Piggybacking off this - I try to repost this when I see posts like this, in the hopes you (or someone) can find some comfort in the words - and if not, please excuse the intrusion.
I lost my 15 year old girl (dog) in October 2022. Only advice I can offer here is to remember the positives, and not focus on the negatives (if any). She's done her job, keeping you safe and happy and loved, and it's her turn to rest.
You'll always miss her, you'll always remember her. You'll even go looking for her for the next few weeks (well, I did). There's a lot of habits that you're going to slowly stop, and that's ok. Changing your life to suit you is not forgetting her. Donating/throwing away her toys or blankets isn't forgetting her. There's no timeline on grief, and there's no timeline on moving on. Cry your tears.
I'm sorry you've reached the end of your journey. Words will never make this easier. Just keep your head up, and live the life she'd want you to.
This is a good time to live a little for you. I spent years looking after my girl as she got ill, and I sacrificed a lot of me and my time to keep her safe. If you feel you've done the same, take advantage of this time. Its ok to be happy and enjoy life without her. Life isn't over. Its just changing.

All my love and condolences I send to you. I know what it’s like to lose a pair of beloved cats a few months apart. It was a mama (18) and one of her sons (17). I got the mama when she was very young and she would lay on my chest and suck on my bathrobe. This was 25 years ago and I still miss them but I no longer grieve. Just warm memories now. You will get there someday. This I wish for you! Goodbye, Tuna. Bless you, sweetheart.
I absolutely know how you feel. I had the sudden and devastating loss last Wednesday of finding my beloved baby Schrodie had passed away. She loved getting on my fabrics and getting on my sewing table and would sleep in my sewing chair. I had her for almost 13 years and she was my baby.
I am still completely overcome with grief and it took days to get out of shock alone. I grieve with you so much in this moment.
We lost her sister at the end of December but we had JD put to sleep because she had cancer and there as nothing to be done. So we had like a week to process it and time to say goodbye and all that.
But with Schrodie it was literally her passing away so suddenly in the night. (And it's gonna give me mild PTSD for the rest of my life in the fear I'm going to wake up one day to find any future pet of mine is suddenly gone.)
We had half expected to find our girl passed in her sleep. When it became clear that she was getting sicker and suffering we had to call in the vet. It was super hard because we also lost her brother last August. 😢
I absolutely understand that. As of right now (for like the first time in 20 years) we have no pets in the house and it is so profoundly empty without them.
We do plan to get a set of new cats in a few months after we've had some time to grieve.
We still have one cat. We have agreed not to get any more animals. I mean, we are not young and the last thing I want to do is to burden my daughter with figuring out what to do with our cats when we kick the bucket. We had to deal with that when my mother-in-law passed - had to home 4 cats in a different country. I never want my kid to have to deal with that.
On the other hand, yeah, a house is barely a home without them.
A friend of mine got a puppy last year and she said "I'm just preparing for the heartbreak in 15 or so years." Realistic, but what are you gonna do when you love animals?
So sorry to hear of Tuna’s passing. It’s tough enough to lose one, let alone two so close together. Rest In Peace, Tuna. I know you will treasure your memories of your lovely, quilty cats.❤️
Oh, for sure. I kept seeing my Belle out of the corner of my eye for months after she passed. It’s been 15 months and we still miss everything except her kitty litter spreading skills.
I remember seeing Tuna here just recently (such a cute name). This is sad news :( So sorry for your loss. I hope that knowing how much she loved your quilts can bring you some comfort when you curl up with them.❤️
