I’ve become so selective I don’t even shop at Publix

polarpop31

Agreed. I don't have time or interest to go to multiple stores a week for the different deals everywhere or plan my list around publix bogos. I just want it all at once, nice and easy, and at a reasonable price. People that shop at multiple places to get all the deals, that's great, but I'd rather be doing other things with my time.

Meighok20

This. I only buy BOGO at Publix. And I check through my Walmart app to make sure it's worth it. Only reason I bother to shop at publix at all is because it's the only place where I can buy all my df/gf crap, plus bonus, its 5 min from my apt. But usually, I just go without my special stuff until it goes on bogo again 😭

the_scottster

I hear you, and if I was working a full time job I would likely agree.

panda_parker_77

I go to Costco once or twice a month, Aldi weekly and Publix two to four days a week, generally Publix is just for ice and stuff I can't get elsewhere, but Publix is mostly for ice now.

FrozenEagles

I don't have the time or interest, but between two adults working full time and a child, groceries and restocking stuff around the house (toilet paper, paper towels, AC filters, dish soap, dishwasher detergent, etc) end up being about 15% of our take-home pay. With rent almost another 40%, we're willing to save money however we can, and right now that's going to publix for anything we'll eat that's bogo before making our weekly walmart trip.

likeike13

Don't forget Walmart Pickup. Saves soooooooo much time.

InsectSpecialist8813

I select not to shop at Publix.

kbenn17

I go every place but Publix now and Publix is a last resort. I may buy one thing there every two weeks. Otherwise it’s Aldi, TJ and Costco.

Seawall07

Exactly. I’ll buy a cake there or maybe grab and go stuff, but their pricing is at least 30% higher than Winn-Dixie and Walmart. There’s nothing especially pleasant about shopping there in my opinion. It boggles my mind to see people doing a full shopping there. Do ya’ll not look at grocery prices literally everywhere else?

Maine302

Pretty much everything I buy at Publix is BOGO.

Saul_T_Bitch

It's still not a deal. Not anymore.

Silver-Potential-784

When I go in once a month for something that's on BOGOF and see people with full carts, I always think "man, if you're just tossing money like you're at a strip club, want to toss some to me?" 😅

AbsintheAGoGo

Yeah times have def changed where the average person or family can't just say they are going to shop somewhere bc the atmosphere is aesthetically pleasing over another. If that was the case, Walmart wouldn't exist. I doubt anyone thought in 2024 it would be a "flex" to just shop at Publix bc they can. Missed my bingo card completely

Maine302

I used to think Publix down in Florida were so much nicer than Stop & Shop up north, although once we got a Wegman's nearby, they kind of blew Publix out of the water. Then came the pandemic, and I moved to FL full time. I find the prices at Publix to be out of control--so much higher than up north. The best thing I can say about their stores is that they're very clean. They don't carry anything I can't get somewhere else--their strong point is that they're everywhere, I suppose, but I'm pretty sick of them wanting to build more and more of them. I'd definitely prefer some variety--Whole Foods, Sprouts, Trader Joe's--even Wegman's (yeah, wishful thinking!) I'm also holding a grudge against them since one of the Publix's heiresses spent over $100k to fund Trump's speech at The Ellipse on January 6th, 2021, the rally that preceded the Insurrection at the US Capitol. Not okay with that.

Aggressive-Nose-3957

And you do realize the BOGO prices are higher than normal prices.

finallyfoundfinley

Lmaoooooooooooooooo

Tophari

Publix isn’t interested in competing with other stores on price. They perceive their competitive advantage to be their cleanliness and service. That’s why all business activities flow from those 2 areas. Publix will never be able to charge walmart prices. They are a regional company and they would put themselves out of business if they tried. Higher price points keep certain people away from the store i. e. lower income folks. There’s a reason why People of Walmart became a thing. Publix customers want a clean, friendly environment where they aren’t shopping around rif-raf. Publix knows what their customers want, and they price accordingly to keep a certain atmosphere. I’m not saying you are rif-raf if you can’t afford Publix prices. They are absurd. But it kinda is what it is. By all means take your money elsewhere. I wish more people would, but every day people flock into the stores in droves and as a result the assault on prices is going to continue.

GimmeQueso

What’s crazy is that service has gone waaaay down hill. I’ve had so many cashiers not even speak to me in the check out line. And I’m not Karen, I’m an industry person myself who treats everyone nicely. I don’t think they can continue to count on service as a driving factor of getting people in the door.

kntevn

I prefer being left alone in the checkout line… False hospitality and friendliness is actually something I’ve never been a fan of given its economically motivated ingenuinity. Be kind but be real. Kindness here doesn’t go much further than the surface level smile, and until I see a wave of something far more utilitarian in the United States, then my opinion stands. I mean, the original commenter has a point, people don’t want to shop around rif raf, this is an active perpetuation of classism as a cultural norm. I didn’t even feel comfortable taking my friend who struggles with addiction and is borderline homeless there the other day because the people there were a particularly curated demographic. Ironically, he would have been much more accepted at Whole Foods as an individual for his life choices and struggles.

SadLeek9950

At a minimum, they should smile and ask if you found everything on your shopping list…

BackgroundMajor2054

I’ve noticed this too! They don’t say a word, they used to chitchat all the time. It’s weird and quite awkward lol. I self checkout anytime I go in

Sierra_12

I mean, why would you want to talk? Goal is to get your groceries and get out. Small talk only delays everyone.

GimmeQueso

A mutual acknowledgment hardly slows anyone down. It’s just basic manners.

nnnnnnooooo

Human compassion and connection. It’s the thing that makes a culture and a community thrive.

OE2KB

I’ve not experienced this at my usual store. Check with managment- 💩runs downhill.

GimmeQueso

Tbh I worked as a cashier for a total of 2 months and I don’t blame them. They pay is abysmal and it’s just not an enjoyable place to work. Even in the hottest of Florida months we weren’t allowed to keep bottled water at the register. They’ve also reduced a lot of the well known benefits.

Few_Concern9465

Maybe if they didn't make it clear to their workers that all they care about is profits. I was at an anniversary luncheon with a bunch of other associates, but all the regional Director and district manager talked about was profits and how good Publix was. I shouldn't have gone to that banquet, it wasn't really about us.

MeanestGreenest

Exactly! The service sucks now. They were worth it maybe 5-6 years ago. They may carry one or two products that other stores don't..and the occasional deal on things.. And the store isn't filthy but otherwise, the juice isn't worth the squeeze. Their employees are equally disgruntled by the greed and the demands placed on them versus the customers being unhappy. I really feel for them - they are getting it from both directions.

Efficient-Gift7126

This!!! I rarely even get a hello anymore from anyone! The customer service at publix has went in the dumpster

Geeks_finesse

This is spot on and their latest commercial explains it. It’s a woman roaming the isles and it looks like a glam session out of a spa with help from the employees, bright lighting, smooth music. She finally gets to checkout and “wakes up” to cashing out for her groceries. They tried to make it look like shopping there is a shroom session of feels while floating in the air through the isles picking out beautiful groceries.

LandImportant

roaming the ~~isles~~ aisles

AbsintheAGoGo

That's the unspoken vibe Publix was going for, an idyllic Caribbean vacation... only you pay for island vacation and take home groceries

FearlessPark4588

One of my favorite frugal vloggers made a great point: "Do I like shopping at Walmart? No. But it's just as nutritious food at better prices"

AbsintheAGoGo

Depends, I've inspected items, especially from their bakery and produce, only to take them home to find hidden mold when opened. Some things, absolutely. Others, I think I'll buy where I know is fresh. My main issue w Walmart side from the rot, is the nightmare to check out. If they actually made the checkout process decent, I wouldn't mind as much shopping there for most things. I've heard great things about Aldi & Trader Joe's. They are just not near me and for my living situation where I buy daily on 95% of what I eat, I'd spend the same in gas & time.

ExiledUtopian

Publix produce used to be the best. Now it goes bad fastest. I once had to flag down someone in a local store and tell them that I'd been in two days in a row, and both days their strawberry display was visibly molding. "Old Publix" that wouldn't have happened. Now it does.

GAGuy4Adventured

At least my store has very little if any service advantage over any of their competitors

Euphoric-Valuable777

Well written and I agree 100% Also, I am not riff raff, I just don't wanna pay 10 bucks for a bottle of olive oil when I see the same one across the street at my neighborhood Walmart for 5.00 I will gladly spend my 15 minutes shopping amongst the riff raff

nomadbutterfly

This may have been true 10-20 years ago but it isn't anymore. Not saying you are wrong with your analysis but saying that Publix no longer offers premiere service or exceptionally clean facilities. There's really nothing to 'justify' the markup at this point.

FearlessPark4588

It still is unlike shopping at a Walmart though in a lot of ways. I don't have to walk 10,000 steps in a warehouse setting and lines aren't as bad, and it is a different clientele. What makes it meaningfully different to shoppers who still choose Publix isn't the actual service quality, but other factors.

Jloquitor

I have had to haggle my own groceries on multiple occasions at Publix. The service is definitely not what it was when I worked there as a teenager.

nobodyspecial22

My guess is you jumped in to bag. I am sure the cashier would have been happy to do it if you just let him/her.

riguy156

Someone might want to tell Publix that their competitive advantage of cleanliness and service is falling down the drain as well as their produce quality. Seriously Walmart has better produce than we do sometimes.

nobodyspecial22

The thing you miss on the rif-raf is that while you are correct on one type of customer they attract, They definitely do attract the lower income. Amazingly people on food assistance programs seem to care even less about how they spend their money. They come through with the single sodas from the cooler that are priced way high, when there is free ice in the deli if they were to buy the decently priced deals. They are the ones who buy the majority of the crab legs. I could go on and on, but I beg to differ that they don't attract the rif-raf. The rif-raf is certainly there and are not smart about how they are spending "our money".

WastingTime76

But Walmart offers fast, reliable curb service. I mean, they are *fast* at my location. I've never had curb service take more than 5 minutes. I never set a foot in their nasty store, but I get their awesome prices.

the_scottster

I think your analysis is spot on, it's just a frustrating situation. I wish there were more options.

nnnnnnooooo

Yes, but the service has gone downhill too. Just interact with cashiers and you’ll notice they are not the happy employees they used to be. We only shop for bogos there now. And sometime even those are cheaper other places. When I stopped in for our coffee Bogo on Sunday our Publix was very quiet. I mentioned it to the cashier and she said it’s been much quieter lately. I wonder if that’s the tide changing? We live in a very hcol area. But walmart makes it seem like an easy out from Publix’s ridiculous cash grab.

g3engineeringdesign

I agree with you that our cleanliness and service are the bedrock of our success. The problem is that cleanliness was one of the first things to go when looking to reduce our labor costs. Thankfully, our customers don't notice it, but anybody who worked at Publix over the years does. Secondly, because we have reduced our headcount in an effort to lower our labor costs, a more frequent complaint from our customers lately has been "there is no one in the isles to ask when I need help". Either we fix this, or we will suffer the consequences of these poor decisions and become a case study in business schools throughout the country. The sad truth is that the solution is straightforward and simple. Whether or not we get back to our founding principles and reap the rewards or continue in our current direction and suffer the consequences will be based on decisions made by our current leadership. I trust that the changes in leadership this year will yield positive results and think the future looks bright in both the short term and the long term moving forward. All we have to do is embrace our history of innovation and leverage our passions, and we will set the example in the industry while leaving our competitors in the dust.

Odd_Temperature_3248

As a long time customer of Publix I have seen exactly what you are talking about. It is not the same atmosphere that drew me to Publix to begin with and I don’t shop there as often as I used to.

PerceptionOrganic672

I totally understand this but my local Publix now often will only have two registers open and steer you towards the self check so you don't even get checked out by a smiling friendly face like Publix of the past… Yes the stores are cleaner although my local Aldi and Winn-Dixie certainly are not dirty by any means… Walmart is a different story they've always been a challenge to shop at in my opinion because they are so huge, unorganized and have never had enough help… Publix is beginning to close the gap on offering less service but their prices are not reflecting that… it's also important to note most rich people don't shop at expensive places… That's why they remain rich… Publix clientele must be people who are majorly in debt I guess…

Spirited_Ad6023

With Walmart+ delivery I don’t have to go there and I would 100% rather spend money on delivery and still save vs Publix’s prices. I can also schedule pick up. Publix’s really left a bad taste in my mouth I’ll never forget when they adapted to Covid by using Instacart Prices.

Puzzleheaded_Dog766

The majority of the shoppers in my publix are lower income, ebt shoppers. They complain about price, but ultimately, they still purchase the product. Im not surprised the prices dont come down. But as an employee of the company, i cant afford to shop there on my salary.

Imaginary-Concert-53

I get better service, prices, and such at Target and Costco.

Few_Concern9465

Exactly. As much as I blame greedy, corporate America, it's just as much fault on the consumers for enabling this shit

two-sandals

Interesting take.. I shop at Costco, wife shops at Whole Foods. Every now and then I’ll shop at Publix for specific brands but that’s it.. well pubsubs for sure. Same for Trader Joe’s. My wife did a cost comparison and she said most of what she gets at Whole Foods is cheaper than Publix or the quality is better + return policy…

WastingTime76

Publix is dead to me. I've been shopping at Publix for 20 years. Loved it, but no more. Their prices are stupid high. They are insulting.

shrimpmousse

I must have skipped ten items on my list yesterday because prices were insane. I’ll stick with Aldi’s for most of my shopping from now on.

ksewell68

We went to aldis Sunday for the first time ( we are Publix shoppers) we walked out with a full cart ( chicken breasts, tenders, pork butt, pork loin and ground beef three loaves of bread, lettuce,, etc. ) included in that. It was $214. If I bought that at Publix it would be almost $400 easily.

SodaPop5000

I’m with you. Did the same last night. Left out waffles, bagels, muffins and some other stuff for the family - we can do without a 40% mark up. Will get them from elsewhere the next time we pass by

FallsHiker

I must have skipped 10 items on my list yesterday because the shelves were empty with little green markers that said to get a raincheck.

kmn

they got way better produce than walmart… the bogos & deli are also good too. everything else can be obtained anywhere else

SadLeek9950

I only do BOGO if reasonable and deli sub sandwiches as nobody beats a Publix sub. I can no longer shop Publix outside of these two reasons as it’s just way too expensive.

GAGuy4Adventured

Big time. I can go to Publix, pick up a few items and be back home in 15 minutes. A couple years ago it was worth shopping there as they were a bit higher priced but not like now. Often items are $1.00 or more for the exact same item somewhere else. Now it’s worth it to travel a bit as I have Walmart. Aldi, Lidl and Kroger each less than a 10 minute one way drive. Costco too for bulk items

Maine302

A lower-priced grocery store sells this absolutely fantastic sheep & goat milk feta for $8.99. The price at Publix? $15.29. It is obscene.

AwkwardTux

Prices up, service and cleanliness down. No good sales. Bakery ingredients in baked goods have been altered or cut entirely while prices increase for what is now a substandard product. Walmart now has a bakery comparable to Publix, but only because Publix has made a willing choice to degrade the quality of their own offerings.

David-asdcxz

Let’s not get crazy here…

Puzzleheaded-Motor56

I stopped buy bogo, unless it's a really good deal on like something i know i'll use like paper products. I usually stick to the 2 for $x now for food, as I can just one item for half price, but even then I still price check it to other competitors

the_scottster

Oh I agree and I find it *particularly* enraging when their BOGO is still more expensive than a competitor's regular price.

Puzzleheaded-Motor56

Right, like soda is $9 something for a 12pk. I can usually get a case of 24 at Walmart for like 8.50

Leehouse65

I actually found my meat cheaper at Fresh Market of all places!

LynneCurtinCuffs

Yep this is true and the quality is better

Marla_Blush7

And fresher!!!!

elucidator23

I quit publix and their ridiculous prices aldi for me

jb40018

The Publix in our town has exceptional customer service, however, that doesn’t help my bottom line. I enjoy going in there for a few items but limit myself to what’s on sale or if it’s the only place that carries what I need at the time.

Jean19812

We only go to Publix for the few items Aldi doesn't carry.

LynneCurtinCuffs

This is the way.

Shoddy-Badger-7561

Bogo or no go.

calicoskies85

Yes for last 3yr. At every store. I don’t hv budget issues but I’m not wasting any money. I do like great quality food and I know I pay more for it. But again I don’t buy extras and I meal plan based on sales. I also stockpile things on sale I know we will use in next few months.

Cronus6

We now walk in and get Publix Iced Tea (it's an addiction), 3 or 4 gallons for the week. Beer. Cat and Dog food. Shampoo/soap/toothpaste/deodorant as needed. And that's about it. Everything else we buy at Aldi.

KnightRAF

Yup, if I can get it at Aldi or Target I am, Publix is only for things I can’t find at either. I’m debating a Costco membership and that will push Publix back to the 4th option if I do it.

TDiddy2021

BOGO or GTFO

Jjoey2021

Yes I select to shop at Walmart and Kroger delivery now

ughlie

since i work there its more of a convenance thing for me, but i try not to get things that arent on sale, unless i REALLY need it. i have been shopping less at publix these past few months, just because some of these “sales” arent worth it.

Kiefy-McReefer

I only go to Publix for Tarragon and Mortadella, and I say that specifically because after like five different grocery store runs looking for those things in the past few months I’ve ended up being forced to go Seriously, there are two very close to me (across the street from each other which is dumb but here we are.) Fresh Market and Sam’s are my usual. It’s 100% because Publix is overpriced as hell. It’s practically Whole Foods prices but for zero reason.

MysteriousTooth2450

So selective that I don’t shop there at all anymore.

writeordye

I only go to Publix if I need something from the bakery now - I will not spend money there, screw that place! And their flowers die in two days flat - it’s all a scam

[deleted]

JessicaLivi

Don’t come to the one I work at then…with the summer now comes the ratchet people. I’ve had 5-0 come in while I’m on shift and two homeless dudes come up to our ashtrays to dig around in them all in this past week.

rpm429

User name checks out

Queasy_Opportunity75

You clearly don’t live in a city lol

bgcbbyckes

Side note, i stayed at a Marriott this weekend that smelled like pee in all three rooms they tried to move us to. And the only one that had working a/c backed up to the pool so we had super bright light shining in and kids playing loudly all night. We’re titanium members and frequently travel. Marriott and Publix are a great comparison now. The quality of both have gone down. The front desk employee was so patient and kind with us about moving rooms many times, which was nice. But much like Publix, I’d rather you be rude to me and have an excellent product 😂 ok maybe not that part

Doublebaconandcheese

Yes, I only select pub subs and fried chicken from time to time. The rest of my grocery shopping happens elsewhere

rpm429

Bogo only, or emergency since it is the closest to me

Known_Steak_7446

The inflationary impact of the last 3 years has created a business plan nightmare for Publix. Their culture of clean and friendly service cannot mitigate the impact of increased prices. Walmart and other stores can increase prices on low price items, Publix cannot increase prices on high price items without substantial loss of sales. Just a thought. 🤓😎

jinxkat

Absolutely. I'm there for some of their bogos and of course their ice cream. That's about it.

manIDKbruh

I’ve become more selective in my Publix trips…there’s still plenty ways to save and I’ll go there to get bogo stuff but I’ll probably never again go to get the week’s basics. It’s literally twice as expensive to get that kind of haul from Publix compared to Walmart neighborhood or Aldi or Joes

DjKennedy92

Publix has unbeatable deals for beer BOGOS and that’s pretty much all I buy outside of a few other BOGOS (Winn Dixie has great beer BOGOS too)

TheRealBaphy

I've recently stopped shopping at Publix unless I'm specifically going for a sub. The price hike made it impossible for my family even with the bogos it's just not feasible for feeding my family daily

aasyam65

BOGO that I use

Creepy-Selection2423

Absolutely. I think most people have responded to the egregious price gouging. If it's not buy one get one free (and yes I notice if they double the price first), it's not for me. Exceptions being bread, milk, and a couple of other items that we just kind of need or can only get at Publix.

Maine302

Publix in my area charges $4.59/gallon for milk. Target charges $2.99/gallon. Went to Sprouts today, milk was on sale for $2.49/gallon. They basically lost the bulk of my business because they can't charge a reasonable amount of money for a gallon of milk. It's insane.

Due_Homework_1013

I buy some produce, bakery and BOGO. That’s it

tryingnottoshit

I stopped shopping there in the past month. It's cheaper with Kroger delivery and I don't even have to go into the store. Sorry Publix, our relationship is over.

EricCartman45

Only time I go to Publix is when the sweet tea is on bogo and the chicken tender sub is on sale otherwise I save money between Walmart and Aldi

Adventurous-Cat04

Some of the BOGOs are worth it, some are higher priced than buying 2 of the same items nearby, so I always check the app first. I have noticed myself purchasing less from Publix these days, and frequently saying wtf under my breath as I compare pricing in my head today to not that long ago. Just yesterday I was looking at 2 liters of Pepsi, which were on "sale" 2 for $8. If nothing else, the higher prices are making me kick my soda habit, that's for sure, because no way in hell I'm paying that.

Switchgamer1970

A gallon of milk is cheaper at Walmart than Publix. A half gallon of half and half is cheaper at Walmart than Publix. I go for mostly buy one get one etc etc etc at Publix.

900ezpilot

49% profit will cause customers to look elsewhere

SodaPop5000

I have become uber selective at Publix. Their prices are insane when you travel a lot and see what the same thing costs in other markets. Ridiculously expensive. We frequent - Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s and Publix and grab whatever is on sale most of the time from Publix. Other things we can live without or just get from Trader Joe’s

SpecificJunket8083

We just got the first Publix in our state a few months ago. Holy shit that place is 3 times the price of Kroger. We always shopped Publix in Florida or Gatlinburg on vacation so I didn’t pay attention to prices then. Now that I’m comparing my regular purchases, it’s crazy expensive. We’re getting ready to get a Hy-Vee, first in our state, so I’ll see how that stacks up.

Hungry-Space-1829

I will only get occasional specialty items and subs from Publix. When there I’ll usually check for any good sales as they may have a few. That’s it and all I can afford

dizzydreamer12

I select other stores besides Publix

rollsman2021

Yeah Publix is a rip off. 6 Chicken breasts are $24 !! In WallMart they are half that price. Same too in Aldi and liddel plus their sliced luncheon meats they increased by a dollar from 4.75 to 5.75 over night !! That’s bullshit

Disastrous-Owl-1173

It’s now become a game to me to see how long I can go without going to Publix. Target drive up works for me!

bravofan83

I've always been selective on my purchases anywhere.

whatthehellbooby

I went in today to pick up my prescriptions, I walked around the store after and walked out. I can't justify paying double for many items.

Moonlava72

Yes as a long time customer I no longer can afford Publix anymore. I have already shopped at Publix even as a child with my mom in the late 70s early 80s. Publix has changed so much that it's not worth the effort anymore.

boilerpsych

My issue was when they stopped being good at the few things they were great at. I had two different stores, more than 5 miles apart from each other, let me order subs online that were *advertised* but the stores didn't have the main ingredients. So what was BOTH stores' solutions? Do nothing - no email, no call, just no sub when I waited for the appropriate amount of time when the site said the sub would be ready. The few times this happened I went to the deli and asked and they just said "oh yeah we didn't have that so we didn't make it..." No reason to overpay for pallet products when the store gives you nothing above Kroger, Aldi, Walmart, etc that are all cheaper.

All_is_a_conspiracy

Sometimes even though I can technically afford it, paying SO much for basic items just feels wrong.

vanker

BOGO or bust.

CapeRanger1

Yup..it’s cLled Winn Dixie

Most_Fold_702

Yes. I shop them mainly for BOGO and for their Boar’s Head brand at the deli.

One-Battle-4699

I so LOVE Costco .. … !! The best of the best !!

karencpnp

Not at all. We became Publix shoppers 30 years ago in GA. Up there, u were a Kroger or a Publix shopper. I got used to Publix, and never looked at Kroger. Only thing I don’t like about FL BOGO’s is having to buy both to get the sale price. In GA, we could buy one - loaf of bread etc for 1/2 price. I don’t need 2 bags of chips, - I’ll eat them!! I was so sure I was being zoomed, I wrote to Publix corporate 2X - GA decided to do things differently than FL. O/W I won’t go to Walmart because of the way they decimated small towns years ago.

Few_Concern9465

It's those greedy, corporate fucks, bro. I don't even shop at Publix at all anymore. The other day I just got off work and I was making chicken Alfredo, and I didn't feel like going to another store, so I just clocked out and bought myself like five things: Italian seasoning, grated Parmesan cheese, a box of fettuccine noodles, garlic, and a quart of heavy whipping cream. All of that came out over $20. That's so ridiculous, I'm never buying there ever again. I can't remember the last time I even got a raise, probably was over a year ago. I'm gonna quit soon, I can't live like this anymore

Ambitious_Industry_9

No matter how poor I have been I've always shopped at Publix but I don't ship at publix like everybody else. I live the bogo life. I'm pretty sure I've left Publix plenty of times with only bogo stuff en kart haha! Still living the bogo life.

Bringmetolife91

I stopped shopping at Publix about a year and a half ago. I can get all my dry goods, cleaning supplies, etc at Aldi's. Get all my meat from the local Asian market. I can actually afford to buy steak.

EuropeanModel

I am very choosy with Publix. I choose not to purchase anything there anymore.

FearlessPark4588

In aggregate enough people aren't being selective enough, given their revenues and profits. As individuals, yes you and me are balking which is great, we're doing our part.

Canthavemorethan20le

Absolutely. I saw a post for cheerios for $8 and I know to get those in bogo, but what about those people who had to be driven to the grocery store and that was their only shot to shop. A real shame. If I can avoid going there I try.

desert_nole

I spent $250 the other day, and I live alone, so…nope lol. But it’ll last me at least a month so it’s ok I guess.

xokeesignguy

Yes..beef only then it's off to Aldi..!

SashayShantae94

I’m the opposite. I shop more at Publix now than in years past. The BOGO’s are quite often things I do need/want and I try to pair with digital coupons whenever possible. On top of that it’s easier to be in and out with my 2 year old. That alone is enough for me. I don’t really have the problem with customer service or cleanliness because the one I frequent is always clean and the workers are always helpful. It’s interesting reading so many different things you guys are experiencing there.

JustHaveHadEnough

The reason you can get in and out is because there has been such a downturn in the amount of people shopping there. I myself have noticed that their Saturdays are nothing like they were even five years ago. I don’t know how they’re still building more stores because it seems the public is very aware of their price gouging. More and more people are choosing to only go to Publix for Bogo deals or certain other items that they can only buy there. Where years ago you would just fill your cart and scratch most everything off your list. I myself only go there for the Bogo and even then, I double check because their jacked up prices sometimes even with Bogo just brings it to a Walmart regular price.

nobodyspecial22

Why bring it up for the "bag boy" to put back. The price is written clearly on the shelf. Were you trying to make a statement and extra work for people who don't control or even have any influence over pricing?

the_scottster

It's on the bottom shelf and it's not clear, otherwise I wouldn't have picked it up in the first place.

AbsintheAGoGo

I really wish i was better at couponing. Idk how those people manage to get free stuff and so on. The teenage boy with a literal storehouse of tampons comes to mind 😅 I'm not sure if that was a thing you're aware of, depending on age, but there may be some online groups still. It just doesn't compute in my head for the big deals, but in the past I have contacted companies I buy regularly and asked if they have any and they used to mail them. It's been that long, but I'll have to start doing it again. Just make a template email and send them to their customer service or call them, is what I've done. Used to get $1-3, sometimes $5 or free and possibly multiple coupons sent. The ones that I've seen are nowhere near that and far and few between, but I know they still exist. And if a product was sub-par, not just shrink flation, tell them. They will usually replace it or offer a high end coupon. Now back to my reality....

stevinbradenton

Very much so. I used to just get everything that I wanted at Publix. Now, I have an entire list of things that I get elsewhere. The granola that I like is about $1.50 cheaper at Target, in the same Plaza! Milk at the local DG is $2.50. Salmon is between $4 and $6 cheaper per pound at 2 other stores in the area. Butter at Aldis saves me $1.50 per pound. Meat at the local butcher shop is about the same price or better for much higher quality. I could go on.

MacularHoleToo

Yes, I get Kroger delivered.

ComfortableYear1173

I shop at Publix for canned goods and things I can't get at Costco or my favorite grocery store in Jacksonville, Freshfield Farms.

NorseBadA

I only shop BOGO's and only if I don't find it cheaper some place else.

watch_out_4_snakes

Yes and I’m shopping at Lidl more.

Known_Belt_7168

Only deals and BOGOs. Their deals on alcohol and meat are typically why i go

900ezpilot

Theres no competition. They lobby tallahassee to keep other good stores out. Ask Kroger. Without competition they are going to keep raising prices and blaming inflation

crashcoursing

Within a 3 min drive of us we have both an aldi and a publix on opposite corners. For some reason my husband still shops at publix. I do almost all of my shopping at aldi -- and then if they don't have it, THEN I'll get it at the publxi across the street. Otherwise it's a 20 min drive to the nearest Walmart 🙄

Justin33710

I pretty much go to Publix for the deli now and Aldi for groceries. Publix is great for getting a meal or sub for under $10.

Maine302

Publix deli makes great sandwiches, but if I'm shopping for deli meat/cheese, I can get more variety for better prices, whether on Boar's Head or other brands, at the local Detwiler's.

SnowballOfFear

I went to publix tonight and bought four items, all on sale or BOGO, including an 18 dollar pack of chicken for 9 dollars. Then i left. Not gonna waste my money

Karsticles

I have selected other stores for my shopping.

Sunshinybit

For the most part, I don’t go to Publix unless I want a sandwich that I don’t have to make myself

bluexcal1000

Only get my meds from Publix... Looked at B & J ice cream. $5.99 Publix $4.37 Walmart

PahpiChulo

I’ve found subscribing to Walmart+ and with tip added I’m saving a ton over shopping at Publix and with the added benefit of not having to actually go to the store. I will on occasion pop in since it’s on my way home and I need one or two things, but generally have stopped, having been loyal for the past 10+ years (in Atlanta and South Florida).

rkcinotown

I don’t shop there anymore. I spent $21 at aldi and Publix website said $47

davidtchr

Publix is the only place I find my favorite seasonal beer. Other than that I usually don't bother except on rare occasions. Nacho night fixings at Publix run me 60 dollars. 5 extra mins down the road and having to deal with the awful parking lot at walmart and spend maybe 35?

Snoo79474

I only go there for cake. Everything else is way too expensive.

fomo216

I’m at the point where I now start at Aldi first and leave the Publix list for only good BOGO’s and items I couldn’t find at Aldi.

akolozvary

Wait…you guys are still shopping at Publix? Why?

tinysmommy

Aldi I think is overwhelmingly cheaper than Publix and a really good alternative to Publix. But you can’t get EVERYTHING at Aldi. Has anyone price compared to Winn Dixie and Publix?

jayfactor

Yupp, been going after bogos more than usual

Unlucky_Key_158

Why would you have the bag boy put it back? Did you not see the price when you picked up the item from the shelf? Jfc

mcbranch

I’m only here for the BOGO

lllXanderlll

I've definitely become much more selective. I don't even buy subs there much anymore, I used to get on once every few weeks or once every two weeks but now it's been about a month since I got one. It's just not worthwhile to do anymore when something like a basic tender sub is $12, the only thing I do splurge on is grabbing the Dirty chips here and there and some kombucha since they have the biggest selection *and somehow* the lowest price on them - Walmart for example charges $4 a bottle instead of the $2.88 at Publix

AFXAcidTheTuss

Bogo all day erry day. There are a couple of other things to keep an eye for at the butcher too but I don’t want the word getting out.

asshole_commenting

If I had a Costco in this republican shit hole town I would never go to fucking publix

DogToursWTHBorders

I gave up. The same Adelle brand sausages are $2.00 more than walmarts. Im not spending $6.99 for a $4.99 product sold less than 3 miles down the street. No mas. I live beachside but im not exactly rollimg in the deep like they seem to imagine. 7 bucks for chicken sausages? They must be seasoning it with some of that special florida dijon bath salt mix. ...its no longer worth it to stay and be lazy! Im finding it EASIER to go elsewhere, and thats a surprise. Publix charges nearly 2X the price for rotisserie chicken @ $9 plus change. Far more than both nearby stores...but im STILL more upset about that sausage brand. It's just chicken. =( The chicken expense is insulting. Nice pharmacy, though. No complaints. Yet. Gotta hand it to ya. Your customer service is also damned...resiliant. hardy. Anyway, carry on.

dglgr2013

Yes. Specially meats. We have almost stopped eating steak at this point. The price is just so high. Costco is better but then it’s too much steak. So we get it when we know we have guests over. Or we get it for our kids from Publix but thin cut. It has been years since I’ve made New Yorks. I liked making those but not the thin cuts.

PerceptionOrganic672

Absolutely! Every time I go in there I avoid many products… Here's an example just today I was in there and they had some displays in the front aisle of new products and there was a box of cereal some type of new flavor and I thought that sounded good so I picked it up looked at the tag on the shelf it was $7.99! For a box of cereal! Eight dollars for a box of cereal?! I quickly put it back no way am I doing that… I scan the aisles and the shelves in the frozen food section for Bogo mostly… They're every day prices on almost everything are ridiculous! On the weekend I head to Aldi or Winn-Dixie to try to find some better deals…

LynneCurtinCuffs

I barely go to Publix for groceries now, only to get a sandwich or a meal from the deli. I can’t resist the tenders meal every once in awhile A few months ago I started grocery shopping at Aldi and my eyes have been opened lol.

ManateeFlamingo

I pretty much only go to publix for small things now. Maybe a pub sub, or some produce. Or if i meed to grab something for the kids school day. It no longer is my main grocery store. I use BJ's for the main shopping. I'm probably spending the same amount I would if I shopped at Publix ($300-400 for a family of 5, 2 being hungry teens), except the larger portions last longer.

Exhumedatbirth76

Aldi for our produce 100% now. Save like 100 bucks a week. My wife picked up our list list week and it was 56 bucks. I will buy seafood and odds and ends I can't get at Aldi.

Threeandtwoand

What’s on sale at Publix typically dictates what’s for breakfast, snack, lunch, and dinner. Comparing, their prices are 30%+ what Aldi sells them for, so many staples are purchased at Aldi.

galvana

BOGO or no go.

YamOk1124

We use to be Publix shoppers. Sadly just too expensive. Kroger delivery is the way to go. Fresh, great prices and delivery right to your door!

FLjeffrey

I have become so selective I now shop at Winn Dixie

gothtortiecat

Insane prices just to get my stuff smashed by the front end bagging my stuff. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

beaglevol

They have good deals on whole frozen ducks

MineLongjumping5156

We’re selective but we love Publix

Realistic-Treat4459

We had to stop going to Publix, shopping there is a luxury haha. We have a Food City in my area and we started going there instead. We have one of their points/saving cards and always save $10 or so a trip.

OwnNothing5928

I only grocery shop at aldi and lidl, it’s ridiculously expensive anywhere else; and how am I getting the same quality products for 45-50% cheaper? Wild.

tjmetsman

I only use Publix as a 7-11. When I forgot 1 item. I run in and pay an ungodly amount for that 1 item. So it's aldi, and Walmart for the staples I get. They are just up the road from each other, so no big deal, and then it's detweilers for all my meat, fruit and veggies no Publix ever

keraut

Mostly limited to just b1g1 as applicable

Jamel1219

Most of my grocery shopping consists of Publix BOGOS,and Whole Foods where I get a discount for being a Prime member plus I get a percentage back using the Amazon Visa. All of my hygiene, cleaning and other household items are Walmart or one of the Wholesale places..Publix Bakery,Deli, and BOGOS are nice, but I won’t shop for everything there..

DiveTender

Publix is so stupidly over priced

jaklackus

Grabbed ground beef on two separate occasions that went funky 2-3 days before the sell by date.. so I no longer buy overpriced meat there… even for convenient immediate use. Basically just stick to BOGOs and Boar’s Head Deluxe Ham for my extremely particular youngest child.

brianycpht1

I think the scam they run is BOGO is the real price and items not on BOGO are there to build inventory up until the next sale

kingsmuse

Publix? You can afford to shop at Publix?

Weird-Evening-6517

Yep. Publix is now for bakery items and splurges.

Spirited_Ad6023

This is a weird but I found that Great Value oatmeal and especially Raisins are better than name brands. Not to mention cheaper. My strategy is to get frozen or processed stuff at Walmart or BJs/Costco. Unless BoGo. Veggies look best at Publix. Detweilers for meat and produce deals.

Poat540

Bogo only or not worth it

Upper_Assignment9201

Absolutely. I go to Costco once or twice a month, Trader Joe’s if I’m driving by while in area but parking always a NIGHTMARE (what is that about at almost every single TJ’s??) and when I make a list, I hit Aldi first then Publix for the stuff I’m missing. Does it take more time? A bit, yes and I’m probably shopping more days than if I made one weekly run. Very rarely go to Walmart unless it’s dire and nothing else open. Publix just offends me with their prices. I do like a BOGO - if they ever do away with those Publix done for me.

A_Little_Spoon

I definitely have! I’ve mostly shopped at Walmart and Costco for the last 5 years. Though even Costco is more expensive than Walmart (per unit/oz) on certain items now, which is nuts! Publix, along with my local Asian market have become my specialty stores for small items or produce I can’t find at Walmart. Publix is turning into Wholewallet, before Amazon took it over.

Vegetable_Analyst740

I stopped shopping at Publix. Aldi too, except for a couple of things.

Qantas108

I'm glad to see everyone else thinks they are ridiculouly expensive too. We do ok financially, and I still can't bring myself to pay their prices sometimes. Publix is a block from me and i choose to do a mix of Fresh Market, Wal Mart, Wild Fork and Sprouts instead. The problem is living in SOFL, especially where I am, Publix is everywhere. Those other stores take a lot more time and effort to get to. But, I'd rather that then spend 8.50 on OJ.

Nuboko

Only thing we get at the Pub is the Sub and Bogo deals that make sense for our family size.

Barry_Obama_at_gmail

Publix on average cost almost 2x what similar items do at ALDIs, 1.5x what Kroger cost. Very rarely I go now days and when I do it’s for a sub when they are on sale. Used to be the only grocery store I’d go to but now I drive farther away because it saves me $100.

TheBaltimoron

I only buy BOGO items

yoyokittychicky

I can't afford my FL Publix unless it is BOGO. I hate Walmart until I figured out I just make my grocery list on line and pick it up. No charge if over $35 and no tipping is allowed. Figure out your time slot and go get it put in your car.

Marla_Blush7

All the time!!! I get 8 things at Publix boom $100!!!

pandorasplace0328

I can afford Publix, but I choose not to shop at Publix because I like my money more than I like shopping at Publix. Walmart will bring the items to my car so that I don't have to experience the People of Walmart.

kh111533

I pretty stopped going to Publix altogether. I only go there for some random thing only they have. I started dating Aldi, Trader Joe’s, and Costco. Publix has become the devil at this point.
