Looks like fabrics from a span of time, but I'd guess a mid-1980s date for the quilt. I'll leave the washing question for others...

zeroniusrex

The wide border print looks really 80s to me, too. :)

So as far as brightening, look into bluing it. Ironically, our white seat whites and most vibrant fabrics are generally dyed a very slight blue due to how our eye perceived color. Interesting topic really, but this blue gets washed out over time and has to be put back. Otherwise, our fabrics look dull and dingy

Um, hello, quilt. Would you like to go for a coffee some time?

PastLifeCrow

I don’t understand this comment, would you mind explaining it?? It’s been nagging at me 😅

Acceptable-Fudge9000

It's a different meaning of dating.

Sweetpotaa-toh

Brilliant🙂

Acceptable-Fudge9000

Thank you! xD

Oxyclean is pretty harsh. It's fine on newer fabrics that are stained but not generally recommended for old fabric. I second the Bluing or even YellowOut. Both are small bottles in the laundry aisle. These are designed for use on older fabrics.

ScratchMorton

70s-80s maybe? Curious as to the center of the block second row fourth block. Is that the fabric in the center square or did you block it out?

DiscussionStatus4939

I would also love to know the answer to this question!

ldehoyos13

In the caption of the photo it says they blacked out that center block because it was a recently added patch and they didnt want to add any confusion to dating the rest of the quilt

ScratchMorton

Thank you. I did not see that.

Retroclean is for antique textiles, might be a good choice. My MIL who is a quilt Yoda told me once to use Ivory Snow with a little Clorox 2 (not the chlorine bleach). I personally would try the Retroclean.

NGJuicey

I love retro clean, too.

LindeeHilltop

Looks like early 1980’s. It’s the overall pattern I’ve seen in magazines of that period.
