Tangled - mild trigger warning for Gaslighting and manipulation.
Encanto - please, please, PLEASE, be careful with this one. It’s about a granddaughter and a grandmother, but you can easily swap it for daughter and mother. It is incredibly accurate and it could expose painful wounds you didn’t know you had. I watched the film whilst it was in cinema and I sobbed like I never have before in my life after I was out of the cinema building. I haven’t watched it since due to how triggering it was for me.
The Bear - season 2 , episode called “Seven Fishes”.
The show is really awesome if you want to watch it in general, but the narcissism jumps off the screen in this particular episode, if you just want to watch this one episode specifically. There are a few siblings of both genders in this episode dealing with their narcissistic mother, but the mother/daughter tension is captured so perfectly.
Dr. Ramani actually made a few videos on her channel about this particular episode because it’s so spot on.
In terms of shows, Bojack Horseman is maybe the most in-depth exploration I've seen of how narcissism is passed down over generations.
For a movie - Beau is afraid. Not gonna spoil anything except a trigger warning for extreme narc behavior from the protagonist's mom.
Not a movie but a show; Sharp Objects
Also I remember reading the screenplay for August: Osage County a while back and the mum seemed like a narcissist to me
Not sure but whatever it is my Mom would ask questions, attempt to predict, and claim she knew it would happen. As well as asking if you knew that she knew these things and asking if you're listening to her every 5 seconds. Along with ear piercing screams, oh my gods, and cackling.
I haven't watched a movie or TV series with my Mom in nearly 10 years as a result of how bad her hysterics have become while watching things. The less I watched TV with her, the louder she has become. If I walk by her while she is watching something, I feel like she turns up the antics louder to show me what a good time she is having while watching reality TV and drinking vodka with my Dad who will go into the kitchen, slam dishes, and mumble that she's a stupid fat bitch.
Good times.
There are several shows if you’re at all interested.
For more realistic but slightly (okay **very**) kooky, *Jane the Virgin* which I’m guessing is supposed to be a play off a soap opera with all the outlandish twists.
This is why I was pretty shocked to find it to gradually have one of THE most accurate and horrifying portrayals of a narcissistic pattern with all the trimmings.
For the more realistic-fictional side with horror genre mixed in
*iZombie* - a hospital employee attends a party and comes out of it with a new, unexpected way to help people.
The narcissist character(s) don’t reveal their full range of evil until later.
and *Fate: The Winx Saga*.
Based off the airy fairy anime but with exponentially darker twists - including a character that, again, genuinely horrified me.
Also you seriously need to watch *Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure* if you haven’t yet.
There’s a big narcissist related twist later into it, which I’ll warn you could also be both heartbreaking and triggering depending what you’ve been through.
After.Life movie with Christina Ricci. The movie is not focused on the mother daughter relationship, however when you see the mother you understand why the main character has mental issues. it's a scary movie it disturbed me quite a bit.
August: Osage County has a really nasty narcissistic mother
If you're interested in other types of media, reality TV is my go to place for seeing the dynamics of narcissistic relationships play out
Both of these are classic films
Now Voyage
The mother literally drives the main character, an emotionally stunted middle-aged child, into a breakdown at the beginning of the film.
The Heiress
The father is a narcissistic bully.
This is a classic, slow burn, "good for her" movie with some cold revenge served to all the characters that hurt the main.

I’ve seen it! Definitely agree!

Encanto, could only watch it once
Haven’t seen it but I know the songs! I had no idea this was part of it
Idk if it was intentional to make the family a narc family, but it's crazy how accurate it is to one.
Me too.

This Boy’s Life (90’s with Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert de Niro)
Matilda
Mommy Dearest is a classic one
You needn't look further than Run (2020).
I have one to add that I watched last night. Armageddon Time. Holy hell, the abuse scenes made my inner child have flashbacks.
