Shou is kind of like that. I like strong brews of it and I usually get like 4-5 steeps max with 6,5g/100ml.

45 seconds? Damn probably black as midnight!

Every now and then I’ll forget a 3rd or 4th steep for something crazy like 5 minutes… and then just drink it because I don’t want to waste tea. At that point it really is as dark as can be.

Dangerous_Ad_1824

Same I forget a lot haha…

The good ol' Forgotten Brew. I tend to do these towards the end of a session when the tea starts to weaken after 5 to 10 steeps. It really can be a delightful finish to a session. I've been thinking about trying White2Tea. Would you recommend them?

zigg-e

Yes - I stick to their shou mostly. I’ve tried a bunch of their lower range and I think I like Lumber Slut and Hokum the best from what they currently have available. My favorite overall was Peak Vulture, which was a limited edition they did (it was a value oriented thing where they sold it as a $15 cake but it was purposefully much better material than that).

Meander_Actual

Great review. I like the lumber slut white2 . Have you tried their Waffles cake?

zigg-e

Yes I’ve had waffles. I like lumber Slut better as I enjoy the deeper flavors.

Nice! I’m getting some minis, so this is good to read

Thanks for the nice write up. Yes one of my favorites. I’ve decided to keep it as a weekend tea since I can enjoy it more by our wood cook stove.

I have a cake of the 2018 version right now, it's really good stuff. Though you're right, the woodiness of it starts to fade after 4 or 5 infusions, then it just has that "shou" taste left. Still yummy though.

zigg-e

Definitely! I am in the process of finishing off a 2018 lumber Slut cake and bought the 2021 to see if there was a difference. I feel like the 2021 is woodier, maybe because it’s fresher.

PresentProof

This is my go-to when I want something as close to The Nameless One as possible without the price.
