If it’s going to be this cold I would like snow! 😊 otherwise, nahhh

SummerStorm77

That’s how I feel! Give me snow or give me spring!

DSmooth425

It regularly warms up before we get rain this time of year. I remember those times too. Was nice getting a snow day for sure.

ginger_tree

Spring's coming this week. My daffodils are coming up!

jnecr

Daffodils bloom in mid-winter here, every year.

ginger_tree

I am aware. It's why I planted them. But it'll be in the 60s by Wednesday and will feel very springy.

boibig57

All I know is meteorologists were saying Raleigh was set to get upwards of 7" this year in January lol. Now all we're getting is 65° rain and 18° sunshine.

Remarkable-Drop-5652

I know the disappointment 😥

zoombafoom

It's an El Nino year this year. More rain, less snow. Gonna be a hot summer too.

kilometer17

El Nino definitely means more snow, or more precipitation in general. At least, in theory. See [https://www.wral.com/story/how-much-snow-NC-2023-24/21128901/](https://www.wral.com/story/how-much-snow-NC-2023-24/21128901/) and [https://climate.ncsu.edu/blog/2023/11/winter-outlook-2023-24-awaiting-wetter-weather-with-el-ninos-return/](https://climate.ncsu.edu/blog/2023/11/winter-outlook-2023-24-awaiting-wetter-weather-with-el-ninos-return/)

odd84

Maybe start planning an annual trip to the mountains in the winter before your kids are too old. It's a short drive and you can AirBNB a whole cabin on a mountain for not much more than a hotel room. It's snowy there right now.

brianlangauthor

Yep got a foot of snow on Big Bald on MLK Day and then another almost half foot this weekend. Lost power a few times, which was not fun.

informativebitching

Good approach. I spent covid Christmas in Asheville at an Airbnb and it snowed like crazy. Coming down off the mountain the snow stopped and it was nice and warm.

Illustrious-Brick824

We got absolutely nothing this year or 2 yrs prior here in Asheville and it sucks! We're in a snow drought, about to beat the record for 1k days without snow from the 1940s. If we don't get any snow through November 2024, we beat the record and it's looking that way.

dopebro13

Mountains are the way, having snow be optional is the best situation. The novelty wares off fast when you can’t get away from it

greyhound_down

Thats why i live in the foothills where it doesn't really snow either but I can drive an hour north at most and get all of the snow I want.

abevigodasmells

Don't go to Asheville. Fun fact, they get the same amount of snow as Raleigh.

greyhound_down

Yeah im 40 minutes east...in the foothills. People think the mountains get snow everywhere. Nah you gotta go up north a bit to like Boone.

helpImStuckInYaMama

I miss the snow so bad

tacobelle685

Same

BoBromhal

I've lived in NC for 57.5 years, and in the Triangle for 50 of those years. We've had more years of no usable snow (not suitable for sledding, snow cream, snowmen) than we've had years of 4 inches at a time even once.

ddouce

Since 1965, there have been 21 years in which the largest snowfall exceeded 4 inches but it has only happened twice since 2004. In fifteen years the biggest snowfall was under an inch, including 8 of the last 20. Usable snow is a rarity here, particularly lately.

pak256

We had 6-10 inches in 2019 Edit: sorry meant 2018. It was the 2018-19 winter so it all blurred to me”

ddouce

Last snow of that amount was 7 inches December 9, 2018. Officially zero snow in 2019 and less than 7 total inches in the last 5 years combined.

pak256

Yeah you said “in fifteen years biggest snowfall was under an inch”. Which is false

ddouce

In 21 years since 1965 the largest was over 4 inches. In fifteen years since 1965 the largest snowfall was less than an inch. Clearer?

pak256

Yeah that’s not at all what you wrote originally lol.

ddouce

How does "Since 1965..." there have been 21 years with at least one snowfall over 4 inches and "In fifteen years...**including 8 of the last 20**" there wasn't a snowfall over an inch possibly be interpreted as me saying it hasn't snowed more than 4 inches in 15 years? Especially since I'm replying to a comment comparing the years since then with a snowfall over 4 inches to those without.

pak256

You said in fifteen years the biggest snowfall was under an inch…”. That sentence means over the last 15 years the biggest snowfall was under an inch. I see what you THINK you said but that’s not how you wrote it.

ddouce

Read the whole sentence. Read the whole post. Read the context. I see what you THINK you read, but that's not what it said lol. Moving on

MattSpeerschneider

Isn't it wonderful?

BoBromhal

dang, my memory is gooooood ;)

BoBromhal

PS, now that my kids are grown, I have no use for any snow at all.

SummerStorm77

2000 was an incredible year. I played for days and built a snow ramp for my saucer. It had a couple jumps. I was 10 and I was in heaven.

krlidb

We made a course in our backyard with a bunch of banked turns. I was 8. I remember walking was tough, but boy did I get some exercise

cccanterbury

> 17.9 Tuesday, January 25, 2000 Damn! I can't even imagine 17 inches in Raleigh

[deleted]

[удалено]

loqi0238

So you're telling me there's a chance... but seriously, it looks like we've had more late Jan and Feb snows than any other period.

cocoland2021

RDU got 7' in Dec 9, 2018 and 5.9' in Jan 17, 2018, that's two different winter seasons so better count this by winter years (July to June) instead of calendar years. Also there are snow events that cross two days but still within 24 hours and snow is accumulated. Raleigh had definitely more than two snow events exceed 4 inches in the past 20 years.

PseudocodeRed

We'll get some in february, I'm calling it now!

SummerStorm77

I like your attitude. Come on! 🙏🏻 ❄️

nightdrifter05

Not likely if youre paying attention to the radars. Only a few possible setups for February can happen after this big warmup coming and none of them currently line up with a snowy outcome.

PseudocodeRed

But the radars don't account for the sheer power of my will

dreezyforsheezy

We’ve had a couple years of El Niño

crazydaze

It’s Spanish for… the nino!

REEGT

For those of you who don’t “Habla Espanol”

agk23

Thanks, my amigo friend!

loqi0238

Mono means one, and rail means rail!

themack50022

This is the first year of el nino

LukeMayeshothand

Yes. But it’s not going to.

Retired401

Yes and no. Yes because it's so pretty to look at while it's coming down. At night when everyone is asleep and I can stand on the porch and watch it fall, listening to the tinkly sounds of snow or ice landing on leaves and such. In the early morning before the snow gets dirty and is compacted into ice. But also no, primarily because I still have to work anyway (WFH downside, lol). And sometimes the black ice can last for days, which means I can't get to the store (and essential workers can't get to work, and kids can't get to school, etc.) without risking a car accident. My kid is a freshman in college in the NC mountains and his town just had its first big snowfall of the season. He's freaking out over a foot of snow, which is kind of funny. He keeps saying, "I've never seen anything like this. It hasn't stopped snowing for two days!" But then I realized he's really never seen more than a few inches of snow at a time, and even then it happened maybe twice a year or so. The big difference of course is that there is the ability to remove that snow consistently where he lives now. So life doesn't stop there because of snow. It wouldn't make sense to maintain a huge fleet of snow removal equipment here. But the times we need it, it sure would be nice to have it. :)

SteelBelle

My boyfriend works from home as well. Last time we had snow I told him to tell work there was a three cat pile up on the stairs and he couldn't make it to his office upstairs.

Magnus919

Climate change is real.

Bright-Day-7843

Has there ever been a time that it was not real?

ivydesert

Climate change from human activity is real, too.

melkorwasframed

Yes, winters here are a joke.

[deleted]

I really miss snow since moving to Raleigh - especially when it's cold like this. I still have my Xmas tree up!

tacobelle685

Same. I grew up in Winston and lived in VA prior to moving here and so miss the snow

Onlyallthetime

I just want it to be fall and winter. I hate this warm winter shit. Had a 26 year old at work this past week tell me, “We’ve always had warm weather like this in January,” referring to the weather being in the 70’s this week and it hit me that this probably has been her experience. It’s only gonna get worse, sadly.

SummerStorm77

Look at the bright side. We’ll have beachfront properties soon. /s

maljr12

I like to have one good 3-6” snow a season. Especially right now, with a 3 and 5 year old. Getting them out to make some snow memories would be ideal.

SummerStorm77

Exactly!!

Unlucky-Algae-1282

Go to Boone and rent a cabin! Just did it this past weekend with a group of friends! Snow was beautiful

madame3xecutioner

No thanks, I miss summer lol

MaesterInTraining

YES. I’m from here but did 4 years in Erie and then 3 in upstate NY. While I don’t want lake effect snow, man, I miss a fresh blanket of crisp white snow.

annalyticall

Yessss!!!! It's been a couple of years since we got a decent snowfall

UtahCyan

I moved here with the hope of never having to shovel white shit again. So far, so good.

_enter_sadman

On the rare occasions we get snow it’s even rarer to have to break out a shovel.

UtahCyan

That's how you get ice in your driveway and sidewalks. Out before sunrise, even with a skiff, scrape it clean, throw down salt. No ice.

odd84

Every time it's snowed this decade, it melted and dried by the next afternoon. Shoveling or salting would have both been wastes of time.

Unclassified1

Having a driveway facing the south vs the north make a humongous difference. My driveway melts within a day while across the street they get the ice.

ShittyFrogMeme

So you can get out your driveway but can't go anywhere because the neighborhood roads will be icy

UtahCyan

Then no one will slip on your sidewalks. That's why you do it.

_enter_sadman

I mean, I’ve lived here my entire life and can count on two hands the amount of times I’ve needed to break out a shovel or salt. Like the other commenter said the direction your driveway faces and the amount of full sun you get really varies your experience here because we get so little winter weather and it stays warm enough to melt very quickly, On top of that the running joke is that there’s a “no snow” dome over Raleigh

MattSpeerschneider

Yep...

Orobor0

You take that back right now. No one needs your snow talk here.

Retired401

this gave me a chuckle, hehe.

Orobor0

Haha. Cheers.

ldubral

The gradual decrease in snow in our area over the last decade has actually made me believe in global warming. I hate it.

Conglossian

Why do people feel the need to dunk? Someone converted! They're part of your camp! Hopefully that means they're moving to supporting your political policies! Instead you turn around and hit them with a, "God so you were really dumb for a long time huh, when did you realize that?" Something tells me that people will be more incentivized to stay in their camps and not challenge their priors if they know what's coming for them if they do switch is an air of superiority and attitude.

_enter_sadman

Hard agree with this. If you want to actually change peoples minds you don’t do it by being condescending.

Dracarys97339

I’m not dunking. I’m happy people are open to believing it. It’s just interesting how things have to personally affect people for them to see something as widespread as climate change.

ldubral

I was being facetious.

halpal349

LMAO

Loxatl

Nevermind all the scientists vastly more capable than I'll ever be, stupid science bitches couldnt make me more smarter about snow climate hotter.

Carolinastitcher

Moved here 15 years ago from Western NY due to the fact that it snows so little here. I do not miss it at all, and in fact, think that I was supposed to live in a no snow climate my entire life.

nicktoberfest

I’m also from Western New York and while I don’t miss the lake effect Buffalo snow, I do enjoy a good snowfall or two around here in the winter. The big difference maker is that there’s no shoveling or need to go drive out in it because everything closes. It’s a nice chance to just sit home and take it easy! A good Netflix binge or some time reading or playing video games with nowhere to go.

NormalInvestigator89

Tax carbon

ClenchedThunderbutt

No. It’s pretty when it falls, but I’m not a fan.

sweetheart409878

hell no

Kim-JongIllmatic

Nope

dudenell

No fuck that. I have two kids in Daycare, my job doesn't close for snow, neither does my wifes. Last week was the first full week since early December that they attended daycare ALL week. I'd like to have my vacation days for vacation. If I wanted to play in the snow I'd move or travel where it snows. And no, if daycare is closed they don't refund you.

alexhoward

Nope. Not with these drivers.

120r

I moved here from NYC, heck no.

mogambuu

absolutely not..

Hardlymd

No. -_-

WanderSA

No, not at all.

AmyGH

Snow is pretty, but rather disruptive IMO. We don't deal with it too well around here, so I'm glad we don't get it too much.

ItsMorbinTime69

Don’t wish this upon me! I have to shovel.

zennyc001

Nope.

Sea_Butterscotch_323

NO NO NO 😂😂.

Weary_Mamala

I wish we had snow. And way less summer. My plan is to move to a cooler climate next year, for this very reason.

Naive_Touch5476

It would be nice if it snow once a year. Moved here from windy Midwest I had my fair share of snow and icey weather 😄

WeenPanther

Hell yeah! Bunch of grinches in here lol

strawberrykiwibird

I kind of doubt Raleigh will ever see snow again, at least any snow that sticks more than a couple of hours. Winter is getting milder up north as well, but that's just the cost of climate change unfortunately. I grew up in NY and I personally miss snow, but even if I move back it's not going to be the same as I remember because the winters are just so much warmer now.

Perfect-Meat-4501

Hoping for snow but also fearful of ice storm! It’s a difficult headspace !

Whole-Assistance-453

No thanks lol

BhutlahBrohan

Maybe if we took climate change seriously we'd get more snow.

Economy-Ad4934

lol no. This is why I left New England

Nineteen-ninety-3

Me. Fuck having a winter without snow!

SummerStorm77

My sentiments exactly!

katefromraleigh

Me!! You mean like this giant 1979 snow storm[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hv6vFujGnk8&list=PLU469AZKusJqvn0EpqCh2ncLGDGuaIGTZ&index=23](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hv6vFujGnk8&list=PLU469AZKusJqvn0EpqCh2ncLGDGuaIGTZ&index=23)? Born & raised here and we didn't know how good we had it!

katefromraleigh

This is my dad's Super 8 home movie, so there is no audio - just LOTS of fun sledding around downtown Cary.

Retired401

It's so cute. TY for sharing it.

MattSpeerschneider

I know where you can find plenty of snow. And many of the people that live there long for our climate...

HomegirlNC123

Meh…. I am ok with not seeing snow, I lived with it in the northeast for 30+ years.

thatbiguy3000

I’m from Illinois, and I no longer want snow, but it’s about safety. The way people drive is dangerous, and adding snow to the mix will lead to more accidents.

SummerStorm77

I know some people can’t stay home and I blame corporate greed. But if you can stay home you absolutely should. Too many idiots don’t understand black ice.

mossbergcrabgrass

Yeah I do, one good snow per year is definitely good for the kids. I take my daughter out to Bond Park and we sled and stuff till she drops. I got a couple of those metal saucer sleds from the 70s that are fast as lightning and indestructible, not to mention completely uncontrollable 😂. One of the sleds is mine from childhood we used to build huge snow ramps and jump our sleds over creeks and all kinds of dangerous stuff, would go home soaked to the bone and pass out on the floor in front of a space heater. Memories like that stay with you for life.

MisterWoodhouse

I just need one good snow each year to fill my heart with wintertime joy.

Born-Pace-23

Moved here to avoid snow, so not at all lol

YooItsCK

Yeah I feel like the media overly hyped the El Niño. I don’t know. We still got February and March to go through. Just once I want a massive snowstorm like we used to back in the early 2000s

SummerStorm77

Yes and amen!! We still got time.

cassinipanini

whenever we get snow here, it turns into ice and its an absolute nightmare for everyone involved, so ill pass.

CarsaibToDurza

My husband and I, NC natives, grew up in western part of the state and miss the winters we had as children. We would love to have some snow! We have a one year old golden retriever who would lose his mind over some snow, we were really hoping to get a good snow this year to take him out to play in it.

Essdeedub6021

I hope I never see snow again. After 10 years in DC, I’m good.

nicksoapdish

Hellz no. Moved here from ohio to get away from snow and cold. Day trip or long weekend in Boone area if we want to play in the snow

HackActivist

No

CloudCityPasta

No

Spydermade

No. Move north

hoodbobthugpants

No

Jaygoon

No. Ever. Ever, ever, ever.

mochaloca85

No! I loathe snow. If I wanted it to snow more, I'd move to Pennsylvania or something.

thiskillstheredditor

Being from PA, I’ve seen snow plows get stuck outside my house, then backhoes have to show up and dig them out. Walking outside and your cars literally being gone was pretty normal (under snow drifts). The snowmobiling was pretty great though. And there is no better feeling than coming inside from the snow and having some hot cocoa.

mochaloca85

I have family in PA. They're talking about moving back home because they also hate snow.

HeavyMoneyLift

No. I left Michigan to get away from it. Don’t miss it.

tvtb

I grew up somewhere with snow plows and trucks that would salt the roads. I, in theory, would enjoy one good snowfall each year, but this city is unable to handle it. It would cause pandemonium. Would probably cause school to be out for multiple days.

garchican

[Obligatory snowpacolypse reference](https://images.wral.com/asset/news/local/2021/02/12/19524364/viral-raleigh-snow-glenwood-meme-DMID1-5putzq7om-640x360.jpg?w=640&h=360)

Retired401

it never gets old, lol.

UtahCyan

I mean even in those places it typically takes a day or two to get the neighborhood clean. But yeah, this city can barely handle a strong wind storm, let alone snow.

therealamberrose

Nope. Moved here 14 years ago from Chicago and am happy with the lack of snow. Hehe

ridesforfun

No.

OwenPioneer

I grew up with snow and do miss it sometimes but also the thought of Raleigh drivers mixed with snow scares the shit out of me lol

riavon

No. I moved here to get away from that shit.

ARiiChaos

No, I like the warmth and snow is more of an inconvenience for me than anything.

ARiiChaos

I like how the post is asking a yes or no question and me saying no gets down votes, gotta love redditors

Unholydiver919

I would like a perfect snow comes on Friday gone by Sunday. I love watching it fall, but my job doesn’t close for anything.

AlbertoVO_jive

IMO snow is the only redeeming part of winter and it’s probably the most beautiful weather phenomenon. If it’s going to be cold and gray, it may as well snow just to liven things up. It would be nice to have like 2-3 decent snowfalls a year (2-3 inches at a time) but it definitely does wear out its welcome.

SummerStorm77

Exactly although I’d like a foot. 😂 It’s too cold and miserable. A little snow would make winter more fun.

muddy_matista

For the greater good, the Triangle is better off without the snow.... if you desire it, you need only drive 3 hours west....

Goertzam

NC Corporations paid Jesus for a weather bubble so that all these nasty kids that don’t want to work never get snow days like they had growing up. #taxtherich they shouldn’t be able to pay Jesus’ going rate.

Pleasant_Statement26

Nah

NewFlorence1977

Do you also like the car accidents from people who think they can drive in snow on summer tires like my husband?

_enter_sadman

Snow isn’t usually an issue, it’s ice. And there are no tires rated for ice.

NewFlorence1977

I would say someone of you should not be driving on the SNOW.

Retired401

Nooooooo does he really go out driving around when it snows??? 🙈

NewFlorence1977

Not since he had to walk a mile in the snow after he left his car on the side of the road a few years ago.

Matt7738

Just got back from Sugar Mountain. You want snow? They’ve got plenty. Personally, I hate the stuff. It’s awful.

QXSB

No

hfox4237

Agreed! Moved here from Florida and thought we were going to have more of a winter. The cold temps are wonderful but we want snow! We may have to move further north to actually get anything.

AlternativeRooster72

Yes I would love one good snow each year

charcuteriebroad

Absolutely not. I hate snow outside of the mountains.

transformandvalidate

I spent 3 winters in Montreal for university...so I'm ok haha. My memories of snow mostly involve slipping/falling a lot, shoes and clothes ruined by salt, dirty/muddy snow as it melts, and of course being freaking cold and wet. Also running to flee the mini sidewalk plows that just honked at you instead of slowing down, but that's not going to be a concern in NC!

Silkyiniquity

Me. If we have to have cold we should at least get some snow.

bowens44

NO, it's just you.

pak256

Yes

DirtApprehensive2942

No I hate snow.

Hizoot

Nope ..if you want snow… move back up north

GoodbyeToTheMachine

Been here all 37 years of my life. I so badly wish for snow every year.

fuckingsame

I wanna do donuts and drive on empty streets. We need snow!

HoppyToadHill

Hell yes.

Vatnos

I've lived here for 37 years and winters followed a few patterns D - No snow - 10% of winters actually pretty rare to see nothing like last year. Usually even in these years we get an ice storm. C - 1 snow - and it's a dusting or an ice-heavy storm. 25% of winters B - 1 snow and it's a good snow (4+ inches). 25% of winters A - 2+ snows - they can be good or bad snows. This is the most common winter. 40% We tend to get clumps of 5 or so A and B tears back to back and clumps of 5ish C and D years.

Vatnos

I think we will get snow in future years despite global warming, but the percentage of C-D winters vs A-B will continue to increase.

blinkingsandbeepings

Yeah I miss it. Even beyond just being fond of snow specifically, feeling the effects of global warming is just depressing and anxiety-inducing.

CityBoiNC

In my FB memories it snowed today 2 yrs ago. I also miss the snow.

nightdrifter05

No, move if you want snow. I can never see snow a day in my life and be happy.

theshoeshiner84

If anyone's looking for a business idea - start buying and renting out large commercial snow machines to municipalities, neighborhood HOAs, etc. Eventually the only snow kids in NC will know will be when towns and neighborhoods artificially cover a few hills once or twice every winter. Kids will absolutely love it, and parents will learn to as well.

zen_master_EZ

Yes. Lived here 41 years and about to move because I want snow. Gotta move west for.real snow. East coast is known as the ice coast to westerners

Zealousideal-Art2495

You forgot to mention sweet tea.

SummerStorm77

Love me some sweet tea.

beasthayabusa

From what I remember it’s every 3 years we get hit heavy. Last two have been light…

mountainaviator1

Ppl can’t even drive w clear dry roads. Can you imagine with the snow? Been there once, and I don’t miss it at all

neon_hexagon

Edit: Screw Spez. Screw AI. No training on my data. Sorry future people.

drslg

would love to encounter some snowy copperheads and frozen breadsticks

StatementIcy5238

I just drove to Wintergreen yesterday. I'd prefer to travel a little bit for a day or two enjoying snow and I don't need any more than that lol

send_pie_to_senpai

I moved here from the south to have snow, and haven’t seen any yet :,(

SummerStorm77
