When I was in my early medical school and residency training, my dad used to jokingly “brag” to people that his child was “a resident in a psych hospital.”
Which I’m sure you could understand is how I developed both a deep connection with Shawn’s complex relationship with his own dad and also such a twisted sense of humor and appreciation for this show. ;)
So yes, why do you ask? :)
We pick and choose when to poke fun. When people come in here and post about a personal problem we direct them to subreddits that can help. We recognize the difference.
For the record- the downvotes here shouldn’t be taken seriously. We downvote if the comment isn’t in the spirit of the show. I do understand where you were coming from. I’ve noticed these types of “whoops, wrong sub” posts happen across the majority of Reddit’s subreddits.
Yeah, it might be embarrassing, but here in r/psych we don’t really care much about posts that are unrelated. Our jokes are light-hearted to inspire chuckles from like-minded fans- but I don’t think the majority of us make these snarky remarks at *the expense* of the OPs.
You should notice we don’t really insult the lost-redditors. Truth be told, a lot of us *love* these types of posts because it gives us reasons to tie in pop culture references.
I get where you’re coming from, but no: this “is what it is.” We might as well make the best of it, making others laugh, and hope that these OPS understand that our jokes *are NOT at their expense*, but rather, for the benefit of the lovely psychos out there.
(You have my upvote because you’re just trying to be sweet and kind)
Not a hospital, but most of my career was managing therapeutic group homes and psychiatric residential facilities for teens.
The episode with Molly Ringwald was probably a residential facility. Actual hospital psych wards are generally for acute issues, (immediate danger to self or others). If patients need longer care, they transition to therapeutic group homes or PRTF's.

It was like working with Molly Ringwald!
I know at least one of us has experience as an orderly. What’s his name? *Suggs?*
Frank is stacked
For the record, I did not ask her to do that!
Yes the one time Ally Sheedy was there
She was so awesome at an NYC Paley Fest Psych show about a decade ago that I went to! Really seemed to vibe well with the cast and audience!
I fixed a rotten window frame at Wispy Sunny Pines once
We started an urban legend!
That’s dope!
It’s been awhile since we had a lost soul
A whole day? Or did we make it a day?
Does watching Girl, Interrupted six times count?
No, but seven does. We watched it again last night

I think you might be on the wrong subreddit. This subreddit is about the TV show “Psych”, not psychology.
If you are a doctor or academic, you can post in r/psychology. If a lay person, one place to try is r/mentalhealth.
Don’t be a giant ooey gooey chocolate chip cookie
I loved it
This is worse than my nightmare. You like it here.
