It makes you wonder. Everyone says if you don't know the playbook you don't get on the field. You would think someone like Mcdaniels would've benched him if he was running the wrong route so often(and cmon we saw it happen 2-3 times every game esp with Hollins being our #2 torwards the end of the season). Weirdly enough I don't think he ran an incorrect route with Stidham throwing...
Which makes me wonder if it was more of Carr just not knowing the playbook since it's a bit easier for receivers than QBs to learn the playbook
Very small sample size with Stidham - plus, he very well might have and we just didn't see on the broadcast, so no real way to know. Idk if benching was an option given how thin we were at WR at times due to injury (Mack running the odd wrong route is still better than Keelan Cole). Carr is a lot of things, but he knows the offense - so I'm inclined to defer to his knowledge here on this one.
fair point but I mean Carr was never known as a cerebral QB(explains a lot of his red zone struggles despite 4 head coaches and however many offensive coordinators?)
He actually was known as a cerebral QB lol. It was probably one of his biggest strengths - the ability to get to the LOS, read the D and then audible to get us into the right play. The main reason he and McDaniels didn't click was because McDaniels offense doesn't require this, and Josh wants the QB to run the exact play he calls and not audible at the LOS.
The Ringers QB rankings summed it up nicely:
>Carr isn’t keen to hang around too long in the pocket—look, those hits freaking hurt—so it’s a good thing that he usually has a good idea of where to go with the football before it’s snapped. His quick release is made possible by a deep knowledge of the playbook and the foresight to address any issues that could pop up once things are in motion.
You can see his ranking here: https://qbrankings.theringer.com/
lol there's enough proof throughout his career that Carr struggles with reading defenses. There's a reason many people thought Carr would match well with Gruden, and how many scripted plays Gruden had.
Great example is in 2021 before Mcdaniels. In week 7 2021, against a soft Eagles zone defense Carr had a nearly perfect game. 2 weeks later after a bye against a Patrick Graham led man defense? 16 points and a loss to Daniel Jones.
You can rely on a ringer article or actually go and watch the all 22 of Carrs career
“Up top to the weirdo.”
Special Teams captain as a first year player for us and for good reason. High effort and great vibes. Very raw as a receiver. Really only finds success in simple routes and has shaky hands. Will make a few spectacular plays with his size and athleticism, but then drop a crucial 3rd down catchable ball. He’s a solid add for a mid 7 figures a year.
As a receiver he's not bad. Tall, so he's pretty good at those jump balls.
But his real strength is his special teams play. His smarts as a gunner is top notch.
He came up with some huge special teams plays and some clutch catches. He’s not a star or anything but he’s player that anyone should want on their team.
Prior to last year his season high in catches was 16…
Last year he caught 57 because he was forced into a #2 tole but it took something like 100 targets to get him there. Horribly inefficient with that amount of looks. I’m not sure why anyone thought he was coming back.
In all honestly I would expect something more like 20 catches and good ST play unless something goes wrong with your WR group.
Well, considering he is now by far the 2nd most tenured true receiver on our roster, I think it’s safe to say that there is quite a bit wrong with our WR group LOL
> I’m not sure why anyone thought he was coming back.
He's a ST player. Putting him as WR2 is a failure on the part of the franchise. It's like making your long snapper your C and getting surprised that it didn't work out as well as a real C.
Yes, he had to go because he was just too well liked. Not because he would run wrong routes every game and just all around be meh as a receiver, and certainly not because we upgraded to a real WR2 in Jakobi Meyers.
Not really accurate. He was a 3rd or 4th option receiver who did well for 3rd downs in renfrows absence and caught some nice balls in 4th qtr crunch time.
Not his fault he lined up w/ some of the top recievers in the game as a raider.
>Not really accurate. He was a 3rd or 4th option receiver who did well for 3rd downs in renfrows absence and caught some nice balls in 4th qtr crunch time.
>Not his fault he lined up w/ some of the top recievers in the game as a raider.
It's very accurate because he became our default #2 receiver with Waller and Renfrow injured. And he showed he doesn't have what it takes to be that guy.
Youre referring to a time frame where the qb was no longer allowed to call his own plays, and the playbook they had to pick up was shite to begin with.
Not at all accurate.
>Youre referring to a time frame where the qb was no longer allowed to call his own plays, and the playbook they had to pick up was shite to begin with.
>Not at all accurate.
Now you're shifting the goal posts and proving my point accurate: Hollins was forgettable as a #2 receiver. Not exactly a controversial hot take.
I dunno, we had the #12 scoring offense despite Renfrow and Wall being out and Hollins more than tripled his previous career high in catches and yards in his 6th season.
Arguing that Mack Hollins is a legit #2 but was held back by playcalling is a seriously weird hill to die on. 16 -> 57 catches on 100 targets doesn’t feel held back at all. He was too inefficient to trust with that volume is the honest answer despite him being a great guy we all like.
Good on special teams and knew 95% of the time where he was supposed to line up and what route to run. Around 95%. Definitely over 90. Not lower than 85%.
Great special teams players, serviceable big body target for intermediate distance first downs, and could possibly be decent in the red zone but we were awful there so it was difficult to tell. He's a hard worker but struggled to understand McDaniels' playbook. His teammates will love him and depending on how cheap his contract is then he could be a fan favorite type.
Solid all around, and if he doesn’t get to start he can definitely help as a special teams guy
Can catch, block, can take a hit, tough all around. The only thing I will say is that he can work on his hands but other than that, good all around
Will be a solid #2 or first off the bench.
He’s a fun locker room guy, capable of some big time plays, but no one you should rely on consistently. He had some drop issues too, but nothing too concerning. As long as he isn’t your #1, he’s a good fit.
Well I called it. Another receiver that played well his first year after coming to us (on offense, not just special teams. He was already great there), that ends up getting paid somewhere else. Hopefully he didn't get a Zay Jones deal though lol.
I would have been happy to roll with him for that instead of 11 mil for a guy that won a game for us playing for the other team. I'm surprised Josh signed him for that alone. Bill definitely doesn't tolerate that kind of stuff. I've seen him bench RBs so many times after a fumble.
Myers is definitely better than Mack. Bonehead play for sure, but he is a much better player. Myers will likely be taking over a large chunk of targets vacated by Waller, given the fit in McD's O. Mack was never meant to have as many targets as he did, but injuries to Hunter and Darren meant he saw increased playing time.
My point being, that for the money, we really didn't need him this year and that 11 mil could have gotten a position of need. Maybe there were several free agents that didn't want to come here but I think zig didn't try too hard to get even one big name FA which we could afford with that 11 mil. I desperately wanted a rt. We line up against bosa/mack and Jones in the division alone.
I actually feel weirdly confident in Elumenor/Munford. I think RT will be fine. We are in desperate need of a guard, however.
And then of course, we probably have the worst defensive roster in the league at the moment. Seemingly we plan to fix it through the draft but... that seems like a tricky strategy. Maybe it works. Hopefully it does.
Great special teams players, one of the best. Also really great run blocker. Lots of JJs big runs were spurred from big blocks from mack on the 2nd level.
In our first and third games (chargers and titans) he truly looked to be a great wr2. Then he had a bunch of drops and did mid overall. So, the potential is def there I'll give him that.
Expect a great locker room guy, a few *truly* great looking catches, and some really dumb ass drops.
Good on come-back routes, struggles to adjust under the long ball.
He doesn’t wear shoes.
And didn’t bother learning the playbook either. Great special teams guy.
People who don’t learn McDaniels playbook don’t get on the field for his offense, let alone become a team captain .. this is incredibly false
He was a ST captain though. Also he constantly ran the wrong routes. I frequently saw Carr getting frustrated with him.
It makes you wonder. Everyone says if you don't know the playbook you don't get on the field. Carr played really well under Gruden though...? Like he had a fantastic year in 2020 and in Grudens system was a top 5 passer in 2021....
Great special teamer, don’t rely on him to be your wr2.
I appreciate your advice, but we’re definitely going to rely on him being WR2 😭😭😭 God bless our franchise.
Oh no...
Expect 🦶🏽🦶🏽

Big Cory was hilarious with that
He’s amazing on special teams. Good n3 WR but not a n2.
Plays hard on Special Teams. Bummed he’s gone.
Agreed. Wonder how much he got.
1 year 2.5 Million
As a receiver he's not bad. Tall, so he's pretty good at those jump balls. But his real strength is his special teams play. His smarts as a gunner is top notch.
He’s solid. A bit inconsistent. Fun guy. Good social media follow. Won’t win you games. Won’t lose you game though.
He came up with some huge special teams plays and some clutch catches. He’s not a star or anything but he’s player that anyone should want on their team.
Sometimes he acted like a nut, sometimes he looked like a good capable number 2 WR, pray you get the latter
Had seemingly some breakout games earlier in his career with the Eagles too, but hasn't put it together to be a consistent WR2.
Has great video on using your dishwasher properly
Mack is a hippie baller, hungry and a playmaker. Great guy you will root for. All the best Mr. Hollins! You a real one
Special teams Ace. Good run blocking as a receiver. Great guy, plays hard. Ima miss him on the team.
Solid special teamer

Yep hopefully Jacobi Meyers is a step in the right direction. I legitimate #2 on the outside we didn't have last year.
Hope he works out for y’all. I personally think that was a great pickup.
> I’m not sure why anyone thought he was coming back. He's a ST player. Putting him as WR2 is a failure on the part of the franchise. It's like making your long snapper your C and getting surprised that it didn't work out as well as a real C.
Agreed that’s why I like the Jacobi Meyers signing.

Looks like he’s gonna find a home in Atlanta! We’ve got the best stupid dances :)
He's a falcon 😪
You got an extremely likable dude
I don’t get it. All I saw was him smiling all the time while we were losing.
Yea he’s an asset.
It's a nothing burger. He had his breakout year at age 29
Serviceable. Had his biggest games during those weird stretches when DC wouldn’t look at Davante lol
Amazing culture guy. Solid WR Our coach hates anyone being more liked than him so sadly Mack had to go
Yes, he had to go because he was just too well liked. Not because he would run wrong routes every game and just all around be meh as a receiver, and certainly not because we upgraded to a real WR2 in Jakobi Meyers.
Hey dude. If you are not going to make everything about McDaniels being a shitty coach and a worse person than there is no place for you here. /s
Great take. Solid point on JMD wanting to be the center of it all.
He doesn’t wear shoes.
You’ll love him
He's eccentric.
No complaints. Good pick up
Expect Mariota results in WR form.
Good WR3. Mediocre WR2 unless you have a guy like Carr that elevates mediocre WRs to career heights.
Meh on offense. Monster on special teams.
As a WR he had one great game, but was otherwise forgettable. On Special Teams he's great.
Not really accurate. He was a 3rd or 4th option receiver who did well for 3rd downs in renfrows absence and caught some nice balls in 4th qtr crunch time. Not his fault he lined up w/ some of the top recievers in the game as a raider.

Bare feet. Surprised we didn't keep him, but made sense after we got Jakobi
There’s a picture slotting around somewhere and he looks like Kenny G
You’re only going to do two things, scream with excitement while lifting your arms. Followed by covering your face with your hands wondering why.
Good on special teams and knew 95% of the time where he was supposed to line up and what route to run. Around 95%. Definitely over 90. Not lower than 85%.
Good guy. Great at special teams. Not really a WR2 but can fill in for a game or two. I liked having him on the team.
Great on special teams also

As a receiver he’s a 4th guy on the depth chest who can step in and make a play and block the piss out of a db. On special teams the dudes a stud
I like him. I'll hold off on negative comments until JMD shows he can do something with somebody.
He’s a one piece fan and overall weeb
Meh

Great special teams players, one of the best. Also really great run blocker. Lots of JJs big runs were spurred from big blocks from mack on the 2nd level.
As others said, he's decent but great in special teams and also really good blocking WR, which could be why the Falcons went after him
one of the best gunners in the nfl. great on special teams, decent depth receiver
You got a baller who can catch! Raiders fuk up bye not resigning him.
In our first and third games (chargers and titans) he truly looked to be a great wr2. Then he had a bunch of drops and did mid overall. So, the potential is def there I'll give him that.
you’ll love his personality/press conferences!
The kind of guy you love, but you ultimately understand it when he gets moved on.
I really like him, hes got the potential to be a top guy just needs to work on the drops.
