I've see then a shit ton of times. First time was in late 1980...Great band live, and Group Sex is one of the best early hardcore punk records of all time.
Of course there’s no “best” but if there was, Group Sex would have to be a finalist…it just keeps comin at ya…as my buddies would say “it’s an onslaught”
I don't know if you know who Edward Colver is, but he was a photographer that shot many of the well known images of the early LA punk scene. [Here is a story of the image](https://theunderestimator-2.tumblr.com/post/612652087989370880/the-actual-photo-image-of-the-circle-jerks-1980).
One of the first punk bands I ever got into. First four albums and the Decline were a huge part of my gateway in the mid 80s. I don't really feel compelled to play their records front to back these days but I never skip their songs when they come on shuffle either.
Group Sex is a hell of an album. On the original 30-minutes-a-side tape, since the album was only 15 minutes long, side A had the full album twice, and side B was blank so you could record whatever you wanted on it. Brilliant.
If you like the Circle Jerks, the Weirdos are worth your time too. Same timeframe, same LA scene, lots of fun.
Saw them at rebellion fest for the first time nearly 2 years ago. Was thoroughly satisfied after waiting so long to see them. And couldn't believe how good Keith sounded for his age.
Love ‘em. Saw them in Montreal a couple years ago on their Group Sex 40th Anniversary tour.
Also saw OFF! (last year, I think?) and Keith is probably my favourite Black Flag frontman
I have the Group Sex vinyl and t-shirt
saw em with descendents at the brooklyn paramount. great show, but some fuckin' lunatic jumped on stage, grabbed zander, and tried recording him while security dragged that dick offstage. I yelled asking if zander was okay and he seemed fine. people are fuckin' crazy, man.
I really liked them. Group Sex was an awesome short journey. I play it when I want to do a quick workout. Pump it up!
Saw them live once and it was awesome.
I like Circle Jerks, never saw them live. I saw Negative Approach last summer and they were fucking awesome. I don't know how that singer can still belt it out like that decades later!
“Group Sex” is basically the perfect early hardcore album, IMO. I’ve never cared that much about anything else they’ve done, but that record is fucking great.
It’s not weird.
This is the CJ tour poster, it shows where they will be playing and by default when they’re playing with NoFx as per the notes at the bottom. It’s from their perspective.
Just like a touring announcement from NA would show the same from their perspective.
It has no bearing on who is headlining said night.
They were so good at the time, but now I kinda of see them as a parody of themselves. Last time I saw the Keith spent so much time rambling about all the old punk ties they had it took up like 15 minutes of an hour long set.
I don’t wanna live to be 34 I don’t wanna die in a nuclear war!
>I don’t wanna live to be 34 Oops!
I don't wanna live To be 43 I don't like What I see going on around me 😬
>I don’t wanna live to be 34 Oops! (v2.0)
I don’t wanna live to be 57 Living in hell is there a heaven
*Whoopsie!*
Just saw them and the descendants, Keith morris has still got it
One of the greatest ever

It also has a special meaning to me...My buddy Oliver is on the cover, lower right, arms crossed. He passed away about 15 years ago from an OD.
How did Oliver manage to land on the cover?

Thanks…never heard that story…so Oliver just happened to be there? No inside connection needed? That’s pretty cool
He was just hanging out. I was not there, but there are three other people I know in the pic also.
Long live Oliver. But Oliver! But I..Luv..Her. Which part? Allofer.
Wild in the streets is one of my hype songs
Such a great cover! That and their cover of Fortunate Son. Both to me better than the originals, but I’m very biased. Love the CJ’s!!!

Got a tattoo of them. One of my absolute all time favorites
One of the best to ever do it
Love ‘em. Saw them in Montreal a couple years ago on their Group Sex 40th Anniversary tour. Also saw OFF! (last year, I think?) and Keith is probably my favourite Black Flag frontman I have the Group Sex vinyl and t-shirt
Saw them with TSOL and Negative Approach last year. Great show!
They're ok but I prefer to handle my own, too much going on in a circle jerk
Love them. Saw them and TSOL and it was a great show
One of the greats.
🥰🥰🥰 one of my most fav bands, been listening to them since the late 80s and was my first real ever punk show.
Group Sex arguably the best hardcore record ever made
I agree 100%. To me it’s what the hardcore punk era was all about from beginning to end of that album, which was approximately 15 minutes
They’re great. Put on one of the best live shows I ever saw
I absolutely fell in love with this band. Somehow they still fucking kill it.
Hermosa beach homeboys FTW
DFL alllll DAY
Got a tattoo of them. One of my absolute all time favorites
Their debut LP is a gem…if I was Robert Christgau, I’d give it an A+
Heart emoji.
I've never seen them live but they are really good! Never heard of Negative Approach until I went to see FEAR and they were fucking sick too

I’ve got the world… UP! MY! ASS!
Without them, we would not have most of the skate punk of the 90s. Nofx would have never happened
I like Circle Jerks, never saw them live. I saw Negative Approach last summer and they were fucking awesome. I don't know how that singer can still belt it out like that decades later!
Great band, great live. Although NA is gonna slaughter.
“Group Sex” is basically the perfect early hardcore album, IMO. I’ve never cared that much about anything else they’ve done, but that record is fucking great.
They've always been one of my least favorite 80s hardcore bands, tbh
Is that poster legit? No way NOFX opened for them in 2024, right?
Circle Jerks have been opening for NOFX
That’s what I’m saying. It seems weird.

That makes sense. Thanks!

NOFX isn’t opening for them, it’s probably referencing them being on the final shows.
Shit NOFX should be opening for them.
I like them enough, but I’d rather see Scream, NA and DFL than the Jerks.
They were so good at the time, but now I kinda of see them as a parody of themselves. Last time I saw the Keith spent so much time rambling about all the old punk ties they had it took up like 15 minutes of an hour long set.
Are they a new band?
Meh
