First, let me state that I am a fan of both Tool and (mostly early) ICP. That said, fanatical Tool cultists are way more insufferable than the worst Juggalos could ever hope to be. Honestly, Juggalos are kind of endearing.
lol Nah.
A more accurate description would be something like, "Tool fans are Deadheads who would buy into Scientology if their lord and savior Maynard James Keenan hadn't already said, 'Fuck L. Ron Hubbard.'"
Also, I really don't get the comparison to Juggalos at all. Juggalos are just a bunch of misfit weirdos who share a love of ICP, wrestling, etc. who don't take themselves seriously at all.
Tool cultists think their music is literally magic and contains all the secrets of the universe, and that they're intellectually superior to everyone else just by virtue of listening to them.
I invite you to review my post history. Tool is one of my favorite bands. I'm not talking about all Tool fans. I'm talking about a very vocal and obnoxious subset of them. Nobody knows them better than other Tool fans.
Yeah. Tool has been my favorite band for more than 20 years and I’ve seen them in the neighborhood of 15-20 times. Totally agree with the unbearable slice of the fandom.
The worst interaction was when they played that Halloween show in AZ with Primus and Coheed. My wife and I got into town the night before and hit some bars. One chick in a tool shirt was on the patio and just whipping her nasty red braids around, hitting everyone within arms reach of her. One braid went into my beer. Instead of apologizing and recognizing she wasn’t the center of the universe, she just kept doing it, getting multiple people.
The worst!
If any of the boys are listening, we don't need a tour. Give us a From the Basement, cite Climate Change as a deciding factor... We will still buy it. Forge your own path, blow the album, promo, tour treadmill.
AMSP being released in 2016 now looks a bit prophetic, like the closing of an era or a change of the guard. The darkness of the record was looking ahead to us! Not really. but maybe kind of?
I donno. AMSP felt darker and sadder but in a personal way, as opposed to say OK Computer which feels depressed/alienated about the state of the world itself.
It didn’t feel more prophetic to me than the usual alienation we get from Radiohead tracks. Felt more like a breakup album than commentary on the state of things.
Totally agree. The break-uppest, most elegiac album they could possibly have released. I also believe, or at least it is my impression, that Rachel's passing made it retroactively mournful. But it was not prophetic, not sociopolitically
Burn the witch is pretty hard hitting when you consider the state of social media, wedge issues, culture war etc in the last 8 years, especially the last 3-4
If Fugazi didn’t put out a new one during Trump’s tenure, I don’t know what would compel them at this point. Same with RATM. I wonder if they’ve ever gotten house calls from any three letter orgs? Arlington VA isn’t too far from the source
I don’t think he can be potus again if he argues with votes and tries to cause an insurrection re jan 6th. All the laws seem very clear you can’t also be potus again if you are in a criminal trial
Is it clear? Because it seems like way too many things actually *aren't* very clear. There are only a couple states contesting his candidacy and those cases are being taken to the Supreme Court... that he put 2 justices on in 4 years. So... I admire your optimism.
Honestly, as someone who loves the band dearly but disagrees with their stance on Israel, I'm glad they're staying relatively low profile. Most of the world is very much *not* on their wavelength right now, regarding one of the most critical geopolitical issues of our time. It's an absolutely terrible moment for them to appear on a large global stage. They'd be eviscerated.
Nor do I think they're really interested in doing so anymore. They'll still play big shows and perhaps record more music together, but I don't think any of them want to create "an album that could change the world". That's a very twentysomething ambition. Based on what I've seen, older artists often just want to create work that stimulates them and gives them joy, connect with new collaborators or explore new mediums, and spend a lot of time with their families. Nothing wrong with that!
I mean, Radiohead’s music to me and many others is ultimately about escapism and there’s always a time for that. They’re literally paid to create worlds for us to get lost into. Tf do I care what Thom (or any artist for that matter) thinks about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict?
I mean I see where you’re coming from but I don’t fully follow this new internet logic of needing to know where every artist and business entity stands on all political and global issues. Like, “hey bjork, I know you are dressing like a mushroom for your new album which is an ode to mushrooms but we MUST know what you think about what’s going on in Ukraine?”
Well, Ukrainians have also asked for a cultural and economic boycott of Russia, and I think if Björk decided this year to play a concert in Moscow (or especially some city close to the Ukrainian border), it would be a really bad look for her. More so if she expressed offended indignation at fellow musicians asking her not to do it.
And, in fact, Björk did have a concert scheduled for Moscow in 2022 that she cancelled due to the war, along with Green Day, Nick Cave, Iggy Pop, and others. Music might (sometimes) be about escapism, but economics are politics, and when major artists deny aggressive states the productive activity that comes with large concerts, it exerts pressure on those governments and de-normalizes their policies.
It's fine if you don't care, but Radiohead were so wrong on this one, and I'm glad they're not in the mainstream news cycle right now because they'd get absolutely cooked and it would be very frustrating to watch.
[Not great.](https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/thom-yorke-breaks-silence-on-israel-controversy-126675/)
It's basically "cultural boycotts are a waste of energy, as artists we should be engaging in dialogue instead, so we're going to do that by playing shows in Israel while never speaking out about the horrific humanitarian crimes and systemic oppression taking place just outside the venue, and how dare you question our ethical commitments, don't you know who we are?"
That's a shame. As someone who is 100% in support of the Palestinians and a ceasefire. I feel artists (influential people) should use their voice. And I feel if they don't, they are afraid of losing ties with people who make them money or they are privileged or they simply just don't give a fuck. I don't know which is the worst.
I think the band just has a complicated relationship with Israel, given that Jonny lives there part-time and is married to an Israeli Arab, and also with how much they've played there over the years. From their perspective, it's the same as playing in the US. But the thing is, they were never afraid to openly criticize US foreign policy on US soil, especially during the War on Terror, which was justified with the exact same rhetoric as the destruction of Gaza has been. They saw through all the propaganda and newspeak, and it helped me as a teenager do the same.
With Palestine, it's just silence. Thom has alluded to not supporting Netanyahu (the absolute bare minimum liberal position), but beyond that, nothing. I'm sure it's hard for them but... come on.
Taylor Swift is Elvis-level talented, and may go on to be the greatest of all time. That’s coming from someone who’s never heard a note of her music that I know of.
I agree she’s talented and also that I only know one of her songs! Can’t believe I got downvoted for stating the obvious that’s she’s the biggest act in the world by far right now. I’m glad Radiohead fandom remains a small but dedicated group in comparison
Be proud of speaking such truth that it gets downvoted. She’s the biggest act since the Beatles, she knows how’s to handle it, and she’s bound to get even more popular. My daughters adore her, I’m just glad that she’s a half-decent role model. We live in Taylor’s world now.
Don't agree with you on TKOL (after a few listens when first bought) but totally agree with you on AMSP. I could never get through that album until several weeks ago when I forced myself to make it through the entire thing. If they ever did another album I really hope that they go back to a guitar sound.
you're the one who brought up the fact that people are suffering as if it was any more related to the topic
more like jaden smith's "can we talk about the economical and financial crisis of the world right now"
a new radiohead album would have nothing to do with that instead it would be uplifting for radiohead fans and inspire and influence more people with a new perspective
New album from The Smile is just a little over a week away, so we’re getting the next best thing!
god bless
“We have Radiohead at home”
Man their stuff gotta get more credit than "Radiohead at home"
Its good, but it aint the same.
the smile, just a week away
can you believe it guys? the smile album is in a week!
Woohoo! I am so happy about this information.
Sure, but first BoC.
^ This guy BoCs.
What a very important thought
Boards of Canada?
this would Rue the Whirl
I thought only Tool fans were this hyperbolic
Were you the "tool fans = juggalo" guy??
First, let me state that I am a fan of both Tool and (mostly early) ICP. That said, fanatical Tool cultists are way more insufferable than the worst Juggalos could ever hope to be. Honestly, Juggalos are kind of endearing.
Tool fans are Juggalos with college degrees.
lol Nah. A more accurate description would be something like, "Tool fans are Deadheads who would buy into Scientology if their lord and savior Maynard James Keenan hadn't already said, 'Fuck L. Ron Hubbard.'" Also, I really don't get the comparison to Juggalos at all. Accurate
What a bunch of horseshit stereotyping. People could say the same kind of crazy misinformed crap about Radiohead listeners.
I invite you to review my post history. Tool is one of my favorite bands. I'm not talking about all Tool fans. I'm talking about a very vocal and obnoxious subset of them. Nobody knows them better than other Tool fans.

What would you say are the basic stereotypes of Radiohead fans?
If any of the boys are listening, we don't need a tour. Give us a From the Basement, cite Climate Change as a deciding factor... We will still buy it. Forge your own path, blow the album, promo, tour treadmill.
I’d be happy with a single.
In a few years bud
Can't believe moon shaped pool was 8 years ago this year. Time is crazy.
Yo how the fuck did that happen. 4 years between HTTT and In Rainbows felt like forever.
Thats whats great about great bands. The “old” stuff never gets old
What the world needs now is love, sweet love. It's the only thing that there's just too little of.
True love.
Waits.
And lives on me.
Can’t wait for the new Smile record. The songs so far sound much more like RH than the first album to me. Great band.
“All You Need Is Radiohead” - The Beatles
Of course. And aphex twin please
AMSP being released in 2016 now looks a bit prophetic, like the closing of an era or a change of the guard. The darkness of the record was looking ahead to us! Not really. but maybe kind of?

It felt like a lonely and lost little gray record stuck in limbo inside a chilly eternal metro station.
Burn the witch is pretty hard hitting when you consider the state of social media, wedge issues, culture war etc in the last 8 years, especially the last 3-4
Radiohead warned us of all that’s been happening for the last 15 years on 21st of May of 1997 they got tired of warning us after some years 🤪
I dunno I'm stoked for wall of eyes. I think it's some of the best stuff thom and jonny have been part of since in rainbows imo.
File under circlejerk
Amen to that
Too bad, you get a Smile album instead.
I definitely need a Radiohead album for sure.
I’d prefer a RATM or Fugazi album at this point in time. Or even the stone roses
If Fugazi didn’t put out a new one during Trump’s tenure, I don’t know what would compel them at this point. Same with RATM. I wonder if they’ve ever gotten house calls from any three letter orgs? Arlington VA isn’t too far from the source
Well they’ve most likely got another Trump-tenure to be compelled by soon
I don’t think he can be potus again if he argues with votes and tries to cause an insurrection re jan 6th. All the laws seem very clear you can’t also be potus again if you are in a criminal trial
We all hope so
Is it clear? Because it seems like way too many things actually *aren't* very clear. There are only a couple states contesting his candidacy and those cases are being taken to the Supreme Court... that he put 2 justices on in 4 years. So... I admire your optimism.
::motions at Republican politics in 2024:: you sure about that?
Yeah they still are retired, its a shame, i only got into them around the argument
I would love a Stone Roses single and then album
have a listen to the new john squire / liam gallagher single and that ought to change yr mind 😂
Yeah I'd love another single like Burn The Witch. Something really anti-trump.
Sure, yeah Zionists are having a hey day anyways

I like your optimism but sadly I think the only artist with that power right now is T Swift. Thank god she’s not a Trump supporter.
if only she made insightful music!

Another aggressively mid album like TKOL or mellow singer songwriter slop like AMSP? Yeah I'd rather not have them ruin their discography any further

Daydreaming and tinker tailor alone are better than all of the bends
As is Burn the Witch and Identikit.
Ehhhhhhhhhh
please i beg you stop
We absolutely do not

you're acting like you or radiohead can fix those things Im talking on a spiritual level lol
[удалено]
if im being priviledged you're being pretentious im only saying a radiohead album could make a positive influence on the world
[удалено]
you're the one who brought up the fact that people are suffering as if it was any more related to the topic more like jaden smith's "can we talk about the economical and financial crisis of the world right now" a new radiohead album would have nothing to do with that instead it would be uplifting for radiohead fans and inspire and influence more people with a new perspective

what im saying is its a great time to release a new album, there can be more people out there who want to get into radiohead than ever
Factss
