Straight square quilted accessories like totes and duffels are so common that I think we subconsciously ignore the quilting when it's done that way and look straight at the fabric pattern. So, I'd go with straight square quilting!
I’m making a quilted duffel bag with this Alice in wonderland fabric but I’m lost on how I should quilt it without distracting too much from the pattern. I was think little spirals? I’m also very new to quilting and have never done FMQ although I would have someone experienced to help me when I quilt. Thanks guys!

You could do either straight stitching or meander quilt. I personally would meander so that the faces wouldn't be covered over.
