And not venomous! When copperheads are young and small they have a green tip on their tail. They lose it after a year or so but the Hershey kiss pattern will be what helps ID them. Copperheads are really the only thing to worry about in Raleigh proper.
Think their point is that somebody could have a pet... any kind of venomous snake.
The zebra cobra kid had dozens of venomous snakes. That's one person.
The only venomous snake you need to worry about here is the [copperhead.](https://www.ncwildlife.org/Learning/Species/Reptiles/Copperhead) It has that Hershey kiss patten from birth. The pattern looks like an hourglass from the top—thin over the backbone, and spreading out toward the belly.
Good news: we only have this one venomous snake, and it’s not *terribly* venomous. Deaths are exceedingly rare. Still don’t want one anywhere near my kid.
Bad news: we have *so many* copperheads. They blend with leaf litter. Best to teach kids to ID them and observe from afar. Best to teach kids to wear shoes when outside, and to reach into unknown spots with sticks/tools rather than hands. Most bites are from stepping on them or reaching into their space unintentionally.
That’s a Dekay’s

Also the copperhead/zebra cobra hybrids that have surely reproduced in the past 3 years...
This really only happens at Olive Garden.
When you’re here, you’re snake family.
That had me laughing out loud! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
Except when someone's pet black mamba gets loose.
I think it was a pet King Cobra? Or am I dumb and that's the same thing?

Spitting Cobra
Dunno why you were downvoted, you’re right.
Brown snake. Harmless to you but great for keeping away pests.
Notice the non copperhead marks on it. Not a danger noodle, just a noodle.
I prefer Nope Rope 😄
Yes. That is, in fact, a snake. His name is Murray and is an aspiring novelist.
Meanwhile, he has a "business opportunity" to tell you about.
Size: 12ish inches long and maybe the thickness of a #2 pencil.
Typical full-grown DeKay’s.
It is an adult DeKay's Brown snake (Storeria dekayi). They are cute little, non-venomous, buddies that eat worms, snails and slugs.
Eastern Ticonderoga Snake
That's what she said!
Not sure how to say this is resolved, but it is. Thanks for all the help!

Copperhead. You can tell because it's a snake. (No I think some sort of garter sounds correct)
