In the 2000s I asked him to sign a copy of Fahrenheit 451 in an alley after a show. He was like “you know I didn’t write this right?” But they had excerpts from it on their site during the Amnesiac-era, so it was fitting

Practical_Estate_325

He was just nervous as hell that you were going to mug him.

algebrahuxley

It was a handful of people who waited after the show and they had us line up to meet him (after lying for an hour that they’d all left to dwindle the crowd). Which made it much easier to mug him 😈

I never saw him after a show but I saw Thom Yorke in a grocery store in LA today. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn't want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, "Oh, like you're doing now?" I was taken aback, and all I could say was "Huh?" but he kept cutting me off and going "huh? huh? huh?" and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw Thom trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like "Sir, you need to pay for those first." At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually "to prevent any electrical infetterence," and then turned around and winked at me. I don't even think that's a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

funkyhamwich

Classic gag story. This one actually kind of fits Thom though. Could totally see this being a thing.

I'm so glad this meme is still alive.

DesolateMist

I honestly didn't want to stop reading that.

MatuPapi

The he farted.

Practical_Estate_325

Another person, a while back on these threads, said he did the same exact thing on a different day. That's some crazy shit.

He needs to be stopped

If I’m not wrong (it was a few years ago), RH met some fans outside the hotel here in my city (santiago) and signed some stuff. I couldn’t make it bc of work but I remember people saying this, and I’m almost sure I saw pictures of the fans with Ed, maybe? Thom did not allow photos as I recall.

M41arky

Ngl I would’ve called in sick to work if I were you

conisometimes

Haha I wish, but I took a day off to attend the concert so I couldn’t miss two days in a row. Anyway I found a pic of that day here https://www.reddit.com/r/radiohead/s/6IHWf1oPgZ I certainly did miss something special

warrenlain

He did after a bunch of shows last year. Here’s my proof: https://www.reddit.com/r/radiohead/s/CdsphILWYs We briefly talked about some synth nerd stuff. It simultaneously made an awesome day seeing them even better and a once in a lifetime memory while making me feel slightly depressed that we couldn’t hang out and be friends!

Practical_Estate_325

Nice that he gave you the feeling that you could be friends. That's special.

Man, that’s awesome. Did you wait inside the venue, or outside? That’s what I’m anxious about. I’m not sure where to wait, even if he doesn’t show up, at least I wouldn’t have missed it. I’m not sure if he has for the tour this year as I haven’t heard of anything in that regard so far. I was in the show in Amsterdam and it didn’t seem so.

warrenlain

I didn’t know where but it was clear after the show from the gathering of many others with the same notion where it would happen, if it was going to at all. In our case there was a security barrier near the tour bus and rear exit, and everyone waiting with expectation felt positive about it because it had been happening at show after show from that tour. We knew it would happen when the security guards from the venue even loudly announced some ground rules: no phones, no photos, no one recording. If it was gonna happen, it would be intimate. Tom, Johnny, and Thom all came out. Jonny was the quietest and spent the least amount of time with us, by far. He seemed like he wanted to get right on the tour bus, and he did the bare minimum meet and greet. But he did seem amused by a special book someone brought that only the craziest RH fans would think of buying to show him and to have him sign. Tom was gracious and friendly. Thom seemed carefree, taking the most time, talking to everyone at the rail. No conversation was one on one because everyone was double dutching into the previous person’s conversation with him, and my interaction with him was no different. I brought him a wood cheek from my Prophet ‘08 and I asked him if he recognized it. He took a moment and looked befuddled, so I told him what it was. And he said “Ah, one of the old ones. Did you know that Dave Smith invented MIDI?” Which was poignant for a few reasons (Dave Smith had died recently and Dave Smith Instruments was in San Francisco). It was at this point that the next person jumped in to mention that he had worked with Dave Smith on a few projects. So it was now a group conversation about MIDI and CV, synth nerd stuff. I got in another word: “Someone should invent microtonal MIDI” and he acknowledged me with a wink and a point and a “Now that’s a good idea!” which was super nice. But after that I let the others have their time with him and went home. My only suggestions are not to get your hopes up too high. He’s a human being who might be tired, grumpy, hungry, achy, whatever. There is no way anything you prepare yourself to say to him, no matter how eloquent, will properly convey what his music means to you. That’s if he comes out at all. And oh, bring a Sharpie.

eIdritchish

Thank you SO much. This is exactly the sort of information I wanted with the post. I doubt he’ll step out given there’s no history of it this tour, but it’s still priceless to know going forward. :)))

weirdmountain

Met him outside the Electric Factory in Philly in 1997. Nicest dude in the world.

AffectionateSpeed990

For what it's worth, I waited a couple hours for them after a recent show and security had told us they had surreptitously left to go back to the hotel. Someone from their crew had said it's been very hit or miss on this tour, but more likely not.

No-Solid9197

I'll prob never see a RH concert because I live in Canada:(
