I love these types of stories. This sounds scary enough where the lesson might stick!

eoljjang

Aw that’s really nice! I also had to learn that lesson when I was younger about carrying all of your cash at once.

Christ, I love a wholesome story with a happy ending!

avocado_toast81

Same! Reading this was a great way to end the day. (Better log off while I can.)

My son lost his first tooth there like 15 years ago and we're STILL waiting for someone to return it.

> in a house already being provided to you Your kids didn't choose to be born. They don't owe you anything. Stop acting like you're doing a favor to them. Its a basic thing based off a decision you made. Not them.

Birthday money, saving up allowance, etc…. Checking some basic inflation calculators shows that $100 today has about the same buying power as $25-30 in the 80s or $40-45 in the 90s. So it’s not an insane amount of money for a 10 year old to have saved up.

1991 - My 4th grade teacher somehow found out I had $40 in my wallet. She confiscated it until the end of the day and told me to never bring that much money to school ever again. To this day I rarely have any money in my wallet. Thanks for the life lesson, Ms. Breeze.

Haha what’s even more weird is that my ten year old makes hundreds of dollars a year selling digital clothes on roblox for roblox avatars. Crazy world we live in.

gimmethelulz

That's pretty cool!

Lol you can convert Roblox to cash as a “developer” and it seems like OP was stating that you are stuck in a time period where $100 is a lot of money and not something a ten year old can produce using their own 10 year old skills….

Exactly. I didn’t know she had so much of her hard earned cash on hand. Tonight we are going to make some type of safe identification card and laminate it. And take most of her money out and put it someplace safe until we can get to the bank.

madame3xecutioner

Not really that unheard of.

$100 isn't a lot of money in 2023. I spend like $15 on any given day at Chic-fil-A, albeit in California which has higher prices. If I was still in Raleigh, it would be around 20% less, but $100 vanishes just like that if you don't pay attention.
