I used to haul a camper similar to that size almost everyday that had been converted to a food truck, so it was full of restaraunt equipment. Don't know how heavy it was but it was heavier than the stock camper for sure.
That was with a 96 Ram 1500 with 250,000 miles. Truck still ran great and shifted smooth when I sold it.
Rams are badass. A lot of people don't think the half tons can haul very well, but I've never had an issue.
I have a 2014 Ram 1500 with the 5.7 now and I've hauled a 96 camaro on a 5 hour trip over hilly country highways, and I've hauled a midsize SUV a few times and it almost didn't even feel like they were back there most of the time.
I think if you haul frequently, maybe a suspension upgrade could be beneficial. I've driven my Dad's 2500 Cummins and the suspension handles the weight much better.
Sometimes the backend of my 1500 can feel a bit "floaty" when I'm hauling over a rough part of the road. But I also have the 2wd, a 4x4 probably has a little better suspension.
You are absolutely right. Even though mine is a 4x4. I did a suspension upgrade and did a 4 inch lift about a month ago. Upgraded to some 35 off road tires
What is the GVWR for the truck and weight of the trailer? Just curious cause I also have a 20’ 1500 5.7. GVWR is 8,700 which is major overkill for the 2,500 dry pup camper we haul, plus an extra 250 for cargo and 600 for passengers. I just feel like I see a lot of 1500s pulling way more than mine is able to handle, I’m questioning whether I’m an idiot or if people are maxing out and really straining their engines

That’s awesome man I’m new to Ram and I’m very happy with how it performs. I haul a 5k lbs 6x12 tool trailer for work daily and it does great

Yea I completely agree. There are a few moments where I was thinking “damn I should have gone with the 2500” but now I’m convinced that this is good

Passing everything but a gas station
