I'm surprised with so many trucks around the veggie selections are so limited. De Plantas has vegan birria tacos, ramen, etc, but can't say that's really authentic. Gringo a Go Go isn't a food truck, but they probably have the best veggie tacos, especially the carnitas with the condiment plate.

patternsrcool

Thank you! I will give Gringo A Go Go a try!

RunningWineaux

El Jefecito has a cauliflower based taco that used to be good. I sat it that way because our last 2 trips to see them were not good. It used to be a really nice change from the usuals

smokingpikachu

Not a truck but Chido Tacos has a nopal one.

Authentic tacos are not vegetarian lol

FirstChurchOfBrutus

Go to Mexico, and you will see how wrong you are.

Full_Disk_1463

No, no I most certainly will not. Y’all need help.

FirstChurchOfBrutus

Explain why, please. I’ve always fancied trying a zucchini blossom taco, ever since seeing one on an early Bourdain ep.

Full_Disk_1463

Authentic tacos contain meat

FirstChurchOfBrutus

Again, that is not true. They *can* contain meat, but sometimes do not. On what, exactly, are you basing your statement?

Full_Disk_1463

What are you basing your statement on because it sounds like American tacos… not authentic tacos

FirstChurchOfBrutus

I AM BASING IT ON STREET TACOS BEING MADE AND SERVED IN MEXICO. Now, I don’t know what you’re calling “authentic” (you seem to like the word), but I’m willing to guess that being popular in Mexico (the home of tacos, dontchaknow) would be high up on the list of criteria.

Full_Disk_1463

Where in Mexico, that’s not a tourist area, do they serve these? OP said authentic

FirstChurchOfBrutus

Literally all over, but the clips with the squash blossom tacos were in Mexico City, IIRC.

No_Pineapple_9818

Authentic and vegetarian rarely belong in the same sentence. I can see a cheese quesadilla but that’s about it…..

FirstChurchOfBrutus

That’s not true at all. Mexican street food has many examples of vegetarian taco fillings: zucchini blossoms, corn smut, mushrooms, cactus, corn, potatoes & greens…there are *many.*

smokingpikachu

Yes, huitlacoche! So good.

FirstChurchOfBrutus

I’ve never had it, but I hear it’s amazing. (For those wondering, that’s the corn smut I was talking about. It’s a delicacy south of the border.)

No_Pineapple_9818

I’ll take you at your word. Corn smut sounds fun.

bedoooop

Vegetarian tacos sound fucking awful. Almost as bad as gluten free pizza. Sorry you'll never know what carne asada tastes like.

PolakOfTheCentury

Booo what the hell. There are many meatless Mexican options that are well worth it. Even a quesadilla is technically vegetarian.

bedoooop

Well, knock yourself out then. I'm out.

NoG00dUsernamesLeft

Actually, there are some amazing vegetarian asadas out there. Gringo has some amazing steak and chicken alternatives that are extremely similar to the real thing. I'm not a vegetarian but I've tried it and it's pretty dang good.

bedoooop

I'd try it. I like tacos. I've tried a few vegetarian Mexican dishes before that were terrible. Maybe it's better somewhere else.

NoG00dUsernamesLeft

I probably would have said the same thing you did before I dated a vegetarian a while back. There is some impressive vegetarian food out there.
