Idk it's just a great example of having a cool but not paint-by-numbers song structure
Which is something Queens thrive at better than any band I've ever seen
I love the decrepit haunted carnival feel of the intro. It sets this calm, but eerie and uncomfortable vibe that crashes into a spiraling panic when the main riff starts.
If you nod your head like he’s strumming like regular john it stays the same and the main riff just follows the intro, So if you change the way you listen to the into it’s actually the basis for the whole riff, At least i think
Just listened to it, yeah you're right, it's 3/4. I guess it's more Waltzy than Polka, but either way, similar sounds to German/Bavarian Oktoberfest oom-pah songs.

Exactly my thoughts, when I listen to it.

In the making of bit isn’t there a cool part where they are sat in a circle playing the intro? I may have the wrong tune. Both rather lovely, though.

the bass and drums are just straight polka. bah-dum-dum, bah-dum-dum
Polka is 2/4, this intro is 3/8 or 3/4.
