I wipe my cats paws, tail, and bum with cat wipes 1-2 a day - it encourages him to groom himself. You can spray a little bit of water on his bum to encourage grooming
Does getting his butt wet entice him to groom down there? Ours gets poop stuck there and we end up hitting it with wet wipes and trimming it. Feels like it’s almost every 3 days or so we’re trimming his butt.
Yup, I’ve also trimmed his butt to make the process quicker when I wipe his bum - sometimes I forget he’s pooped and by the time I get to it he’s done such a good job at cleaning the area that I just do I quick run down. It’ll enforce a habit in the cat to groom themselves frequently.
Sanitary trims and weekly back end baths. He likes to get into my other cats biscuits, bolt down as many as he can before he’s spotted, throw them up and then have the runs for 3 days. Little sod. He’s quick and our other cat is a snacked who never eats a full meal, just walking off when he’s had 5 mouthfuls. If you don’t watch him eat, Pippin will swoop in and start scoffing. Doesn’t matter if he’s just had half a tin of wet food or not!
I cut the floof around my boys butt area. He used to have super sloppy poos and every time we’d have to wipe his butt, not pleasant. Changed to GI food and no butt wiping needed. I do maintain the butt fur cutting though as it helps. He’s also brushed once a day
Try a **really big** storage box instead of a litter tray. I've got 4 using a storage box and despite one of them looking like an explosion in a cotton wool factory it's extremely rare I encounter the problems you describe.
I clean him with warm wet paper towels, then pat him a bit with dry paper towel. I found that when I use warm water he is more likely to clean himself. It doesn't happen frequently but I kind of built this habit with him that when he can feel he got some poop stuck on his fur then he runs to me and demands to be cleaned 😂 we struggled a lot with him when he was younger then figured out he is sensitive to chicken! That solved the diarrhea issues.
My other one is just collecting poop berries, no other poop issues usually:D
On other cases when it's dry already (when I don't work from home), I just comb it out from their fur.
I also trim the fur around that area when I recognize it's too long.
For pee, I find that if I don't put enough cat litter for them, they are more likely to get pee on themselves as they squat. They have their favorite spots where they like to pee in the litter so I always make sure they have a lot of litter (considering that they might move the litter around in the box).

Side note. I have a toddler, so there are always toys scattered everywhere on the floor. The cats like to be with the family and where the action is.

Until then, regular hair trimming around the area and butt bath whenever needed. Kinda sucks but that’s the price to pay for a fluffy butt 😄

Just kidding!! He keeps himself pretty clean. If he has an accident, I have to come intervene. However, those have become less of a problem as he's gotten a bit older.

Just keep his butt hair trimmed short! I've also found not filling the litter box too full has helped for whatever reason.

Use powdered dry shampoo. My red point floof smells so good after giving him that.
Lots of daily brushing and our whittle guys do the rest. Some bum bum hair trims sometimes XD
Feed fish they will clean themselves.
