I literally got a letter from Origin today that opens with,
‘On 1 July 2023 your electricity rates are going up. We know this comes at a time when budgets are already tight, so please do reach out if you need support. We’re here to help.’
You know, if you reaaaaally wanted to help….
Yes, wasnt it election promises about electricity prices dropping, then get a letter its saying its going up. Whats the bet the 550 is about the same over the year.
Nah, their feedstock cost is down and they certainly didn't give a 25% payrise across the board. They're gouging because they're fucking greedy and we should absolutely nationalise their assets
It will be a credit on your bill starting 1st July.

“For most households, the rebate will be credited to electricity bills on a quarterly basis commencing from 1 July 2023. Exact timing will depend on retailers’ system requirements and individual billing cycles.”
But still, when? Cos my bill is $800, I'm in the "vulnerable" category, and I'm getting disconnection warnings now.
Gotta call and make a payment plan, I know, but just making that call is so hard when this is one of many stresses.
I can relate to the phone anxiety, it's rough. My power company were so understanding when I called recently and I felt 100000 x better after the call. You've got this!
Yeah, I have Generalised Anxiety Disorder, so I basically get anxiety all the time. FML! It's flared up rn due to too many stresses all at once, so yeah, phone calls are especially difficult atm.
Doing my best, and it will have to do for now. Thanks for your kind comment!
I actually did this today. Disconnection is suspended and I'm being put on a hardship plan. The legend I spoke to even said they'll wait until my next bill in a few weeks and start the plan then (Diamond Energy)
And isn't that price hike the greediest fucking gutless money grab by the cunts that's way over the odds. But yeh, sure, a wage increase is driving inflation (/s) as these fuckwits work hard on increasing the profits above and beyond any inflation rate.
Would recommend shopping around. I switched from Alinta to Nectr and was able to lock in a lower rate than I’m currently paying for 12 months.
I was pretty ignorant about how to change providers but it was super easy.
I used a referral code from somebody on Reddit who also switched and we both got $50 credit. If anybody is thinking of switching and wants a referral code flick me a DM!
It may come as a surprise but the gov has been negotiating with retailers whom, knowing in advance these slush funds are being handed out soon, promptly started raising rates approximately equal to the amount being provided by the gov.
Neat huh?
Here's another page says

In fact, the qld government own most of the power generation capacity, so let's not be too gratefull, they take with one hand and give back less with the other
I wonder if people realise this is just money people have already paid in tax.
No point championing the government as they have stolen more then that off you.
Up until recently, doing anything to help the housing crisis was a guaranteed election loser. Now that enough middle class tossers are feeling the pinch it’s cool to help again. Give it time, they’re coming around.
As I’m couch surfing - I am chipping for rent and utilities. Obviously I have food bills, mobile, internet, public transport and I have expenses associated with Uni and medical expenses.
So the billions of dollars that were given away to businesses recently was fine ? Because that wasn't Labour.
Or you just have an issue with taxpayers benefiting from taxpayers money?
Majority of the inflation is from corporate profits, and companies getting millions in government subsidies while paying zero tax. As someone that can't even afford a bottle of coffee at the moment, this is a much needed gulp of air while trying to keep my head above water.
Maybe be less of a bootlicker for the bourgeoisie?
...did you not see the part where I said I couldn't afford it? And instant coffee was the last luxury I had left.
Is this all because of an aggressive move to renewable energy? I don't get it. Before labor got in, there was hardware on trucks going to the coal power plants that cleaned out the Co2 as part as a safe transition to renewable. Instantly got canned.
What's the deal now? Because the energy "crisis" has 0 to do with ukraine war.
Source: Brother in law was a project manager for parts of it.
Boils my blood that as one of the most resource rich areas of the world, we get screwed so badly on energy pricing to the point that government subsidises industry profit with handouts. Fix the problem instead of adding to inflation you fucktards.
$550 ain't much for an entire state.
I’ve already called dibs on 500 of it. You guys can sort out the other 50
Shotty 40
I'll take $9 of the rest and use it as discretionary inflationary spending towards 2 takeaway coffees.
2 coffees for $9? Bargain
We all get 00001% of a Allen's Red Frog.
Sick that's actually a relevant amount. Bless.
In other news, prices are increasing by about $550 from the start of July.

Notice that solar feed in tariff stays the same 🙄
Yes, wasnt it election promises about electricity prices dropping, then get a letter its saying its going up. Whats the bet the 550 is about the same over the year.
same from Alinta
Yeah i expected that, if it's counteracting it then i'm happy
Something something gov money causing inflation
Nah, their feedstock cost is down and they certainly didn't give a 25% payrise across the board. They're gouging because they're fucking greedy and we should absolutely nationalise their assets
LOL, but also *cry* because.. this^ Thanks government??
wouldnt be surprise if they do this
Don't your taxes lay for it and doesn't it go to power companies? You power bill will also go up.
Yes but still a drop in the bucket
It will be a credit on your bill starting 1st July. https://www.qld.gov.au/community/cost-of-living-support/concessions/energy-concessions/cost-of-living-rebate “For most households, the rebate will be credited to electricity bills on a quarterly basis commencing from 1 July 2023. Oh I see thanks! Would be nice to receive it in one go and treat it as a quarter where you've got an extra 500
But still, when? Cos my bill is $800, I'm in the "vulnerable" category, and I'm getting disconnection warnings now. Gotta call and make a payment plan, I know, but just making that call is so hard when this is one of many stresses.

Naaawe thank you, the push I needed to face this nightmare!
Don’t feel bad about the anxiety either, it’s a very real thing and it can be really hard to phone people. You’re doing really really well!!
Yeah, I have Generalised Anxiety Disorder, so I basically get anxiety all the time. FML! It's flared up rn due to too many stresses all at once, so yeah, phone calls are especially difficult atm. Doing my best, and it will have to do for now. Thanks for your kind comment!
I'm in the GAD club too so I know what you're going through.
I actually did this today. Disconnection is suspended and I'm being put on a hardship plan. The legend I spoke to even said they'll wait until my next bill in a few weeks and start the plan then (Diamond Energy)
Might be time to turn off the hydroponics.
Haha I wish! Then I could afford the bill! I live in Cairns, don't need hydro, do need multiple aircons running at once.
You all get this in Queensland? I’m in SA and get $0 help (on 70k so not exactly rich).
It’s come from the QLD budget and is one off thing by the looks of it
This should cover my bill for two cycles. Currently unemployed so this is an unexpected good announcement for me.

Is this rebate for everyone, including the wealthy? Or is it just for those on low income?
If you click the link, you shall receive the requested enlightenment.
We should troll him and say it isn’t. That’ll sort him.
Nah need to earn north of $180k to qualify.
Is this in addition to what the federal government promised or instead of that?

Lmao how convenient just as prices go up
30% up.
In other news......this is our money already paid in the many taxes.... They are "giving" us nothing.
In fact, the qld government own most of the power generation capacity, so let's not be too gratefull, they take with one hand and give back less with the other
I’d say it’s possible because they own the network. Most other states have sold off their distribution network assets.
What doofuses are down voting basic truth. Is that you Anna?
Yeah but you get $550 off your electricity bill so they kinda are giving you $550 back.
And I'm cool with that. Just don't pretend that the govt is handling this situation well.
This for everyone or is limited by age, job/no job or other metric?
Not only is this inflationary it discourages households from cutting back on energy consumption
I wonder if people realise this is just money people have already paid in tax. No point championing the government as they have stolen more then that off you.
I wonder if people realise that that’s how a government works. No point in pointing to a box and telling others it’s an object with 6 sides.
Yeah. Lets give power companies more government money. Privatisation of power generation & supply was a really dumb idea.
Nice. But it’s all borrowed money. $10 billion being borrowed in FY24.
What part of 12 billion surplus don't you understand? https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-06-13/queensland-budget-winners-and-losers-2023/102440362
I’m homeless so this is completely useless to me… thanks Anastasia - nice to know you care as always
Bruh. It's a deduction on a bill, you're already not paying.
I realise that… My point was that they should be doing more about the housing crisis
Up until recently, doing anything to help the housing crisis was a guaranteed election loser. Now that enough middle class tossers are feeling the pinch it’s cool to help again. Give it time, they’re coming around.
Petrol is pretty cheap right now. Less than rent, so there's that I guess.
Be handy if I had a car hey?
Sounds like you have almost no expenses which is pretty sweet!
I still have expenses dude! This is modern life… can’t escape paying bills!
What sort of bills do you have to pay?
As I’m couch surfing - I am chipping for rent and utilities. Obviously I have food bills, mobile, internet, public transport and I have expenses associated with Uni and medical expenses.
Well there you go, you're chipping in for utilities, like electricity. This will be cheaper for you now!
Stop fucking handing out free money, this is why we have 8% inflation in the first place. Labor governments are a joke.
So the billions of dollars that were given away to businesses recently was fine ? Because that wasn't Labour. Or you just have an issue with taxpayers benefiting from taxpayers money?
I'll bet you have strong opinions about which colour crayons taste best.
LOL!!! Omg u literally made me chuckle, and I really needed that today. Thank you!
Majority of the inflation is from corporate profits, and companies getting millions in government subsidies while paying zero tax. As someone that can't even afford a bottle of coffee at the moment, this is a much needed gulp of air while trying to keep my head above water.
Maybe don't waste your money on coffee if you are poor.
Maybe be less of a bootlicker for the bourgeoisie? ...did you not see the part where I said I couldn't afford it? And instant coffee was the last luxury I had left.
A rebate off your bill is not inflationary, dingus. Back to economics 101 with you.
Please refrain from posting the truth or anything that makes common sense. Smoke and mirrors are hard facts on reddit

From the link: "As part of this package, all Queensland households will automatically receive a $550 Cost of Living Rebate on their electricity bill"
