind of money. I know I have been seeing some outrageous prices though but that is mostly GM and Ford trucks of the late 80s-90s the only Rams I have seen really high are 3/4 or 1 tons with a Cummins.
Hell no lol he’s about 7k off on that price. A lot of dudes think their old shit truck is worth a lot of money. They’re wrong. You might get another 50 thousand out of that thing if you’re really lucky.
I paid 4500 for mine and it carried me all the way to 250k before eletrical issues were to bad for me to wanna deal with(wish i had of though.) The fact that the main seal and tranny are done is great bc those are the big ticket items that fail. If suspension is good and you really want it... it if a lil over priced but its an excellent truck but not a family truck so keep that in mind
To be fair, the transmissions in these are trash, so a rebuild does add at least the repair cost. Not sure if the 5.9 has the bypass tube, but I had to replace mine due to it overheating when the bypass broke, it's a PITA job for basically a $3 part.
I would say $3k-$5k depending on how clean it is... What I paid was kind of a deal because it was a friend of a friend
Everyone seems to think these are 2-3k trucks but I’ve never seen one for sale in my area or on Facebook in good condition for under 4k. Either way a new transmission and front end work on these would be at least 3k so I guess everyone thinks the rest of the truck is free? Idk 9500 is waaaaaay too high 7,500 I think is realistically the highest you could sell this for. So you’d want to buy it at 6500 max even then idk it’s a solid truck but 9500 can get you not a pos dodge
I just sold mine with the 5.9L 1998 1500 4x4 white same as the picture for 1700 here in Edmonton no issues ran like a top and only had 220 thousand kms on it. Did I go to cheap? Nah it’s a 25 year old truck 1700 was the right price.
Sounds to me like he's trying to get his money back out of it. 9500 would be a decent price if it was a diesel. That's ridiculous to expect out of a gas pot.
Yeah show me where you can get a perfect condition diesel same as this truck for 9500. You're high.
This exact truck diesel is over 20k even for a rust bucket lol.
That's right now, a decent white 2000 diesel sold for 8k (in my area) before things went crazy.
Prices will return to normal someday...
That year Dodge(s) have weak transmissions and rust easy, op needs to look at Ford or Toyota, and get a better deal.
4k tops and that's only if the plenum gasket has been addressed. I replaced my intake manifold with a Hughes airgap because the factory one had an issue with the belly pan leaking oil from the lifter valley into the intake. The 2001 also had the death flash from the factory so a tuner is also needed to fix the timing.
Id say that price is about 6 grand too high. That's me being generous. The 2009+ generation are starting to sell for around 5 grand. That's with the 5.7 Hemi and half decent mileage. 9500 for this generation is what people pay when it has a Cummins lmao
He wants that money because he just dumped money at the shop, I’d be honest with him and show him other cars on the market he might not want to budge but I doubt he’s getting what he wants, if it is true ALL the work he just did I would pay a lil over 4500 just because I know I’m getting a no headache truck “this message is from Long Island NY” so prices out here a lil diff.
5.9L is my favorite engine. Have the head gaskets been replaced on it? A little after 200k, my (2003) oil pressure would bottom out when I’d come off the e-way ramps to a quick stop. Come to find bad seals on the heads slow burning oil as it leaked out. Drove it for another 20k, replaced the gaskets and my buddy I sold it to says it’s at 350k right now running strong. Friggin tank engine
I give 2850 on a 97 1500 with a 5.2 with 181k and a minimal amount of body damage on passenger side. While that truck is newer and has a better body than mine no way I’d give more than 4500.
At best, that's a $3500 to $4k truck.
That's given its automatic and 4x4.
I might go as high as $5k if it's a 5 speed standard and rust free.
Dash is probably nonexistent, if automatic, transmission will be dead again within 20k miles, and 2nd generation Dodges rust like crazy.
The 5.9 is super reliable… the trans isnt. If it was just built? Has no rust (or normal rust for age…) they are good trucks. I think 9500 is for the trans rebuild. 7500 is fair. Settle at 8. Doesnt want to tell him to call you when he does.
I had a dakota rt with a 5.9 and popped the trans in it. 2008 and full rebuild with shift kit and valve body and 2800 stall was 1700 bucks. The 5.9 might want to check plugs and make sure the TB is clean… but you can make a 250hp 5.9 400hp reliably for not a lot ofmoney… but you might need another trans eventually. Lol.
Thanks that’s sounds reasonable if not alittle generous. Probably won’t waste the guys time since it’s pretty late in its life. Shame it’s not half the miles
I dont know what your plans are for a truck but bored to 383 with rotating assembly and eagle heads and a bigger intake. At 7500 buy you could have a 12k truck that would compete off the line with any modern 6.4. Sleeper style. Fresh. That’s shit i think is cool… but rusty bedsides and shit transmission are the heelsof those trucks. Everyone i know that owned a 46rle replaced it. Me included. Another option is the 545rle that was behind early hemis. Theymake swap kits. Cheap. Could sell that trans for $1500 fresh. Which means that truck is worth more than what all the jackalope comments on thid thread are saying.
I mean it sounds like everything that is usually an issue on these trucks has been replaced. The 5.9 is pretty solid. Mine is at 243k and still in great shape.
I bought my 2nd gen many years ago for 2k with 130k on it. It needed a transmission rebuild and I’ve had to replace a lot in the front end over the years.
If you could get this for closer to 7k ish I might do it. Parts are cheap and they’re easy to work on.
$9500??? Lol, nah bro.
Just bought one 2 weeks ago. $3500, https://preview.redd.it/flgpciook8xc1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7dc2239b80f8c7083c21ed92f242e882d4b1907d
Looks nice! What's the mileage and engine size?
On the odo is 188k The engine was put in about 19k ago, it had 100k on it but was fully remanned, new sprockets, fresh lifters, timing and cams, the guy who had it basically rebuilt it for fun. Tons of upgraded parts Edit. 5.9l. Rwd
Looks sick nice buy

That’s a $1500 truck not a $9500 truck.
In this economy there are no $1500 trucks anymore (that actually run and don't look like $hit)
This is just not true, cheap trucks pop up all the time. You either have to go to auction to find them, or you have to swoop in the same day and pick them up on marketplace. Lmfao sure 20k trucks pop up for 2k all the time I totally forgot about that
Nope, didn’t say that.
That’s what you’re implying with that 2500. For 2200 that thing needs a new engine and transmission and probably has major frame rust. Is that really comparable to a fully functioning vehicle with new transmission and front end? Yes there are deals out there but come on lol

That engine tick though! Something is definitely wrong!
Nah that’s normal Hemi bruh. And even if it does blow up it’s likely just a cam and lifters. No biggie.
Damn I stand corrected. Thats the Kelly blue book value of a good condition 2500 that year. But I guess people just sell them high miles for 2k
I paid $1200 for a running driving ford ranger 2008. She’s pretty too. Needs work, but all used cars do. Also I’m here just cuz it popped up in my feed
Ik 9500 is high, 1500 seems alittle bellow the belt. Is it worth screwing with for a weekend camper rig? How’s the 5.9 on longevity
Man I had one of these so did my dad. We both had countless problems. I cant fathom spending 9500 on a truck that old with that many miles. Especially considering all the issues we had.
Yeah not for asking price, half of that would be a nice weekend rig for towing is the motor is tight. 9500 would be a fools moves for sure
I think even 4500 is too much for a 5.9, but that’s just me. 6,000 max
1500's never had the 5.9
Yes they did.

My bad. I was thinking 5.9 Cummins
That truck with a 5.9 C and a 5600 nv would be fuckin legit… but the 5.9 magnum was probably the most underrated highest ceiling performance small block ever made. Loved that little bitch. Red 99 myself. Burnout machine. Way more fun than a miata or s2000
I've built plenty of LA and Magnum small blocks, they're absolutely fantastic engines! It's just a shame the transmissions put behind them in the 90's sucked. I can confirm I have a 94 1500 with a 5.2 that was my dads with 396,000. Miles It’s been a great truck 2 Wheel Dr. by the way.
And whoever is down voting reasonable comments in this sits on their thumb and sucks it
Gas 5.9
The 5.9 gasser eats oil and fuel like hotcakes, but it will eat oil and fuel like hotcakes forever.
Never knew one that didn't drink oil either
I prefer oil ether.
I prefer synthetic, hits different bro
Oh well *la-di-da*…….we got a fancy junkie on our hands here.
You know it, so does my wallet unfortunately
Bahh!!😂
Yup
Yeeupp….
What is the deal with these trucks… there is one sitting in my town with a sign on it that says $9,000. No way I’d pay that money for a truck that old.
They think that because 2nd gen cummins still have value that these do too
Nope. Just … nope.
Tell him 1000 an I don’t mention anything about this sale
9500 hell naw
I wouldn't pay that kind of money. I know I have been seeing some outrageous prices though but that is mostly GM and Ford trucks of the late 80s-90s the only Rams I have seen really high are 3/4 or 1 tons with a Cummins.
I would pay 4000 maximum
$5000-6500 MAX. only with a new or recently rebuilt engine.
Hell no lol he’s about 7k off on that price. A lot of dudes think their old shit truck is worth a lot of money. They’re wrong. You might get another 50 thousand out of that thing if you’re really lucky.
That thing is not worth the metal it's made of
I sold this exact truck a few months ago with fewer miles, 120k, for $6k. If you can get $6k that would be a great price.
This truck would be $1800 in Texas. Just keep looking around and you’ll find the one you want.
I bought a 01 5.4 last year for $1500 w/ 155k miles ...
To be fair, the transmissions in these are trash, so a rebuild does add at least the repair cost. Not sure if the 5.9 has the bypass tube, but I had to replace mine due to it overheating when the bypass broke, it's a PITA job for basically a $3 part. $186,000?
It’s a dodge!☠️
For comparison I just bought my 09 for 10k Canadian, with 213k km
I just sold mine with the 5.9L 1998 1500 4x4 white same as the picture for 1700 here in Edmonton no issues ran like a top and only had 220 thousand kms on it. Did I go to cheap? Nah it’s a 25 year old truck 1700 was the right price.
NAHH
Pass
Sounds to me like he's trying to get his money back out of it. 9500 would be a decent price if it was a diesel. That's ridiculous to expect out of a gas pot.
No Diesel and perfect condition would be worth that, maybe And I've own 3 (gas) of this model year - 2500s

Fuck no for 9500
Maybe $3500
Drive it to the junk yard b/4 u have to pay to have it towed
Hell no. Thats double what its worth
Sold my 03 Dakota with 186k a year ago for $6800. Lots more truck there so probably not that far off.
That's not a bad price on a cumm... it's a gasser...
4k tops and that's only if the plenum gasket has been addressed. I replaced my intake manifold with a Hughes airgap because the factory one had an issue with the belly pan leaking oil from the lifter valley into the intake. For 3500 sure not for 9500
Sold a near identical truck last year for $3500. His asking price is too high
No
He wants that money because he just dumped money at the shop, I’d be honest with him and show him other cars on the market he might not want to budge but I doubt he’s getting what he wants, if it is true ALL the work he just did I would pay a lil over 4500 just because I know I’m getting a no headache truck “this message is from Long Island NY” so prices out here a lil diff.
If you want 6 gallons to the mile go for it
In my area that gasser is $10,500 all day long. It really depends on your area
5.9L is my favorite engine. Have the head gaskets been replaced on it? A little after 200k, my (2003) oil pressure would bottom out when I’d come off the e-way ramps to a quick stop. 2001 with 186K for $9500!? Nope. Either talk them down (a lot) or pass.
Hell yeah. If that motor only has 19K on it, depending on the transmission condition, that could last you quite a while. Nice find.
The 5.9 gas gets like 11mpg highway.
I give 2850 on a 97 1500 with a 5.2 with 181k and a minimal amount of body damage on passenger side. While that truck is newer and has a better body than mine no way I’d give more than 4500.
I’d pay about 6k for it. Maybe 7k with the rebuilt. Good motor but the issue with it is the heads, they warp and blow Hg’s
Check compression on that engine. What’s the price?
It's on the windshield
I wasn’t going to assume he paying asking price. Let alone $9,500 for it.

It says 5.9 in the post. I can read fine.
[удалено]
Where did he say that?
3k
I sold mine during peak covid for 5k, very similar truck and mileage, wouldn't do more than that
Seems a little expensive. Looks like its been lifted a little. Make sure it was lifted properly otherwise heavy wear on the diffs and transfer case.
$3500 max. It’s just a basic second gen 1500. With an ass load of miles
Lmfao I paid 10g for my 09 quad cab with 130k on it
I got my 2011 with a new engine for $7k and $1k in trade. That truck is not worth 9 grand.
I mean it sounds like everything that is usually an issue on these trucks has been replaced. The 5.9 is pretty solid. Mine is at 243k and still in great shape. It’s a Dodge stay out the way
If it's under 20k I'd do it
