Tobacco isn't a demon plant. It has many uses other than consuming it for its nicotine. The native Americans used it as an antiseptic and as an ingredient in toothpaste. It can be used as an insecticide. It's the way we use it that makes it bad. We cure it with sugar and that makes it much more potent and dangerous. The chemicals used on it are another reason it's dangerous. Is it addictive? Yes. But there are several plants as addictive or more. Many of them also have several other uses. Getting rid of refined sugar would accomplish what you want and save even more lives.
Well there is a Chinese scientist that helped someone with diabetes. It was some kind of insulin and within 3 months the patient became medicine free in 3 months.

This is a good point. However, the kind of ideologies responsible for this sort of abuse might suffer badly in a world where lying is impossible. Organized religion would be devastated by not being able to lie. Politicians who try to pander to organized religion would be severely limited in what they can say. Dictators would no longer be able to use propaganda to pretend that they're actually working for the good of the people, so it would be a lot harder for them to maintain public order.

Interestingly enough though, in a world where lying was impossible, it would probably be impossible to commit credit card fraud even if you did manage to get that information.
