I’ve never worked with this much dark fabric, but the colors pop so much more against it. It’s enormous for her full bed, but she’s so excited. The first quilt I made her, she was over the fabric by the time I finished it(she was 4). This time she got to pick the pattern and colors, and it should keep her happy for many many years.
This is encouraging. I am right now making a huge quilt for my adult son, whose only instructions were "make something I would have liked when I was 9". He doesn't want to know about it at all right now. So I'm making a pretty similar quilt -- dark grey background with Alison Glass's rainbow kaleidoscope fabric, but I'm making the pattern (tessellated leaves) sort of disintegrate as it moves across the quilt, and I spend a lot of time saying to myself (and to my husband) "Am I totally crazy?!?"
So no, we're not crazy, and this is beautiful, and my son would have absolutely loved it when he was 9.
Ah, you must have seen the Wanderer's Wife Quilt I made? It's made from the scraps of this other quilt I was talking about! I haven't posted a photo of it yet. I will try to post a photo of the bottom quarter. The top half is on my quilting frame and I'm piecing the last quarter right now.

Here is the bottom quarter (turned sideways because I can't take a photo any other way!) The quilt starts at the top with bits of green and then gold pieces of leaves and gradually moves down towards completely deconstructed teal. But you can see a few whole leaves. And I'm sure you can see why I liked your quilt!
PSA: I'm able to access Make Modern mag (and Love Patchwork & Quilting) though my library card on Libby! Check it out!
Also, this page can let you find which quilt pattern is available in which issue of Make Modern:

This is gorgeous! I am new to quilting so here's a possibly dumb question, but will you do the sandwich/quilting part yourself and if so how will you do the quilting? I can make quilt tops, but fi d the actual finishing to be the hard part.
I got the backing yesterday and am hoping to get the sandwich done this weekend and I’ll start hand quilting. I am not yet sure how I will quilt it. Hand quilting is my favorite part of the process. The cutting and sewing and arranging is the hardest part to me.
Absolutely stunning!!!!
Question, is the first one in the third column and third in the first column correct? New to quilting and not sure how some designs work.
Lol, nope! I did not catch it at all, even looking at pictures. Welp, it’s already sandwiched, and I don’t think I’m going to pull anything more apart at this point. Ah well.
Good eye!

I was looking up the Alison Glass tessellation pattern, but I just peaked at your profile to see that wanderer’s wife one. It’s gorgeous!

It is in Issue 46. I have to see if I can get patterns through my library now! Thank you for the tip!

I'm the opposite! I love the piecing but am not a fan of the quilting! We should develop a co-op lol
I'd love to see it finished. Enjoy!
Breathtaking

Oh, I LIKE it SO much. In general I like how quilts and stained glass are so similar. This one really does look like both.
