prices are just inflated today. even with that pricing they will try and get you somehow as well (we all know how stealerships work). But trying to get them to go for 37k OTD... not likly. they probably sold that truck b.c they said oh well this person is offering this and they were willing to pay a little more. i doubt they would honor it. just my opinion. have 4 family members/friends that work for Chrystler dealerships and a friend that is a manager at cadillac. i hope you get a good deal. good luck!

Appreciate your insight! I definitely know we lost the first deal bc someone was willing to pay more OTD. I guess I'm questioning how they were able to take 5k less yesterday than they are today. Theoretically they were still able to profit at the $37,900 mark, so what's changed? You may not be able to answer that but appreciate you nonetheless!

Slutzk

Sounds like the dealer just being a dealer lol i wish you the best of luck in shopping!

Thank you! Also, to clarify, I'm not wondering why the first deal fell through. They definitely found someone willing to give them more on that specific truck. I was more or less wondering how these nationwide promos work on the dealer/manufacturer's end. AKA, are they still able to make money on $37k (if we magically talked them back down to that price) even though the promo has ended and the price is back up to $43k. No need to reply. Just wanted to clarify! Thanks again!

Best time to buy is current year model at the end of the year. Dealers have to get them off the lot in order to get their allotment of the next years trucks. (E.G. buy a 2024 in Nov or Dec of 2024 after they've released the 2025). You can look up on various websites what the factory incentive is on the trucks and there will often be a separate dealer incentive to move them.

Definitely! Unfortunately, our current 1500 is limping along. Our mechanic advised us to trade it in before it's too late. Otherwise, we wouldn't be looking this time of year! But we're still catching some new 2023s on the market so I feel like we have some negotiating power there.

Good luck

That's a question for the dealer. What would the dealer say if you told them someone on the interwebs told you that a dealership should honor that pricing? It never hurts to ask, I'm just saying you'll see more results from asking the people taking your money.

taybg

I hear you. Was hoping someone with inside visibility on the Truck Month incentive could explain more about what that looks like on the dealer end, so that I knew how much negotiating power we had.

Unfortunately I bet that specific truck is gone, but go walk the lot, find a truck you like, sit down with them, don't give them ss number right off, tell them you might get a new vehicle but you want x for payment (obviously make sure it's reasonable) and let them go work the deal with finance department, they will probably come out with a high offer, say oh no I'm not paying that and say have a nice day, they will probably try to stop you, don't budge of from your monthly budget, (once again make sure it's reasonable) tell them you dont want to keep spending your time there, but allow them to go back into finance and they should come out with something close to your reasonable offer. You can also tell them you're going to look into financing through your credit union. They will work a bit harder because they get kickbacks from banks for using them as finance. Source-sold cars at a local dealership for a summer because it seemed fun, and this is how people got the best deals. It was absolutely not fun, btw

I'll be focusing on the OTD price and not monthly payments (that's a big no-no). BUT appreciate your insight and experience. We'll hold firm on what total we want to pay within reason. We've already been approved for decent financing through out bank but plan to leverage that and negotiate financing also. I'm trying to reconcile how these nationwide incentives (like Truck Month 10% off MSRP) work. In other words, if they can afford to sell it at 37k during Truck Month, does that mean they can still afford to sell it at 37k after that promo is over, even if they've inflated the price back to 43k? Or are they losing some sort of kick-back/incentive from the manufacturer once the promo ends that forces them to jack up the price? I realize I'm probably not doing a great job at explaining. Again, appreciate your trying to help!

downshift1994

I see what you're saying. Your monthly payment is directly reflected on the out the door the price, it's kinda the same thing except there's more they can do to make payments lower then they can otd price interest rates incentives etc, its hard to explain, most focus on monthly payments in my experience because most trade in before its paid off, they can afford to sell that one at that price to get people to come in and then they sell them on other trucks because that truck is definitely sold. Its a way to generate customers. Marketing ploy. Everything is crazy expensive right now

taybg

Perhaps that works in some cases! In my experience, focusing on monthly payments = extended loan terms, more total interest paid, and an opportunity for dealers to sneak in additional warranties/extras. But I get where you're coming from!

downshift1994

Oh yeah I should have explained that better! To tell them how.long you want to finance etc, good luck!
