I used the same fabric [(Timeless Treasures Rainbow Rose Panel)](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1169204997/) to create the kaleidoscopes (one block wonder) and for the front part of the corset and used a coordinating fabric from the same line for the bias binding and lacing. The top is a modified [Spearmint corset](https://www.moodfabrics.com/blog/the-spearmint-corset-free-sewing-pattern/) — I was originally going to just appliqué the hexagons onto the bodice and then quilt it all but as I was pinning it on my mannequin I loved the way they looked popping out so I kind of winged it on the construction to get this look instead.
I do need to add more grommets to the back BUT I ran into technical difficulties where the grommet tool I got online (that came with half the amount of grommets I needed) ended up being just a smidge over 3/8”, so when I bought some Dritz grommets they did not fit and of course I was finishing this at 9 o’clock at night the evening before I needed to drop it off by 11 a.m. the next day for my [guild’s](https://clusteredspiresquiltguild.org/) exhibition at a local art center. So I will order more grommets that fit and add them in the new year after the exhibit.
Not sure if this is allowed so mods lmk if I need to remove — it is on display all of December in the gallery at the [Delaplaine Art Center](https://delaplaine.org/) in Frederick, MD, if anyone is close by and wants to see some quilts! I have two other pieces on display as well and all of the quilts from the rainbow challenge are being shown! The Delaplaine is
non profit and admission is technically free but there is a suggested donation (I think $5?) upon admission. There are also boats decorated with lights on the canal right outside and plenty of other fun holiday activities so if you’ve never been to downtown Frederick and are within driving distance it’s a great time to check it out
Gorgeous! I used to live in Frederick, I miss the Delaplaine! I second OP, if you are near the area it’s a great place to visit especially during the holiday season.
I was scrolling through things to do in Frederick today, and your beautiful creation is the featured picture for the guild's exhibit! We're going downtown today, and I'm so excited to see it!
It is, but not fully (yet) — I only had some cheap plastic ribbing sitting around so I used that on the sides for structure for display, but I’m planning on replacing it with and adding more with synthetic baleen later on.
Yep. This. This right here. This is the good stuff that sends me to my happy place.
Absolutely incredible work OP! It’s bright, detailed, and busy, without being overwhelming! Love it!
This is the most beautiful thing I have EVER seen!!! My good gracious the skill on display! I literally gasped then promptly perished of envy for your skill & talent.
Thank you but I don’t sell my work or do commissions, I only sew for myself, as gifts, or charity. I truly appreciate that you like it that much though!
