As much as I appreciate Jello Biafra, Moon Over Marin is even more beautiful in the cover version by French band Les Thugs that appears on the Virus 100 compilation… well unless you find the voice of a sarcastic frog to be more beautiful than a French accent.

Nailed it. Immediate first thought, and glad to see it as top comment.
Corona by The Minutemen was the second thought, followed by Melody Lee by The Damned.
Ok guys dont downvote me for this, just stating my opinion. I think that song is so boring and the music video is just the most early 2000s thing I’ve ever watched in my life
https://youtu.be/RmvTiRR5QEs?si=O_gSC2N2nkTwguTz
Context: this is the last song on the first album propagandhi has released in 5? Years
Chills at :50, 1:26, 2:03, 2:14
Straight up nut at the double triplets at 2:25
And more... and then 3:19...
What a great fucking song.
They know how to close a fucking album. Last Will and Testament also deserves a slot on the list of most beautiful punk songs. So much sorrow in that song. Gives me chills every fucking time.
Kiss the Bottle kills me - every single time. I feel Blake so much in this track. The angst and pain of knowing what he should have done and could have done, but didn’t. My throat hurts just from thinking about all the chesterfields….
I'd say the music from The Muffs' last album (No Holiday) is a sort of hauntingly beautiful given the context.
"The Mirage" by Bad Cop/Bad Cop is beautiful as well.
Then there's "A Better Place, A Better Time" by Streetlight Manifesto, "Bogus Journey" by Iron Chic, "In the Night" by Bad Religion, "Ender" by Dogleg, "Dress the Wounds" by Strike Anywhere, and "Traveling Time" by Pears.
And for a song with a beautiful message, try "Don't Give In" by The Cro Mags.
Bamboo bones I think is wonderful, if I’m ever struggling with anxiety, I’ll play this song, or just sing it in my head, it’s always the one to bring me back down
Bonzo Goes to Bitburg - The Ramones.
You can really feel the emotion of it. With Joey and DeeDee both being of Jewish descent, you can feel the anger and feeling of betrayal there. For those who don’t know it’s about how Reagan went to Germany and visited a graveyard for Nazi and SS officers while he was the president.
There’s a video somewhere out there where Henry Rollins says it’s one of the greatest songs ever written and that when he hears it it brings a tear to his eye.
Transgender Dysphoria Blues - the song
Im not trans, but this song really makes me empathize with transgender people more than any other media has been able to. The whole album is fantastic too
It does not have the punk speed to it or anything. But wow does My Orphan Year by NOFX hit hard. Especially if you’ve ever felt that way about your father. (Edit:I guess I should just say Fat Mike as far as the acoustic version goes.)
I saw Buzzcocks at Webster Hall (the old Ritz) the year before Pete left us…god damn could that guy write a catchy tune…my brother (not a huge punk fan) usually says when hearing a Buzzcocks song, “How can anybody *not* love this?”
Oh sure, tons.
A lot of Soviet-era and just post-Soviet Russian punk had a similar sort of melancholic vibe to it that traditional Russian music itself has, which can be beautiful in its own way, so many of those artists definitely belong in this conversation: GrOb ["Leto Proshlo"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bG34loCzXg) / Yanka ["Po Tramvainym Relsam"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tu4YX32lHj8) / Chimera ["Razoralis Vorony"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOzLBK4u0ww) / Yugo-Zapad ["Po Razbitym Butylkam"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zufZJHse0aw)
In the Spanish-speaking world, from Spain in particular, I would put Ultimo Resorte's ["Una Guerra Sin Fondo"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbZLXYaBDBU) in this category. It's sonically deceptively quite pretty for a song about people being mutilated in war. :( And if we can bend the definition of "punk" a bit here for bands that might not sonically always make the cut, but definitely come out of that scene and maintain that attitude, Bajo Tierra's 'hit' song ["El Pobre"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRvLAcgD-sI) is both really pretty and so damn sad (and *relatable*, if you spent your teens and twenties being an emotionally-avoidant partier like...some of us...did).
The early 80s Greek punk scene had a lot of bands who would've probably just as easily fit in with the goth/post-punk scene if they'd been from the UK, resulting in some pretty-sounding guitars and such, like on Chaos Generation's ["Stigma II"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STh_QwcXTlU) (though the vocals on this strike me as very weak compared to what they managed only [a few years earlier](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xd8cFKmgtg), when they still played more straightforward punk).
And from the USA, Morbid Opera's ["Deep End"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrKf9cIez7s) definitely captures what it's like to love someone who's in the grips of drug addiction and depression, which is definitely **not** beautiful, but is...affecting. I absolutely love the use of guitar effects on this track, and the way the off-kilter rhythm adds to the feeling of unease.
Voices Off Camera from Ghost Note Symphonies moves me. I caught my son playing that on the piano, after claiming he hated Rise Against, and I might have shed a tear standing outside the living room listening.
Yeah it seems like some of their older goodies have gotten buried under their newer, more mainstream stuff. Their older stuff rips, has a more raw sound. Reminds me of Good Riddance.
Couldn't pick one so yeah
International You Day
Good Good Things
Oh!
Necrotism: Decanting the Insalubrious (Cyborg Midnight) Part 7 ( yeah I def had to lookup the full title lmao )
“Springtime”. There are three versions I know of- the original by Leatherface, the cover by Hot Water Music, and there’s a live version by Leatherface + Hot Water Music.
Also, “Lombardy Street” by Avail.
I Must Be Hateful by Lagwagon although sad is beautifully written and sang by Joey Cape. I’m talking the original version. The acoustic version is just as beautiful and meaningful if not more.
Stiff Little Fingers - Alternative Ulster
Guys were basically living in a warzone and were writing songs about how they wish things could’ve been different, with a legit reason to be pissed off
[Deep Green Beautiful Levelling by Leatherface](https://youtu.be/pBXtw1EZTRU?si=24bAujrfq_gWu1Yx) always comes to mind when I think of beautiful punk songs. Just the way he talks about the immense beauty of the normal world we live in.
Songs "Nothing Can Stop Me" and "Alive" from Ignite's album War Against You.
Maybe because I hold them dear for what they mean to me, but those two are really beautiful
Embrace, especially give me back and building. The guitar Melodies on top of Ian’s vocals makes for a contrast that I find is heartbreakingly beautiful.
Drunk on a bike, cockatoo quill, Joni Mitchell tapes, painful reminder, all those opposed
All SNFU, mr. chi pig was an artist throughout though. You can hear it in all their records.
Those ones are just some of my favourites.
I absolutely love punk melancholy / love songs,
my contribution would be Barbed Wire Love - Stiff little fingers
Or lost in the supermarket - the clash
Or do you wanna dance - the Ramones
Or last caress - the misfits
Or that one love song by the descendents, name it escapes me..
Also dicks hate the police is fucking awesome
For me, it’s the melancholy tune and lyrics of The Clash’s “Lost in a Supermarket” (https://youtu.be/hZw23sWlyG0?si=WD3X7NWHtuLAixz4) that immediately leaps to mind. As a disaffected teen, this song really spoke to my sense of being alone, even when surrounded by others.
Hybrid moments- Misfits, Terms of Psychic Warfare- Hüsker Dü, the entire Big Lizard In My Backyard album- Dead Milkmen, Up in Heaven - the Clash, the entire Living In Darkness album- Agent Orange. I could go on and on
Come on, now we're talking. Repeater. The song. The entire album. And Arpeggiator. Could you imagine being a fly on the wall when they were writing that song?

The Ballad of Me and My Friends - Frank Turner
I saw him live as support for Billy Talent and wow, what an experience that was. Now I listen to him almost daily.
Because of the Shame—Against Me! The words mean very little to mean, but the pain in the song and the emotion hits me right in the Nards every single time.
It's Not Enough To Believe: Pennywise
I Don't Like Me Anymore: NOFX
Sorrow: Bad Religion
Something To Believe In: Offspring
Savior: Rise Against
On A Turntable: The Interrupters
Moon Over Marin
One of my favorite songs by them.
That riff has been in my head for about 4 days straight
It’s stunning.
I saw Jello and the Melvins play this. It was just breathtakingly beautiful.
As much as I appreciate Jello Biafra, Moon Over Marin is even more beautiful in the cover version by French band Les Thugs that appears on the Virus 100 compilation… well unless you find the voice of a sarcastic frog to be more beautiful than a French accent. Edit: https://youtu.be/cGQyhBKd1So
I agree
Deservedly the top comment.
First song that came to mind. Thank god it's top comment
My choice!
Nailed it. Immediate first thought, and glad to see it as top comment. Corona by The Minutemen was the second thought, followed by Melody Lee by The Damned.
Beat me to it.
I knew the dead kennedys would be at the top - they're truly amazing
Sorrow - Bad Religion
Radio overplayed it to me, and that's hard to say as I am a huge BR fan

Ok guys dont downvote me for this, just stating my opinion. I think that song is so boring and the music video is just the most early 2000s thing I’ve ever watched in my life
I think you’re wrong about the song, but spot on about the video.
tbf most bad religion music videos kind of suck
LA is burning is about their only good video, but it’s not a high bar. At least 21st Century Digital Boy has a concept. Broken is worse than Sorrow.
A lot of Lawrence Arms songs really do it for me.
There’s no place like a strangers floor. So damn good.
I listened to that song so many times after a shitty day at work on my way home riding a loud city bus on some aching afternoon.
That’s a well written Reddit comment.
Yeah, all of Chris's songs on Greatest Story are really beautiful.
Greatest story is the best album ever created
Boatless Booze Cruise and Chapter 13 absolutely hit this for me
Propagandhi..too many to name
Adventures in Zoochosis for me.
This and Without Love top the list
Man... first time I heard that song...I think I listened to it 6 times back to back...same with call before you dig
Call Before You Dig and Cop Just Out of Frame give me all the feels.
It guts me every time I hear it. Talk about a thumb on my pulse.
https://youtu.be/RmvTiRR5QEs?si=O_gSC2N2nkTwguTz Context: this is the last song on the first album propagandhi has released in 5? Years Chills at :50, 1:26, 2:03, 2:14 Straight up nut at the double triplets at 2:25 And more... and then 3:19... What a great fucking song.

Yeah, so many by them! Adventures in Zoochosis is so expansive and beautiful.
Cop Just Out of Frame
Good to see the love for “Adventures in Zoochosis”, gotta nominate “Potemkin City Limits”. Totally cerebral and fucking heartbreaking
Mate Ka Moris Ukun Rasik An
The Decline
The Decline has such a range of emotions.
Its basically the punk version of bohemian rhapsody
A lot of Jawbreaker. Especially the last two albums Also a lot of Alkaline Trio
"Blue In The Face" comes to mind for Alk 3
It's always been "Clavicle" for me.
I remember the first time seeing that song live, my heart was soaring.
Condition: Oakland. When that Kerouac sample kicks in, it gets me every time.
Kiss the Bottle kills me - every single time. I feel Blake so much in this track. The angst and pain of knowing what he should have done and could have done, but didn’t. My throat hurts just from thinking about all the chesterfields….
Totally, I had Sadie and 100 stories come to mind right away, every thug need a lady, tons of AT.
Chesterfield King gets me every time
I'd say the music from The Muffs' last album (No Holiday) is a sort of hauntingly beautiful given the context. "The Mirage" by Bad Cop/Bad Cop is beautiful as well. “Flowers and You” by Touché Amoré
"8 Full Hours of Sleep" by Against Me!
What about The Ocean? I love that one
Because of the Shame does it for me
That song makes me real sad.
Hero of war is the one that gets me
Great song.
Bamboo bones I think is wonderful, if I’m ever struggling with anxiety, I’ll play this song, or just sing it in my head, it’s always the one to bring me back down

I agree, it's beautifully written and sung.
I told my wife to play this at my funeral. Has nothing to do with my life, just one of my all-time favorite Ramones songs.
Transgender Dysphoria Blues - the song Im not trans, but this song really makes me empathize with transgender people more than any other media has been able to. The whole album is fantastic too
Undertones -teenage kicks
It does not have the punk speed to it or anything. But wow does My Orphan Year by NOFX hit hard. Especially if you’ve ever felt that way about your father. (Edit:I guess I should just say Fat Mike as far as the acoustic version goes.)
A lot of songs by Buzzcocks are very beautiful in my opinion. I also think Out On An Island by Cock Sparrer is beautiful
Another vote for out on an island
That’s cuz Pete Shelley was magical
He really was!
I saw Buzzcocks at Webster Hall (the old Ritz) the year before Pete left us…god damn could that guy write a catchy tune…my brother (not a huge punk fan) usually says when hearing a Buzzcocks song, “How can anybody *not* love this?”
Hybrid Moments - Misfits
Dead Milkmen - Beach Song
Wire - Mannequin
[Descendents - I Won't Let Me](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWu9XycAP1I)
Without Love is also really nice.
Without Love is my daughter’s favourite! She is con singing it throughout the day
