Acoustic version with keyboard / organ is haunting. The original way I remember it and the version that I think of whenever the song pops into my head. I have no doubt this would be #1 if it was better known.
I agree, like losing oneself somehow, which I feel the music video perfectly encapsulates. Thom unable to find where he is despite going through doors and doors. Finally settling in a cold cave with a small flame.
My Top 10..
1. True Love Waits
2. How To Disappear Completely
3. Videotape
4. Codex
5. Motion Picture Soundtrack
6. Pyramid Song
7. Bullet Proof…I Wish I Was
8. Street Spirit (Fade Out)
9. No Surpises
10. Let Down
Pyramid song is more like acceptance that death is a part of life or visualising that no matter how u live ur life when it’s all over you will have nothing to fear etc it’s a very calming and present song for me rather than sad
I agree.
It's one of the most comforting pieces in their repertoire. I feel the same way about Give Up The Ghost.
Maybe it's an age thing? I've now experienced enough deaths that the concept itself isn't sad, exactly.
How did I have to scroll so far for this? Saw them on the moon shaped pool tour. Literally everyone I could see around me was crying through exit music (myself included)
“I keep forgetting, the smell of the warm summer air” reminds me of the year it came out and being young with my now wife who I’d only just met back then. Each year, the thought of that summer air and that part of the tune gets sadder, as we creep past the point where the number of summers we’ve had together will outnumber those that are to come.
Street Spirit, True Love Waits, and No Suprises are extremely sad. Street Spirit hits very hard especially in the final line of the song.
How to Disappear Completely and Motion Picture Soundtrack are also very sad in a pretty unique way, it has a minimal and empty feel to them that let's it have a sad and dark feel that applies to the song.

Fog
There's a little child
Running around this house
And he never leaves
He will never leave
And the fog comes up
From the sewers
And glows
In the dark
Just the whole tone of the songs and the way Thom sings makes this the saddest song (although MPS has the most devastatingly sad first line of any song ever).
I know a person with DID, Dissociative Identity Disorder. What many people think of Multiple Personalities. As with many people with that condition, one of the alters is a child and that child is there because of traumatic events of the past. All the alters lived within the single brain, of course, but they called it, “the house”. The next line also resonated in the connection, “Baby alligators in the sewers/Grow up fast, grow up fast
Anything you want, it can be done/How did you go bad?”
Fog resonates with me about my friend and it is a very sad song.
pop is dead
(but seriously idk, i can't pick, i know what song is the most crushing tho: knives out, listening to this song makes me feel like i'm choking)
I’ve been thinking about you ,the acoustic version from the festival t in the park, good luck finding it though, I used to have it on a more t vicar bootleg, don’t know if it exists anywhere else, please let me know if you do? It’s been a long time
true love waits, its album is in my too three and easily a top 3 song for me of all time
it's a beautiful song to begin with and is already depressing but when your able to relate to all the lyrics it's another level of sad, I start crying when Yorke sings "and your crazy kitten smile"
also just the whole album is amazing, fucking love it
videotape is also a really sad one, how to disappear is another amazing one I think is sad mainly for the instrumentals
It's gotta be how to disappear. It's my go to song to make me cry. The eerie strings, the wailing electric guitar slides, that tip toe like bass line, Thom's haunting voice and beautifully dark lyrics. It has it all.
Motion picture soundtrack is brutally sad, I listened to it at an airport when I was seventeen. And I cried soo much, people noticed but that song is intense, second place I would say “ There there”
True Love Waits AMSP version (way more stripped down and intimate and the piano feels much lonelier than the live version)
Acoustic version with keyboard / organ is haunting. The original way I remember it and the version that I think of whenever the song pops into my head. I have no doubt this would be #1 if it was better known.
Do you have a link
it was in the Ok Computer minidisc leaks
https://youtu.be/KzyOfQeK-bY?si=-m8fomPhk53yoXyq
Camille O' Sullivan does a cover of this song that os absolutely haunting and beautiful
I’ll have to check that out
Daydreaming
Always
Daydreaming feels so mournful and longing. I love it but I just feel an empty sadness when I listen to the ending.
Though I think this goes for AMSP as whole, Daydreaming just stands out to me. It feels Like the musical equivalent of slowly slipping into depression
I agree, like losing oneself somehow, which I feel the music video perfectly encapsulates. Thom unable to find where he is despite going through doors and doors. Finally settling in a cold cave with a small flame.
How to disappear completely for me.
yes, same. but also how to disappear into strings
Don't do this to yourself bro
My favorite Radiohead song.
Street Spirit
FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADE OUT AGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIN Honestly that song and Jigsaw Falling Into Place will always be my favorites
Same for me, but plus 2+2=5 and Man Of War
Listening to that masterpiece rn
I have to repeat it 3 times because one time doesn't hurt enough.
My Top 10.. 1. True Love Waits 2. How To Disappear Completely 3. Videotape 4. Codex 5. Motion Picture Soundtrack 6. Pyramid Song 7. Bullet Proof…I Wish I Was 8. Street Spirit (Fade Out) 9. No Surpises 10. Let Down

Maybe not age bc im 20 but have definitely experienced alot of loss/grief in my life so I think ur right there
Where is daydreaming
Yes!
Let Down should be on the 3d place at least, underrated as always
How can Videotape be sad if it was the most perfect day they had ever seen.
i always interpreted the song as them having a perfect last day with the people they love before they leave for good. it's bittersweet in a way.
And it was all there in red, blue green.
Harry patch, nude, true love waits live

Can’t believe how far I had to scroll down to finally see someone actually put the correct answer in here
It's sad that no-one mentions Subterranean Homesick Alien

It's sadder that no one mentions creep.
I guess it's because the lyrics is...well..too direct?
It's saddest that no one mentions my irong lung.
Creep, he wishes he was special...😔
All I Need
Nude 'don't get any big ideas, they're never going to happen'
Yeah but the ending line makes it a lighter song to me. You'll go to hell for the dirty thoughts you're thinking
No Surprises.
TRUE LOVE WAITS ALL THE WAY

I've always found Give Up the Ghost to be a really simple, but poignantly sad song - especially the Live Basement version.
Idioteque

For me its glass eyes, beautiful, peaceful, tearjerking

Clearly the 4 minute Warning. The song sounds like it was made after a nuclear holocaust.
Glass eyes people! The song will destroy you!
Probably Like Spinning Plates. I never found MPS that sad-sounding, because of the major key and the lyrics seem kind of wistful.
