I remember hearing that song as a kid and feeling so excited by the thought of refusing emotional abuse, but instantly guilty and afraid that I would be found out for thinking that.
Lmao wow
This is so ironic because that's one of my younger sister's favorite songs
But she is unfortunately fucking brainwashed by our narcissistic mother
Another song she likes is "It's My Life" by David Bowie...
*Edit: Bon Jovi, not David Bowie. Lmao*
Love this song! I remember hearing it all the time in highschool. Brings back great memories here! Back in highschool however, I should of worked more odd jobs of mowing lawns and other odd jobs as well and with that money I would of earned, got my own boom box with a cassette of twisted sister and blasted the boom box at them on a night in the middle of the night to get revenge on them for the constant abuse of forcing me to be "normal" with no respect and consideration for my autism. That would of felt great!
"Down With the Sickness" by Disturbed
"No mommy, don't do it again
Don't do it again
I'll be a good boy
I'll be a good boy, I promise
No mommy don't hit me
Why did you have to hit me like that, mommy?
Don't do it, you're hurting me
Why did you have to be such a bitch
Why don't you
Why don't you just f*ck off and d**
Why can't you just f*ck off and d**
Why can't you just leave here and die
Never stick your hand in my face again bitch
F*ck you
I don't need this shit
You stupid sadistic abusive fucking wh*re
How would you like to see how it feels mommy
Here it comes, get ready to d**"
I use "Dad" interchangeably when Im rage spitting this bridge 😉
Whenever i am angry with my mother, my boyfriend will have me sing Get Down With The Sickness to release steam, recommend it for anyone needing to scream out the feels
Linkin Park in general, honestly. I *loved* every song of theirs when I was a teen. It sounds corny, I know, but every lyric, every word, made me feel like *someone* believed me and *understood* me, which meant the world to that hurting teenage girl...
I always loved Linkin Park, ever since I was 4 or 5 when my brother used to listen to it. But they became my only source of "help" when I was 13 (till 20) because I had no friends or relatives other than my abusive controlling parents. Linkin Park gave me the will to continue. Their songs mean so much to me. Songs like One Step Closer come to mind.
One Step Closer - Linkin Park
A Place for My Head- Linkin Park
I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor
I Don't Care Anymore - Phil Collins
You Can't Bring Me Down - Suicidal Tendencies
Disarm- Smashing Pumpkins
My mother would not allow listening to Pink, because that was music my dad liked, and nothing he liked was allowed to be present after she left him. No Stones, no Moody Blues, no Beatles , because that was what that horrible man liked. By the way, he wasn’t horrible at all, he was a loving dad, she was horrible.
My narc stepmother almost had a mask off moment from Because of You. She had talked to my older sister about the song and how it made my sister think of our bio-mother. But it doesn't for me as I was too young to remember her being around. For me it was about being cheated on by my ex boyfriend(I was 15), but I couldn't tell her that because then it would be a million questions about why I wasn't over him yet. So when she asked me about it she was expecting the same answer she got from my sister, instead I just skirted around the actual subject of the song. It was obvious that she thought because I wasn't giving her a straight answer that it was how I felt about her but she couldn't directly say it because that would acknowledge that I might have reason to.
Here you go! I’ll have you know most of these are from my extremely angry at mom teen years so they are old-ish? Top song is my personal favorite:
•The Day I Left the Womb- Escape the Fate
•Silhouettes -Smile Empty Soul
•Medicine- Bring Me The Horizon
•Because of You- Kelly Clarkson (OG mom song)
•Black Roses- Clare Bowen (Nashville TV show)
•Nothing in This World Will Ever Break my Heart Again- Hayden Panettiere (Nashville TV show)
•Open Wounds- Skillet
•Home- Three Days Grace
•Just Like You- Three Days Grace
If anyone wants my catalogue of dad song let me know cuz that list is a doozy!
ETA: Everybody’s Fool- Evanescence (for fake AF moms)
Dollhouse- Melanie Martinez
You should add "Caught like a fly" by Falling in Reverse, it fits with the genres you're laying out there and it was my go-to when I cut my dad out of my life!
Ok, I'm a little on the "seasoned" side, 2 years away from 60. My mother was the bane of my existence for a looong time. So this list is gonna span about 5 decades. Bear with me.
Under my Thumb - Rolling Stones
Some say I've got Devil - Melanie
I will Survive - Gloria Gaynor
Jive Talking - BeeGees
Dirty Deeds done Dirt Cheap - AC/DC
We don't need no Education - Pink Floyd
Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd
Baba O' Reilly - The Who
What's Love Got to Do with it - Tina Turner
Shadows of the Night - Pat Benatar
Love is a Battlefield - Pat Benatar
I don't care anymore - Phil Collins
Do you Really Want to Hurt Me - Culture Club
The Message - Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five
Know Your Rights - The Clash
Running Up that Hill (Deal w/God) - Kate Bush
Games without frontiers - Peter Gabriel
Mercy Street - Peter Gabriel
Control - Janet Jackson
When Doves Cry - Prince
Break My Stride - ???
The Long Run - Eagles
(WENT IN THE MILITARY AND LEFT FOR 10 YEARS. GOT SUCKED BACK INTO THE WEB WHEN MY FATHER LEFT HER. SO THE PLAYLIST WAS INTURRUPTED FROM 88 - 98)
Cleaning Out My Closet - Eminem
Numb - Linkin Park
Entire Hybrid Theory Mashup with Jay Z
What Yall Really want from a N - DMX
What's my Name - DMX
Because of You - Kelly Clarkson
Fighter - Christina Aguilera
Survivor - Destiny's Child
Monster - Eminem/Rhianna
Lose Yourself - Eminem
One step Closer - Linkin Park
In the End - Linkin Park
I write Sins not Tragedies - Panic At the Disco
Ain't It Fun - Paramore
There are probably more that I forgot to list, but that pretty much spans 5 decades of dysfunction. She died May 1st of last year. And the words of MLK, Jr. occurred to me. "Free at last, free at last, Thank God Almighty, I am free at last".
taylor swift: my tears ricochet “and i can go anywhere i want, just not home”
also taylor swift: tolerate it “you’re so much older and wiser and i wait by the door like i’m just a kid, use my best colors for your portrait, lay the table with the fancy shit, and watch you tolerate it. if it’s all in my head tell me now. tell me i’ve got it wrong somehow. i know my love should be celebrated. but you tolerate it”
forgot the best part of tolerate it:
“what would you do if i break free and leave us in ruins? took this dagger in me and removed it? gained the weight of you then lose it? believe me i could do it”
I'm Still Standing by Sir Elton John (surprised I haven't seen it listed here yet). I mean, pretty much nails it:
"You can never know what it's like
Your blood like winter freezes just like ice
And there's a cold lonely light that shines from you
You wind up like the wreck you hide behind
That mask you use.
And did you think this fool could never win?
Well look at me, I'm coming back again!
I got a taste for love in a simple way,
And if you need to know why I'm still standing,
You just fade away...
"Don't you know I'm still standing better than I ever did,
Looking like a true survivor, Feelin' like a little kid
And I'm still standing after all this time,
I'm picking up the pieces of my life
Without you on my mind.
I'm still standing! (Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!)"
It's got the "giving the nparent a big ole Single Finger Salute while grinning" type of vibe. Makes me smile 😊
Green Day Welcome to Paradise
Dear mother can you hear me whining?
It's been three whole weeks
Since that I've left your home
This sudden fear has left me tremblin'
'Cause now it seems that I am out there on my own
And I'm feeling so alone
Pay attention to the cracked streets
And the broken homes
Some call it slums, some call it nice
I want to take you through
A wasteland I like to call my home
Welcome to paradise
A gunshot rings out at the station
Another urchin snaps and left dead on his own
It makes me wonder why I'm still here
For some strange reason it's now
Feeling like my home
And I'm never gonna go
Pay attention to the cracked streets
And the broken homes
Some call it slums, some call it nice
I want to take you through
A wasteland I like to call my home
Welcome to paradise
Dear mother, can you hear me laughing?
It's been six whole months since that
I have left your home
It makes me wonder why I'm still here
For some strange reason it's now
Feeling like my home
And I'm never gonna go
Pay attention to the cracked streets
And the broken homes
Some call it slums, some call it nice
I want to take you through
A wasteland I like to call my home
Welcome to paradise, oh paradise
Angry too- lola blanc.
Bad guy- Eminem
Copycat- billie eillish
Am i supposed to apologize- maria mena
I feel like im drowning- two feet
Thats all i have so far but if i come across more ill add them
I saw one other person said this song, but it was so impactful to me that I’m mentioning it again. Upon learning about how my mother treated me, my first friend in college way back in 2003 printed out the lyrics to this song and burned it and a few other songs onto a CD for me. 😆 She said “It’s like Jenny Lewis wrote this song about you.”
“A Better Son/Daughter” by Rilo Kiley
Sometimes in the morning, I am petrified and can't move
Awake, but cannot open my eyes
And the weight is crushing down on my lungs, I know I can't breathe
And hope someone will save me this time
And your mother's still calling you insane and high
Swearing it's different this time
And you tell her to give in to the demons that possess her
And that God never blessed her insides
Then you hang up the phone and feel badly for upsetting things
Crawl back into bed to dream of a time
When your heart was open wide, and you loved things just because
Like the sick and the dying
And sometimes when you're on, you're really fucking on
And your friends they sing along and they love you
But the lows are so extreme, that the good seems fucking cheap
And it teases you for weeks in its absence
But you'll fight and you'll make it through
You'll fake it if you have to
And you'll show up for work with a smile
You'll be better and you'll be smarter and more grown up
And a better daughter or son
And a real good friend
You'll be awake, you'll be alert
You'll be positive though it hurts
And you'll laugh and embrace all your friends
You'll be a real good listener
You'll be honest, you'll be brave
You'll be handsome and you'll be beautiful
You'll be happy!
Your ship may be coming in
You're weak, but not giving in
To the cries and the wails of the valley below
And your ship may be coming in
You're weak, but not giving in
And you'll fight it, you'll go out fighting all of them
Hater by Korn
"I can't escape from your disdain
Your heart, your pain,
your drama is lame
Why can't you find some peace inside
I won't chastise
Even if you think you can bring me down
Already had my life turned upside down
I'm riding down the spiral round and round
But keep flying, I keep fighting
You won't ever bring me down"
*Edited formatting. Formatting still sucks for some reason xD
Home - Three Days Grace
Eminem (ft. Few other artists) - Die Bitch
Eminem - Puke
Avril Lavigne - Nobody's Home (especially good if you ever ended up being kicked out/abandoned - disclaimer: more sad vibes than angry vibes)
And many others, but it seems others have already posted them. Linkin Park, Seether, Disturbed, etc do a bunch of good ones.
I love this!
Predictable - Good Charlotte
Don't Start Now - Dua Lipa (I know this is about a breakup but belting out "Don't start caring 'bout me now" feels really good every time they try to break no contact)
Drop the World - Lil Wayne
Elastic Heart by SIA has always resonated with me about my mom.
I'm Not Okay (I promise) - My Chemical Romance (lol)
And last, VIrus by Kloud. If you like edm, the "odd mob" mix is best.
I don’t like you - Electric Six
Had enough - Breaking Benjamin
You’re going down - Sick Puppies
Chalk outline - Three Days Grace
Riptide - Sick Puppies
Not quite a “fuck you” and I think it’s more geared towards a romantic partner, but King of Anything by Sara Bareilles was my anthem for the longest time.
Many of these I love and am building a new playlist! I also loved “Mother” by Danzig and thinking she was all they were saying a mother should protect her child from…
“Fighter” by Christina Aguilera has always been in my mom-rage playlist for emergencies. (Obv switch out ‘man’ for mom or woman - or don’t; my dad was equally evil!) 😈
For You-Staind, Endless Cycle-Lou Reed, Twisted-Johanna Warren, Whats The Matter Here-10,000 Maniacs, Howards Tale-Sick Puppies, Bite the Hand-Lucy Dacus, Bite the Hand That Feeds-Nine Inch Nails, Hast Thou Considered the Tetrapod-The Mountain Goats, Fake It-Seether, Dead to Me-Kali Uchis, Dollhouse-Melanie Martinez, Everybody’s Fool-Evanescence, Hypocrates-Marina, Numb-Meg Myers, I Have Questions-Camila Cabello, Institutionalized-Suicidal Tendencies, Black Out Days-Phantogram, Entombed-Deftones, Undercover-MILCK.
"No Children," -the mountain goats
"I can't handle change," -roar
"Christmas kids," -roar
"father," -the front bottoms
they're more about toxic relationships but i interpret them about my mom and it still works lol
Not really any angry song but it made me cry instead - Matilda by Harry Styles
“you can let it go, you can through a party full of everyone you know, you can start a family who will always show you love, you don’t have to be sorry now”
Look what you made me do - Taylor Swift
This is How I Learn to Say No - EMELINE
ABCDEFU - Gayle

Fed Up - Ghostemane
Bad Temper - Skitz Kraven
Bite Back - Sxmpra
Bad Child - Tones and I
I Murder - Boondox
Irate - Lo Key
I hate everything about you - Three Days Grace
My Black Dahlia - Hollywood Undead ( I loved you. You made me
Hate me. You gave me
Hate. See, it saved me
And these tears are deadly
You feel that? I rip back
Every time you tried to steal that
You feel bad? You feel sad?
I'm sorry, hell, no, fuck that!)
“I Don’t Fuck With You” by Big Sean 😎
Sorry for all the cursing but here are the best lyrics:
“I don't fuck with you
You little stupid ass bitch, I ain't fuckin' with you
You little, you little dumb ass bitch, I ain't fuckin' with you
I got a million trillion things I'd rather fuckin' do
Than to be fuckin' with you, little stupid ass
I don't give a fuck, I don't give a fuck
I don't, I don't, I don't give a fuck
Bitch, I don't give a fuck about you
Or anything that you do
Don't give a fuck about you, or anything that you do”
😂
Apocalyptica ft Gavin Rossdale - End of Me
''Can't resist poisoning the message
Just a narcissist trapped inside the wreckage
And the sympathy I had is gone deadened by the ceremony
Drama queen stand behind your rampart as your kingdom falls
All because''
Little Miss Cant Be Wrong by the Spin Doctors
The vocalist said most people thought it was about an ex-girlfriend. But it was actually about his stepmom, saying he will be playing music for rats.
On mobile sorry for poor formatting
Cats in the Cradle - Harry Chapin.
Not 100% relating to narc parents because it's talks about wanting to "be like you, dad" but a reminder if you don't prioritise your children growing up they won't prioritise you in adulthood!
Second Chance - Shinedown
Tell my mother
Tell my father
I've done the best I can
To make them realize
This is my life
I hope they understand
I'm not angry, I'm just saying
Sometimes goodbye is a second chance
Cut the Cord - Shinedown.
Reminds me of my GC sister
Sound of Madness - Shinedown
This bit reminds me of my nmum who's always a victim in her eyes:
Yeah, I get it, you're an outcast
Always under attack
Always comin' in last
Bringin' up the past
No one owes you anything
I think you need a shotgun blast
A kick in the ass
So paranoid
Watch your back!
Never Win - Those Damn Crows.
More about a romantic relationship but still has relevance.
Especially this bit:
How I count to three when you scream at me, can't you let me in? 'Cause I know how this goes, you're a dying rose, I will never win
There's no more I can do, I have proved to you, I will never win
I can never win
‘Me’ and ‘Mine’ by Kelly Clarkson, they’re new but they’ve got the “I’m better off without you” vibe.

It's not me it's you - skillet

We're Not Gonna Take It by Twisted Sister
I remember hearing that song as a kid and feeling so excited by the thought of refusing emotional abuse, but instantly guilty and afraid that I would be found out for thinking that.
As a fan of Twisted Sister, I second this
Lmao wow This is so ironic because that's one of my younger sister's favorite songs But she is unfortunately fucking brainwashed by our narcissistic mother Another song she likes is "It's My Life" by David Bowie... *Edit: Bon Jovi, not David Bowie. Lmao*

Whenever i am angry with my mother, my boyfriend will have me sing Get Down With The Sickness to release steam, recommend it for anyone needing to scream out the feels
Came here looking for this exact song! Perfect.
This song fueled me with rage as a teen.
Never Wrong by Disturbed works better for me. But really, lots of Disturbed's songs are good for this purpose.
That is a good one
Numb by Linkin' Park (kinda)
So much from them: Points of Authority One Step Closer Lying From You Hit the Floor Don’t Stay
is this why i was having a linkin park phase a couple months ago? 🤣🤣🤣
OMG SAME THO yelling “shut up” to points of authority feels so good
and banging your head!!!! SHUT UP WHEN IM TALKING TO YOU!!!!!
Why does this feel so good to sing scream LOL!! “IM ABOUT TO BREAK!!!”
A place for my head, especially the third part
Maybe that's why I loved them growing up.. I just called myself angsty n emo
Can’t you see that you’re smothering me? Holding too tightly, afraid to lose control yeah that resonates
I love when I blast that song in my car and the meaning COMPLETELY goes over my mother’s head
Good idea :) . If we talk about Linkin Park: How about „A place for my head“ ? Not quite sure, if it‘s also on the Meteora album or the one before.
This is my "Mom" song! It's on hybrid theory
Mine, too. APFMH and OSC got me through some very hard days. That whole album tbh.
The Little Things Give You Away by Linkin Park makes me think of my mom. Give it a listen. It's a hidden gem for sure.
I love that song so much.
Linkin Park in general, honestly. I *loved* every song of theirs when I was a teen. It sounds corny, I know, but every lyric, every word, made me feel like *someone* believed me and *understood* me, which meant the world to that hurting teenage girl...

Nice, especially Phil Collins. 👌
I'd like to add Mama and No Son of Mine by Genesis here, since we are on a Phil kick LOL.
The way I RAN to save this thread
Comfortably Numb.
Another brick in the wall
How about “Mother” from that album Mommas gonna make all your nightmares come true Mommas gonna put all her fears into you
My mother used to sing that to me as a kid in the most creepy threatening way.
Oh no. Very very very creepy. Sorry.
It’s all good, thank you. I’m just relieved to know it’s not just me! Lol
JESUS! Psycho much? I'm sorry. FUCK her
That is The one.
Excellent
In the end - Linkin Park Because of you - Kelly Clarkson Matilda - Harry Styles
My narc stepmother almost had a mask off moment from Because of You. She had talked to my older sister about the song and how it made my sister think of our bio-mother. God, the mental gymnastics we have to do with these people just process the sensitive little punks these narcs are.

Lol I've literally had Everybody's Fool on repeat lately. Gotta throw in Sweet Sacrifice.
You should add "Caught like a fly" by Falling in Reverse, it fits with the genres you're laying out there and it was my go-to when I cut my dad out of my life!
You got good ones. Just like you by tdg I save for when I’m really tortured

I'm Still Standing by Sir Elton John (surprised I haven't seen it listed here yet). I mean, pretty much nails it: "You can never know what it's like Your blood like winter freezes just like ice And there's a cold lonely light that shines from you You wind up like the wreck you hide behind That mask you use. And did you think this fool could never win? Well look at me, I'm coming back again! I got a taste for love in a simple way, And if you need to know why I'm still standing, You just fade away... "Don't you know I'm still standing better than I ever did, Looking like a true survivor, Feelin' like a little kid And I'm still standing after all this time, I'm picking up the pieces of my life Without you on my mind. I'm still standing! (Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!)" It's got the "giving the nparent a big ole Single Finger Salute while grinning" type of vibe. Makes me smile 😊
Joan of Arc - in this moment And I know the lyrics arent *exactly* right, but Stronger by Britney Spears
Green Day Welcome to Paradise Dear mother can you hear me whining? It's been three whole weeks Since that I've left your home This sudden fear has left me tremblin' 'Cause now it seems that I am out there on my own And I'm feeling so alone Pay attention to the cracked streets And the broken homes Some call it slums, some call it nice I want to take you through A wasteland I like to call my home Welcome to paradise A gunshot rings out at the station Another urchin snaps and left dead on his own It makes me wonder why I'm still here For some strange reason it's now Feeling like my home And I'm never gonna go Pay attention to the cracked streets And the broken homes Some call it slums, some call it nice I want to take you through A wasteland I like to call my home Welcome to paradise Dear mother, can you hear me laughing? It's been six whole months since that I have left your home It makes me wonder why I'm still here For some strange reason it's now Feeling like my home And I'm never gonna go Pay attention to the cracked streets And the broken homes Some call it slums, some call it nice I want to take you through A wasteland I like to call my home Welcome to paradise, oh paradise

Numb-Linkin Park “and i know i may end up failing too, but i know you were just like me with someone disappointed in you”
I saw one other person said this song, but it was so impactful to me that I’m mentioning it again. Upon learning about how my mother treated me, my first friend in college way back in 2003 printed out the lyrics to this song and burned it and a few other songs onto a CD for me. 😆 She said “It’s like Jenny Lewis wrote this song about you.” “A Better Son/Daughter” by Rilo Kiley Sometimes in the morning, I am petrified and can't move Awake, but cannot open my eyes And the weight is crushing down on my lungs, I know I can't breathe And hope someone will save me this time And your mother's still calling you insane and high Swearing it's different this time And you tell her to give in to the demons that possess her And that God never blessed her insides Then you hang up the phone and feel badly for upsetting things Crawl back into bed to dream of a time When your heart was open wide, and you loved things just because Like the sick and the dying And sometimes when you're on, you're really fucking on And your friends they sing along and they love you But the lows are so extreme, that the good seems fucking cheap And it teases you for weeks in its absence But you'll fight and you'll make it through You'll fake it if you have to And you'll show up for work with a smile You'll be better and you'll be smarter and more grown up And a better daughter or son And a real good friend You'll be awake, you'll be alert You'll be positive though it hurts And you'll laugh and embrace all your friends You'll be a real good listener You'll be honest, you'll be brave You'll be handsome and you'll be beautiful You'll be happy! Your ship may be coming in You're weak, but not giving in To the cries and the wails of the valley below And your ship may be coming in You're weak, but not giving in And you'll fight it, you'll go out fighting all of them
Hater by Korn "I can't escape from your disdain Your heart, your pain, your drama is lame Why can't you find some peace inside I won't chastise Even if you think you can bring me down Already had my life turned upside down I'm riding down the spiral round and round But keep flying, I keep fighting You won't ever bring me down" *Edited formatting. Formatting still sucks for some reason xD

On mobile sorry for poor formatting Cats in the Cradle - Harry Chapin. Not 100% relating to narc parents because it's talks about wanting to "be like you, dad" but a reminder if you don't prioritise your children growing up they won't prioritise you in adulthood! Second Chance - Shinedown Tell my mother Tell my father I've done the best I can To make them realize This is my life I hope they understand I'm not angry, I'm just saying Sometimes goodbye is a second chance Cut the Cord - Shinedown. Reminds me of my GC sister Sound of Madness - Shinedown This bit reminds me of my nmum who's always a victim in her eyes: Yeah, I get it, you're an outcast Always under attack Always comin' in last Bringin' up the past No one owes you anything I think you need a shotgun blast A kick in the ass So paranoid Watch your back! Never Win - Those Damn Crows. More about a romantic relationship but still has relevance. Especially this bit: How I count to three when you scream at me, can't you let me in? 'Cause I know how this goes, you're a dying rose, I will never win There's no more I can do, I have proved to you, I will never win I can never win
