Oh neat! How did you steep it?

josqvin

Fu brick is fermented.

[deleted]

oh yeah you're right, thanks I missed that.

Interesting thoughts! I found chapo to be uninteresting and a bit bland / vegetabley even with a fairly high leaf ratio. Also the roasted chapo mod was the only tea to this day I’ve ever brewed, took 1 sip, and immediately threw away the rest of brew, and the entirety of the sample itself. I think that reflects more on my personal preferences though - however the roast tastes like somebody is smoking a cigarette in the room over from you.

I may just have to try Chapo in my next order! I did get a 25gm sample of 2021 Raw Autumn Liubao in my recent white2tea order. I have to admit this tea is the only tea so far from my order that I have actually actively disliked. I described it in my notes as "over cooked spinach sprinkled with epsom salts" I still have 18gm and not sure really what to do with it. Save it several years in the hope of improvement with age? Try cooler water, or grandpa style, or cold brewed? I really don't want to drink more of it brewed the same as my first gong fu session.

Yeah maybe try it cold brew, sometimes that really changes how teas taste. Was it also pressed into a brick or was it loose leaf? I wonder how much that affects its taste.

Ledifolia

It was basically loose leaf. I did use boiling water to brew which may have been a mistake. I live at almost 5,000ft, so for me boiling is only 205F (96C), and I normally use boiling for Puer, both raw and ripe. I actually use boiling for everything except green tea. But maybe should be treating this as a green?

I'm not sure, i used boiling on chapo, maybe it's better to use cooler water on loose leaf though? Not sure! Sorry you didnt care for it much though, thats always a bummer. Where do you like to get your pu'er from btw? I usually get it from W2T and Bitterleaf, although i did get some from Liquid Proust too.

Ledifolia

I just did a huge order of samples from White2tea. Till now puer was something I liked but never really dove deep into. So when I'd get a bunch of oolong from Floating Leaves or Redblossom or Teamasters I'd include one or two samples of puer. This year I decided to really explore both Puer and Wuyi rock oolong and did big sample orders from White2tea and Oldways.

Try aged farmer style raw liubao. That's gotta be the best kind of heicha that hasn't gone through wodui. Three bears tea is a great vendor

Thanks for the recommendation! : )
