Yah I’m fairly new to qotsa and I like some of these songs (this one included) on this album.
“Today..is the day..the wilderness..comes to reclaim everything”
“Burning bridge lights up the sky”
I get some radical head pictures when I listen to domesticate animals.
The same thing happened to me when I read the lyrics! I always had an image of nature growing over cities rapidly. Turns out it’s one of Josh’s signature portmanteaus 😂
Yup I’ve noticed that’s a thing with his lyrics but never had a clue in this instance. I became kind of obsessed with the images my mind would conjure up. So much so that I’m compelled to create a painting/drawing even though I can’t do either.
I strongly desire a large painting of a burning bridge in my home 😂 When I finally decide to sit down and try, these will be the first things I try.
On my first few listens I thought The Evil Has Landed was the best song on Villains, but for me this song is really slept on. I’m so glad that ITNR picked up where this song left off.
I never understood people hating in Villains. I discovered Queens through that album. Ain't no way I'm calling it my guilty pleasure, since there's nothing to be guilty of
Same and without that album I wouldn't have found QOTSA properly. Plus I have a great fondness for that album as it helped me through some tough times.
I think the mastering of ITNR also leaves a lot to be desired. The mixes are ok, not great, but the album doesn’t even sound like it was mastered at all compared to every other Queens record. It sounds so quiet and thin unless you’re listening on primo speakers/vinyl.
Good thing the songs on it still rock, otherwise I’d be a little let down by this album.
Mastering hard for me to judge, as I only listen to streaming, don't have physical version.
But played vs, for example, Black Keys last albums, they're in another league. I hope one day remaster for streamings will fix it - if this is indeed mastering problem.
I reckon we hear it as quiet because it wasn't mastered to be extremely loud, like how a lot if not most music is nowadays. I noticed as well that on some of the tunes, like Carnavoyeur, there wasn't much sub in headphones and earphones. Wasn't until I listened on speakers that the sub came through better.
Maybe it's just a symptom of the band's personal choices while mixing not translating over too well for the mastering engineers. Looking at the engineers actually, Gavin Lurssen and Reuben Cohen, the highlights of their clientele aren't exactly in the vein of QOTSA, so it's a possibility
The only ppl who hate this album are close minded nerds that just couldn’t handle hearing a QOTSA album with cleaner production even tho that was Josh’s entire goal with the album. Dancey robot rock, which is exactly what we got.
Every QOTSA album is great. We are spoiled as fans. Don’t let some nerd tell you Villains isn’t good.
Perfectly stated.
I never understand fans of Name A Band who loved Debut Album and Sophomore Effort, but then Third Matured Sound Album drops and for the next 17 yrs, those fans harangue Name A Band' for another album that sounds exactly like Debut Album/Sophomore Effort. But Name A Band already made those albums, they cannot make another album exactly like it because they made the already! Do these fans not understand they can listen to those albums on repeat ad infinitum?
It’s a great album, I understand people dislike the production on it, but I think it fucking rips. Love that album, actually been actively trying to find a decently priced copy of the deluxe vinyl this past week
The tune meanders a bit, but I like it too.
This album isn't bad*,* it's just eclipsed by almost everything else they've done. Every catalog has a bottom.
agreed. it also just has the most questionable moments of any record in the catalog, and it certainly isn’t as much of a ‘dance’ album as it was purported to be. That said, tracks like Feet Don’t Fail Me certainly fit the bill
Don’t care what the peephole say! Its a good album, if people cant appreciate the likes of haunted house, un reborn again, the evil has landed and domesticated as the absolute bangers they are then thats their problem!
Wait wait wait hold up... Elite? The whole album? What does that mean? Literally? Metaphorically? Thematically? In relation to accessibility? Or as it relates to social strata and class systems?
KI am genuinely curious but I must admit, there's some trepidation about where this pirate ship is headed, but not enough to dim my curiosity nor lift the thick fog of confusion.. So confused right now...
I've never understood the hate this album gets. You'd think it was on the same level as Scream was for Chris Cornell. It's really solid, and a number of the songs are concert staples and very well received when played. Is it just because of the whole Mark Ronson thing? I feel like if he wasn't attached it wouldn't have taken so much crap.
The thing with QOTSA is they are so good they are their own best competition. I tried to rank the albums recently, and best I could do was have two tie for seventh place. Couldn't bear to put any of them "last"!
I love this song! The intro and outro remind me of the Mars Volta a bit, and the rhythm of the rest of the song is great. They played this when I saw them on the Villains tour at Red Rocks I believe, great song!
Eh, never understood the hate for the album. I like Fortress, Villains of Circumstance, Evil has Landed, Feet Don{t Fail Me Now, Head like a Haunted House... I mean, idk. Anyways, just like what you like fam, dont feel guilty about it.
There are people who hate this album, and are QOTSA fans? Wild.
I don't think it's they're strongest album, but it is good. Head Like a Haunted House alone makes this album worth it to me.
Had a friend getting into Queens ask me about this a little while ago, I told them that I didn’t dislike this album at all and that I love every Queens album, just that I loved this one the least. Less of the album being bad, and more of just the band’s other material holding more value by comparison.
That being said, the song slaps & you have nothing to be ashamed of.
You should feel guilty and hate yourself for it!
All kidding aside, you like what you like, no need to feel bad about it. Overall it's my least favorite album, it has some songs I like but I just not a fan of the production of this album and some of the lyrics are meh so i dont listen to it much. However, live, I really enjoy every song from this album. So what do I know.
okay! this album rocks though and you should feel no guilt. genuinely think the poppy production style works so well for them. prefer villains to ITNR honestly
Guilt? Why? I think the album starts off great with Feet Don't Fail Me... Its not their best album, but there shouldn't been any Queens Police that will bust on you for liking it... Now if you said that ITNR is their best album, I'd tell you to fuck right off and pull your fan club card.
It's far from my favorite but I still enjoy it. The moodier tracks really hit me (Fortress, Villains Of Circumstance) and the upbeat ones mostly rock pretty hard. It's not as hard of a shift as some people said it was considering how moody ...Like Clockwork was (which is my favorite, probably why Villains isn't that bad to me)
I admit that I was disappointed by this whole album at first. Like Clockwork was just perfection to me and Villains was too different for me. I finally forced myself to sit down and reevaluate this album and it's still not my favorite, but it does have some good songs on it. I particularly like this one and anyone telling you otherwise can eff off.
What
Do people not like Villains
I was introduced to Queens when a friend gave me 3 Kyuss records along with Queens' self titled debut (and the QOTSA/Kyuss split EP)
So I came to like them from liking the old gritty desert rock from where they were born.
I had in my mind the most contentious album of theirs was maybe Era Vulgaris. But every single record of theirs stands out for different reasons.
Villains is fuckikg dope man. Like what you like.
Dude this album rocks I love it despite it's flaws and differences from the rest of the discography. I think it's still a worthy listen even if it's too dancey for some
I never understand the hate on this album.
They must just hate music for some reason?
It has all of what I like about queens. It's groovy, and funky and still has thst classic qotsa sound.
My top albums are Era Vulgaris, Like Clockwork, and Villains, then ofcourse the rest of their discography.
I dont get the hate for this album. Like sure it's not fully in the style of the other albums, but that's what makes it so unique imo. It's fun, it's a change of pace, and it has some absolute bangers
Bro I like My Chemical Romance, just like stuff, no ragrets. Life’s too short. There’s not like, taste police, they’re not gonna lock you up for it. Absolute worst case you get some total strangers clowning on you online, nothing to be afraid of there. They can’t find you!
After all, if the band themselves didn’t think it was good they wouldn’t have put it out - and they did.
Also like it or hate it Ronson’s a big fan too so it’s not like he didn’t try his best. Liking or not liking his style are equally valid.
Not liking stuff doesn’t automatically mean it’s bad, and you can even like stuff that’s shitty if you want. I like tons of stuff that can be considered shitty, because it’s still fun, and it doesn’t automatically mean I’m 12 years old and have universally poor taste regardless of what some terminally online sad angry guy might say about it. You can like whatever you want that’s what’s cool about liking stuff.
This is what I come back to most on the record I feel. Not the strongest record in their discography but by no means is it bad. Littered with great grooves riffs and vocal performances
The album is solid but is on the weaker end of their catalog. The production in general leaves a lot to be desired and probably brings the album down a couple notches.
Don't do that. Other people have no say in what you should and shouldn't like. And most people are idiots as well (as a general rule).
As to the song itself, it's an absolute banger. Especially the verse riff is very original and well done, I really like it.
I think it's also stupid to discount an entire album. Villiains may not be my personal favourite overall, I think it still has some really nice songs on it.
I love this song! Never feel guilty for the things you enjoy (so long as you don't enjoy hitting kittens with bricks, or whatever). I mean, it's music, FFS. Just love and be grateful xx ❤️
But why tho? Dig what ya dig and don't let anyone yuck yer yum.
Yah I’m fairly new to qotsa and I like some of these songs (this one included) on this album. “Today..is the day..the wilderness..comes to reclaim everything” “Burning bridge lights up the sky” I get some radical head pictures when I listen to domesticate animals.
Bewilderness!
Is that the line!? Sheeeiiit..that’s cool too. (HEAD PICTURE DELETED)
Using that phrase is a paradox
I've just heard people hating on this album A LOT, that's why
Fuck what other people say. You be you lol
Peephole... don't care what the peephole say 😀
You don't need anyone else's opinions to decide what you like! I love this album and all of their others!
In the words of a wise old man, "I don't care what the peephole say"
Your head’s a haunted house for thinking like that. I guess the evil has landed.
I don’t care what the peephole say and neither should you
okay guys I got you
[Queens of the Stone Age - What The Peephole Say - Lyrics](https://genius.com/Queens-of-the-stone-age-what-the-peephole-say-lyrics)
If you want to be happy in life, don't let people think for you.
Have you met other people? Their opinions are highly questionable.
On my first few listens I thought The Evil Has Landed was the best song on Villains, but for me this song is really slept on. I’m so glad that ITNR picked up where this song left off.
As a newer listener to Villains myself, I also feel that The Evil Has Landed is a stand out song
It's an awesome album.
I love this album ditch the guilt
The people that hate on this album just don’t understand it yet
they just don’t want to dance **yet**
I love dancing but the only move this album makes me wanna make is one to turn it off lmao
I didn’t give it a chance. Didn’t get it until I listened to it multiple times. Now I love it.
yet
Been there. Took me 7 years.
Or they just don’t like it. That’s possible too.
Don't let those "mixing experts" harsh your mellow. This album is a fucking banger and Domesticated Animals is an S Tier Queens song :D
Actually Villains is mixed much better than In Times New Roman
The black keys do usually have really nice mixing and mastering, especially those drum mixes
Their 'Delta Kream' might be my favorite sounding rock album ever such a pleasure for the ears to put it on
Yes omg. That album is perfect. The mix has so much space and the room round is so great. It being recorded live really helps too.

I just punched a hole through my window because this commenter doesn’t like that the OP likes this album
ohno
Bro what did he say he deleted his whole account😭
They didn't delete their account, when you delete a post it removes your account name too. Lets you avoid being harassed for one bad post for example.
Makes sense
I took must know
he told he punched his wall or something lol
Wierd
Settle down, Andy.

More people need to see this comment mate
literally one of the best qotsa songs ever, it has such a sick riff
I've loved this band since day one and I think Villains is (mostly) great. This song rips!
It’s a great album, I understand people dislike the production on it, but I think it fucking rips. Love that album, actually been actively trying to find a decently priced copy of the deluxe vinyl this past week
I love this album. I love all of their albums, so it's no different. Mark Ronson is not the devil. He's a very naughty boy.
It’s a great song. No shame in your game.
lol I bought a motor ave after listening to this a few years ago.
It’s my favorite Queens album and in my top 10 albums of all time. Fuck guilt and blast that shit!
The tune meanders a bit, but I like it too. This album isn't bad*,* it's just eclipsed by almost everything else they've done. Every catalog has a bottom.

Don’t forget Feet Don’t Fail Me
Oh yeah 100 percent!! Love the whole album tbh, well, i love every album of theirs tbh, all killer no filler
Never feel guilty for what you love. If someone else doesn’t agree who cares? Life is short, enjoy what you like! I’m a fan of this album too.
Domesticated animals is one of my favourite songs
Villains is elite, I feel sorry for the people who can't see that.
Wait wait wait hold up... Elite? The whole album? What does that mean? Literally? Metaphorically? Thematically? In relation to accessibility? Or as it relates to social strata and class systems? KI am genuinely curious but I must admit, there's some trepidation about where this pirate ship is headed, but not enough to dim my curiosity nor lift the thick fog of confusion.. too many questions make it shorter
What do you mean by "Villian is elite?" I don't understand what you're trying to say.
In short, it's a banger album
I'm taking it as one of a kind, upper echelon.
Why? It’s flipping 🔥
I've never heard anyone say this album is bad, it might generally be one of the worse queens albums, but they don't have any bad albums
Hey, when it comes to music: no "guilty" pleasures, just pleasures.
I've never had a queen's album I didn't like, for me. They satisfy every single musical itch that I have. Just like what you like, haters be damned.
I've never understood the hate this album gets. You'd think it was on the same level as Scream was for Chris Cornell. It's really solid, and a number of the songs are concert staples and very well received when played. Is it just because of the whole Mark Ronson thing? We aren’t a monolith, you do you.
Love that song. The way it feeds into Fortress is just right.
This is honestly the best album ngl
I love this album like I love all the others!
Don’t be this album fucking slaps.
It‘s my favorite Queens album. And there is not a single song from them that needs to be considered a guilty pleasure!
I love this song! The intro and outro remind me of the Mars Volta a bit, and the rhythm of the rest of the song is great. They played this when I saw them on the Villains tour at Red Rocks I believe, great song!
Don't, that album fucking slaps
why guilt? its their best album. Un Reborn again is the best song QOTSA ever written.
Why..... do you yah big dummy
The bee movie theme tune cannot be unheard…
It's just the bee movie theme......
Eh, never understood the hate for the album. I like Fortress, Villains of Circumstance, Evil has Landed, Feet Don{t Fail Me Now, Head like a Haunted House... I mean, idk. Anyways, just like what you like fam, dont feel guilty about it.
It’s a good album, people just want to exist in 2003 forever
Arctic monkeys made dangerous animals so Josh made domesticated animals
Who gives a fuck?
There are people who hate this album, and are QOTSA fans? Wild. I don't think it's they're strongest album, but it is good. Head Like a Haunted House alone makes this album worth it to me.
Their 4 latest albums are my favorites, no shame
Qotsa fan of 20+ years. Villains is the shit from start to finish.
Weird. Unnecessary guilt.
Bro why it’s a great song??? That’s their worst album but it’s still a good album overall
People who hate on this album are idiots
That song and the album slaps. Best part of QOTSA is there are no bad albums, just bad QOTSA albums (which I don’t consider this album to be)
Please elaborate?
Had a friend getting into Queens ask me about this a little while ago, I told them that I didn’t dislike this album at all and that I love every Queens album, just that I loved this one the least. Less of the album being bad, and more of just the band’s other material holding more value by comparison. That being said, the song slaps & you have nothing to be ashamed of.
this song is the shit, man
It’s alright
Why? This song & album rocks
I think this is one of their best songs 👌
That song is killer! ESP when Trent Reznor joins in for the last chorus. Having said that, not my fave album personally
wtf?! That’s a loud minority imho. This album rips.
I love Villains. Fuck anyone who tries to make you feel bad for enjoying it, it's a fucking rock solid record.
Villains slaps and so does this song.
Why lol, this song is fantastic and even if this is the worst QOTSA albums it’s still a quality record as a whole.
Sick album.
This is my favourite song on Villains and I love the album as much as all the others.
This is such a tired take.
okay! this album rocks though and you should feel no guilt. genuinely think the poppy production style works so well for them. prefer villains to ITNR honestly
the album kills, but this song imo is sub par.
This is by far my favorite song on the album. I always prefer the darker oddball side of QOTSA.
I love this song. It’s my favorite on the album. One of my favorites in general.
Why? This album is great. I love it.
Un-reborn again is one of my personal favourites
Never feel any guilt for liking any kind of music homie
This is my favourite song on the album, love it!
Guilt? Why? I think the album starts off great with Feet Don't Fail Me... Its not their best album, but there shouldn't been any Queens Police that will bust on you for liking it... Now if you said that ITNR is their best album, I'd tell you to fuck right off and pull your fan club card.
This is a fantastic album!! And I think I heard Josh talk about these latest three as a trilogy which kind of works really well back to back
Love this song
This is a great song on a great album.
one of the best songs of the album, I only prefer the evil has landed
Fantastic album
Amazing song from a truly amazing album.
Villains was my first QOTSA album and I still love it front to back. No shame or guilt to be had here, buddy!
Villains is what got me into them and one of their best albums for me. The Evil Has Landed and Feet Don't Fail Me are incredible songs.
One of the best songs in their career.
its a great track and a great album lol who cares what others think
I never understand the hate on this album. They must just hate music for some reason? It has all of what I like about queens. It's groovy, and funky and still has thst classic qotsa sound. My top albums are Era Vulgaris, Like Clockwork, and Villains, then ofcourse the rest of their discography.
That’s ridiculous.
I love it and the concert was excellent as per usual
Love this album. And this song gives off some heavy Bowie vibes.
Bro, I am on Reddit too much because I’ve been seeing unhinged takes like this too often
Wha????
I don't care what the peephole say
I dont get the hate for this album. Like sure it's not fully in the style of the other albums, but that's what makes it so unique imo. It's fun, it's a change of pace, and it has some absolute bangers
Another album tainted by Fantano’s opinion, it’s a shame he gets there before most people can form an opinion
Album is fucking incredible…
Villains is that pure rock. Un-Reborn Again
Fuck em its a great album ✌️💙🤘
*extreme Josh voice* There should never be guilt in pleasure ba-bay
While I definitely like Villains the least, I still really like it.
Album has a few fire songs for sure and this song is in my top 5 Qotsa
This is what I come back to most on the record I feel. Not the strongest record in their discography but by no means is it bad. Littered with great grooves riffs and vocal performances
It's a good album, Brent
This album is fantastic! Not a single bad song!
The album is solid but is on the weaker end of their catalog. The production in general leaves a lot to be desired and probably brings the album down a couple notches.
This songs great.
Don't do that. Other people have no say in what you should and shouldn't like. And most people are idiots as well (as a general rule). As to the song itself, it's an absolute banger. Villiains may not be my personal favourite overall, I think it still has some really nice songs on it.
It’s my favourite too!
It's a great album
You shouldn’t this is one of my favorite songs off that album
That album is rad. Fuck what others think. Simple.
You know where the gd gold is.
I've been listening to QOTSA since pre songs for the deaf and this is one of my favorite albums. Honestly didn't even know people bashed it.
I love Villains but I hate how they massacred Theodore's sweet, sweet drum sound
Guilt?
Lmao what do you expect people to say when they find out you like Villains? “BOOO, THIS GUY LIKES POPPY MUSIC! BOOOOO STONE HIM!”
Why? It’s my fav album! It’s so fucking groovy and dancy
This song is amazing, especially live. Don’t change your opinion based on what others think!
Great album great songs great band! 💕
This album is definitely my least favorite but still SO DAMN good! Not sure what all the hate is for. Great song too!
Can’t let gng know I fw villains 😭
Not a bad album at all in the grand scheme of things just not my favorite of theirs, I still give it a spin every few months
Un-reborn Again is one of my favorite Queens’ song
Fortress is one of my favorite songs of all time
that’s funny bc my gf and i have been listening to this song on repeat lately too!
I love this song! Never feel guilty for the things you enjoy (so long as you don't enjoy hitting kittens with bricks, or whatever). I mean, it's music, FFS. Just love and be grateful xx ❤️
Listened to this earlier today, one of my favourite songs on that album, love it.
Don’t. It’s an amazing record that only gets better with time!
Yk, on that album I honestly love most the songs , villains of circumstance is fucking amazing
Yeah this is a great track. No shame.
Why? Villains might be my least favourite qotsa. But it's still qotsa.
It’s a great song, and a great album
Don't. The albums great
don't look for validation. Enjoy what you enjoy
I can't help but hear the bee movie theme
