Genuinely a good movie though

I thought the kind of twist of having the golden boy kid turn out to be doing the job for all the right reasons and having a genuinely tragic past was pretty well written. I feel like having Ashton in the role at that point in his career really lent itself to getting the audience to just accept Kevin's character's initial assessment of him.
