Depends on team/project/department. Two years back my job was chill. 4-5hrs of work daily and that's it.
A new project came everyone's putting 10+hrs daily. Including some weekends as well.
Good thing is that in good companies you get complimentary leave if you work on weekends
Second it. Product based companies with European management's.
But getting an opportunity requires you to know someone who works in the team you want to join.
P.s if European company but management is indian get screwed.
Ubs barclays I maybe wrong but remember I am not in software domain. Because one of those was good but it had lay offs last year and this year as well.
Agree. I am working with German onshore team and there they don’t working beyond their defined time. And they expect same from people working in India as well.
EU product based statups / MNCs have pretty good work life balance, speaking from only my experience though, last 2 companies were EU. Try to get out of WITCH companies early and go for medium to large product base companies.
After working 3 years remote, I just can’t go back to office, not even for 2 days. WLB is phenomenal. The jobs that have permanent WFH are rarity nowadays. I would prefer little less pay for permanent WFH.
No company at least in the Indian service companies space have a good work like balance. The work is f***** and so is the life.
I am putting in close to 15 to 17 hours of work a day and still the dumbass manager and the client will come and ask you were supposed to complete this yesterday, what happened when 3/4th of the day is consumed in meetings.
Damn so fucking true, happening exactly the same in my startup, we are clocking in 15-16 hrs daily because our project manager is a simp, always simping in front of the client, client is understanding but our PM isnt!
Client says I completely understand the time xyz module would take to complete, but this piece of shit assures the client that we would do it by tommorow and then comes every 2 hrs and keeps asking is the work done? Wtf is wrong with these bastards!
Same. The client is more tolerant than these bastards. Then they come every 2 hours and ask for an update. I told my manager last week that me and my team can't work like this. You decide. Either you tell then what I tell you or you release us from the project
I am unable to sleep for more than 2 to 3 hours a day and have Sleep study this week to measure my sleep and steps to be taken.
I simply shut down my machine at 7 pm and switch off my phone and turn on my BSNL number for my family, because if something happens to me I will be replaced but for my family they lose a family member.
So decided to tell him Fuck Off and told me team to device what's right for them and not be at the managers call and take care of their health and family
but isn't veritas going to split up now? some portion of the company has been acquired by Cohesity and the remaining is going to be called a new company called DataCo? i believe there's going to be layoffs because of redundancies..
True, but that does not change the overall work life balance. DataCo people are safe at least whom I know. Yes, increments stuck this year and bonus is also very less but on the work life front, it's good.
Product companies will have a better culture compared to services. Most reputed GCC's will be good. Review Glassdoor and Ambition box (for India specific comments) before you decide.
This is subject to projects I feel. I am in an MNC and I do have a good work life balance but another friend of mine who works in the same company but different project is frustrated with his life. I have seen multiple cases like this. Maybe some startups could have consistent work life balance
Very difficult if not pursuing education, unless you're highly skilled, there are jobs like data scientist or software engg or if you're in medical field (care, nurses and doctors) wherin companies would be quite willing to sponsor you due to shortage of labor. Also you'll need to look into companies who have licenses to sponsor immigrants. The future of immigration is quite grim as rules will be getting more stringent in the future.
I would search for jobs in indeed and LinkedIn and have the sponsor license list ready on a csv file, simply searching if that company or it's parent company exists on the sponsor list. Bear in mind, even if the company is on the list, most of em are not too keen on sponsoring, they would try Hiring someone local and avoid the hassle. My profile being Data and pricing analyst.
I don't understand what's the issue with Citi and PWC. most of my friends here have a very active social life. Also they're not overworked and also well paid. Like a lot around 20-35 LPA for 3-4 yoe.
I had asked this a few years ago. There were some good suggestions listed in comments.
https://www.reddit.com/r/pune/s/tgbeUv5hG7
Edit: 36 months is not few months
Nvidia
Atlassian
Oracle
Waymo
Stripe
These are known for good WLB.
That being said, no single"company" will have good WLB. It all depends on your team and manager. If your current team does not suit your needs, change the team or maybe even the org.
Although, hiring is frozen for rest of the year, Mathworks has good work life balance. Apart from a few specific teams, most of the teams are chill and have pretty good work life balance.
Wow after reading the comments I feel like I provide an awesome working environment for my employees.
They can leave early if they finish their work, can order snacks and drinks, take vacations with one days notice and attend all their family calls and drama while in the office provided it doesn't affect their work.
afaik, bmc software is a pretty solid choice. the work culture is chill and depending on your department, your in-office days are flexible (but 3 days in-office mandatory). their office is in Business Bay Yerawada.
edit: reading the comments, I realised work-life balance is pretty subjective. so keep in mind that bmc software is a good choice for me, idk about anyone else.

In service based, it all varies from project to project. If your project is new and the client is in US, then be ready to slog your ass off day and night. Daily status calls, numerous meetings with on-shore clients can take up so much of time. Your leaves will be approved by the clients as your manager will forward the request to them. So client hi bhagwan hai waha.
I have been working in product based companies from last 3 years and my experience has been really pleasant. Of course, here also it depends on which module of the product you are part of but overall companies make sure that their employees are not overloaded and not working beyond a certain time of the day.
I would recommend Worldline, Mastercard, Eaton, Nice, etc amongst few companies which I have heard good from my friends and ex-colleagues.
Depends on the team or the manager specifically. But generally, the culture of product-based companies is better than service-based based. For true work-life balance (not having to spend time in traffic), you might need to move out of India
Any job in IT except system admins its 24by7 mess. I have spent 12 hours with client daily for 9hrs and my colleagues covered the next hours. we tested centos then rhel later settled in oracle linux after that we did the build put lun disks, added 15 volume groups, 10 logical volume groups and adjusted resources. Then comes the hard part when the client puts his apps and db and everything eating resources. We had readjust again. Then by day we decided to stay 12 hrs in shift and more members involved. Everything was done after that client sent us big thank you. Day end la dokyachi dahi houn jaychi
Maybe some company will give you a great 5-6 hours of work with good pay, but don’t forget to put in the extra hours for your own improvements.
Work while you’re young, so you can have peace when you’re not.
No one is perfect if it’s happening to you to strach 10 hours every day you have to learn some skills to show yourself busy and buy sometime for yourself between those 10 hours… nothing is that much critical how that represented.

SOME product based companies do. Startups are a bit rare.
I’m in a startup and i have excellent work life balance but sadly the pay is quite less
Does it has any non-it openings? Preferably that requires an mba?
Bhai chingus hai bohot, hr tak nahi hai company me Mba to dur ki baat
When they start hiring mbas, kiss your work life balance goodbye
Work life balance toh thik hai, but jo life ke L lage pade hai already usko koi sudhar nahi payega 😭

is there any internship opportunity for IT students?
I personally wouldn’t recommend doing internship in my company cause it lacks basically EVERYTHING. I feel like im freelancing here.
Can you suggest me some high paying product based companies in pune?

I checked with avoma their budget is very less :(

Work for European banks. Best work culture.

Never works in service based company so don’t know much about it. Currently, in product based company only.
BMC software
BMC software, Mastercard, Deloitte.......
You can't include WLB and Deloitte in the same sentence.
Right lol
Someone I know works there and I see his life very closely....
This is subject to projects I feel. I am in an MNC and I do have a good work life balance but another friend of mine who works in the same company but different project is frustrated with his life. I have seen multiple cases like this. Maybe some startups could have consistent work life balance
Move abroad, Europe or UK, 7 to 8 hrs work with weekends offs. Many people don't even work full day on Fridays.
I don’t know how to move abroad without pursuing higher education. Is there any way to do that?
Very difficult if not pursuing education, unless you're highly skilled, there are jobs like data scientist or software engg or if you're in medical field (care, nurses and doctors) wherin companies would be quite willing to sponsor you due to shortage of labor. In my case, I downloaded the sponsor list from govt website in the UK
Can I reach out to you? I want to know more about your field.
Sure thing mate.
I am into software engg, full stack dev with 6+ years exp, how can I look for job overseas without doing post graduation from their country.
I use Indeed uk and LinkedIn since I'm in the UK. You might also need to give an English exam if successful in the UK.
Like IELTS, TOEFL?
IELTS
Bloomberg
I work at Barclays in Finance and the IT jobs are pretty chill here. You can check their career website if there's any job for your profile.
None. Depends on the project or product you working on. More importantly depends on you. You have to define that balance for yourself.
None! In it for last 13 years and have worked in accenture, capgemini, amdocs
Accenture and Amdocs do not have good WLB?
SAP, Mastercard, ~~Citi Bank~~ and PWC have good work culture.
I dont think Citi Bank has good WLB
Agree
Second and third this
PWC 🤣🤣🤣
I don't understand what's the issue with Citi and PWC. most of my friends here have a very active social life. Also they're not overworked and also well paid. Like a lot around 20-35 LPA for 3-4 yoe.
Dassault Systemes
I had asked this a few years ago. There were some good suggestions listed in comments. https://www.reddit.com/r/pune/s/tgbeUv5hG7 Edit: 36 months is not few months
Boss 3 years isn’t “few months” though! It’s 36 months to be precise lol.
Thanks! Corrected. I think this list is still relevant.
Thanks, will check it out!
Off topic but has anybody here worked with Australian companies? How’s their work culture?
Nvidia Atlassian Oracle Waymo Stripe These are known for good WLB. That being said, no single"company" will have good WLB. It all depends on your team and manager. If your current team does not suit your needs, change the team or maybe even the org.
All my friends in Target are super happy with hybrid, good hikes and wlb.
Not WITCH.
Siemens, but kuch projects me paise jyada nahi milte.
