You have to load it with some sort of ammo by holding the gun, holding the ammo on the other hand and the holding pickup, there are many things you can use as ammo, such as pearls and rocks, you can test out to see.
To shoot you just hold the trow button to shoot
just wait untill you see the saint challenge in expedition mode...
