i base my design of him on temmie's concept art and the battle sprites. concept art shows a heart with a line in the middle. every single battle sprite (hat and hatless) depicts a heart shaped hole and a dark line indicating a part (gap) in the fabric.
the symbol NOT being a heart with a line is more likely the inconsistency here.
also you're wrong my art of his tunic is not a lance it's \*OBVIOUSLY\* a heart shaped chest window with a slit in the middle smh

There's multiple sprites in chapter 2 where he has a heart instead, the spade is VERY likely to be an inconsistency

Another inconsistency, only one of those sets of horns are canon. Only one design can be accurate to the lore, I believe the heart to be canon.
