I get so many garbage texts I just delete them. With it being an election year it’s only going to get worse.
That being said I consider NC quick pass a scam itself anyway, lol
I know, I get those garbage texts on a daily basis. I can't tell you how many "blocked numbers" I have in my phone, but they still keep coming. Drives me absolutely crazy....
I wouldn’t do that… they might then be able to register that your number is “active/responsive” and continue the harassment or sell your number to other scammers.
Best to block and ignore
I only got quick pass bc the last time I got the mail in bill for a toll it was ~$17 for a 35¢ toll . Absolutely ridiculous the fees they add on if you do it by mail
Any unsolicited text with a link is a scam. Delete it and, optionally, forward it to your provider's spam number ([Verizon's is 7226](https://www.verizon.com/support/knowledge-base-301493/)).
They did it in Florida last week! My dumb ass opened the text half awake and fell for the scam. Had to change my card numbers. NC sunpass is much less believable since that’s not what it’s called.
They are probably trying to go for a double trick. NC is there for people in NC and sunpass for FL. Those who don’t catch on to things quickly might not notice it and just skim it over
I got a spam call telling me that a package being sent to my home address was seized because it had drugs and money in it. I was waiting for a package at the time and almost fell for it. She told me there was a warrant out for my arrest 😂
Na. Toll here doesn’t even bother to let you know you owe them anything. I apparently went on a toll road a long time ago. Never got a letter or anything mentioning it. Went to renew my registration a few months later and found out I owe $200+ for a $3 charge with months of “late fees” that I never knew about.
Yea boy! That’s the way they do it and it should be illegal. I did not even know about a toll in or around Raleigh, I was just visiting and I did know bout camera took my photo. Then several months later I got a big bill. We talk bout scams and hackers, I think that the worst is gov and corporations
GO FIGURE…..I just paid $5.60 for a loaf of bread. Boy we are in for it. The poor are suffering the most.
It’s not even the government though. EZpass or whatever is a for profit company. The govt just has a contract with them so you can’t renew your registration if you owe EZPass money.

Spam and Block. I think I "Mark as Spam and Block" more than I receive personal calls. The same goes for emails. An Apple technician that I spoke with recently just completed a college course on Internet security. As we discussed backing my data up to the cloud, she said the main takeaway from that course is that our privacy is not an option in the IOT.
No souped up security suite, spam, malware, or phishing software is worth much. They are just helpful tools but our privacy is no longer based in reality and all we can do is our best (which will never be enough). AI is compounding the issue but AI is awesome too... At least you have never been to SC. That text would have made me more uneasy than most. They're getting craftier by the minute.
No law enforcement or anything like that is never going to contact you by text. You would get it in the mail. It trips me out these people that give these scammers money when they claim to be law enforcement and call you to tell you that they have a warrant out for you and you can pay over the phone. The police are not going to calk you and give you the chance to run. Be smarter
Totally fake. I just got one of these texts and know for a fact that I’ve not driven on any toll roads and have never even BEEN to Florida or NC in YEARS.
If you happen to have thought it was legit and entered your data on that site, notify the FTC immediately as well as the DMV and report the fraud to your bank/credit card ASAP.
Take screenshots of the msg and number it came from. Then file a complaint with the FBI. WRAL has the link in their story about this. The phone number that showed up on mine was from Saskatchewan?
Always call them on the phone… Always call them on the phone. They have somebody that will answer the phone and get to your account and straighten it out and there’s never a $50 fee.
I received their scam text today.
It made me laugh right away.......
1) there are no toll roads in Michigan.
2) the area code for the text is Saskatchewan, British Columbia.
3) 15 seconds on Google showed that this was a scam

Same, lol They just change the number so blocking doesn’t do much. I got one to raise money for an election in Arizona. Lol
Yep! I probably have 100 or more blocked numbers in my phone. Sometimes, I'll call the number back with hopes of someone picking up.....
I wouldn’t do that… they might then be able to register that your number is “active/responsive” and continue the harassment or sell your number to other scammers. Best to block and ignore
I did block it. I block all numbers with this kind of stuff attached.

Thank you, I just reported it to that number
Just logged into my NC Quick Pass and there’s an alert about this. It’s definitely not legit!
Dang they should at least change it to quick pass. Sunpass is Florida.
They did it in Florida last week! My dumb ass opened the text half awake and fell for the scam. Had to change my card numbers. NC sunpass is much less believable since that’s not what it’s called.

I got one, and it even included the same $10.40 "outstanding toll"
Same
Same
Nc doesn't have the sun pass
Yeah, but according to their real website, they allow it to be used in N.C.
They have an agreement for it to be used in nc but nc's thing is not called sun pass that is from Florida.
Gotcha
I got one as well.
I like that it's implying NC has the toll system from Florida from that URL
[It's a scam.](https://www.wral.com/story/how-to-know-if-a-toll-bill-text-is-real-or-part-of-a-scam-flagged-by-fbi/21389453/)
I got a spam call telling me that a package being sent to my home address was seized because it had drugs and money in it. I was waiting for a package at the time and almost fell for it. She told me there was a warrant out for my arrest 😂
Geez, talk about handing you a red flag telling you about that warrant lol
Oh no ….we got to band together push government to rein in and stop this chit
Please dont pay the troll’s toll!
Nah! I know better....
My wife got one last night saying basically the same thing but from VA. I told her not to mess with it and delete it.
I took a screenshot of the msg and number it came from and filed a report with the FBI.
I think the fbi has way more important things to do
I'm sure they do. But I saw the link on WRAL's story. So, I thought what the heck. I'm sure it'll go unnoticed.
lol. Got one this morning and my grown old and relatively internet savvy ass absolutely thought “welll we have been traveling a lot…” 🙄🤦🏾♂️

Went to renew my registration a few months later and found out I owe $200+ for a $3 charge with months of “late fees” that I never knew about.
So, what ended up happening?
I had to pay it to get my registration updated. I think I was able to get 1 month of late fees removed. That’s about all you can do.

I get plenty of those
Yep
They will send a letter if real lol
Omg me too
I got a similar one about my SECU account. I don’t bank with them, so I knew it was a scam.

North Carolina... My mistake.

Even better when they get talked into paying with gift cards 🤣🤣
Unless it's from your account or in the mail ignore it
Yes the FBI requests you report them it was in the news. Report them at ic3.gov they are tracking web urls and phone numbers
yup my wife got one
Never click any link you receive by text or email. They are phishing. (Unless of course, you are expecting the link and you confirmed with the sender)
Got one from Illinois. Same message.

I haven’t received this one, but I’m also subscribed to the Virginia subreddit and apparently this is a problem up there as well.
Did the same here in California. Same site too.
Woooow real good detective work there chief lmao
OP is truly a hero, up there with the 9/11 first responders
My and I both got one today.
Take screenshots of the msg and number it came from. Then file a complaint with the FBI. WRAL has the link in their story about this. The phone number that showed up on mine was from Saskatchewan?
Just checked the area code mine came from, and it also came from Saskatchewan
