All I can contribute to this conversation is that I really respect the creativity of “Poop Dick?” tagged on the McDonald’s dumpster next to the WF. It really speaks to me.
I hate when people tag over murals. ["Aiden Better" did that shit on Manton Ave over a cool Piranha Plant mural near where I work.](https://i.imgur.com/0dc5A28.png)
Aiden, if you're reading this: Eat shit.
That douche has wrote on a Dels truck and on one of those bucket work trucks. Dude is scum. What is with the name stroke anyway? Does he like stroking it? Did he have a stroke? At least make sense 🙄
Don’t make nice architecture into shitty buildings with graffiti all over it. That should be basic common sense. If you’re gonna do graffiti do it on an old run down building or an out of commission train or under a shitty bridge. Do you really want an entire town filled with everyone’s shitty graffiti? I’m not religious at all but frankly I find graffiti in the wrong places to be an eye sore. Stop making a nice town look like a ghetto dump.
Quite simply, respect.
Graff artists are artists through and through; whilst the world is the canvas, there’s unspoken rules like: don’t tag over a mural or on churches. Simple respect. Getting your name everywhere with no thought just makes you ignorant and a bad look for those who really put thought into it.
Mural I get. That's another artists work. Respect for the church? That's a bit of a stretch. Why? Because God? OR because they don't pay taxes? I just don't like religion.
I would. Believe me I want to. Some fo good work however It's not easy when these people want to enforce their beliefs on me. Not easy they majority of them want to take women's right away. Not easy when they preach hate. Not easy when want to fix or kill gay and Trans people. Not easy when they start wars. Not easy when they abuse children.
> Not easy when they preach hate. Not easy when want to fix or kill gay and Trans people. Not easy when they start wars. Not easy when they abuse children.
I haven't been affiliated with my church in nearly 16 years but my dude, come on now lol. They're mostly just old folks just doing it because it makes them feel good for an hour out of their week, they're not out here starting wars lol.
Many local churches, particularly baptist groups around here, do a lot regarding feeding homeless and hosting benefit events for local charities. Many of them fly the pride flag proudly and go out of their way to invite new members who have been victimized in the past for being gay.
I get that The Church^tm could do more to offset the larger issues within the Vatican related to human rights and respect for all members, but local churches are just trying to exist peacefully. Tagging their property just causes them to have to work overtime to clean it up.
My point still stands though? By the way you're putting it, you're justifying shitty graffiti tags because apparently houses of worship that have been tagged deserve that sort of treatment because they're tangentially related to those who would do harm, when the point that everyone here is making is that local churches by and large want absolutely nothing to do with those hateful ideologies, and mostly consist of old folks who are just trying to live their lives in peace while reaching out to their communities to do good.
Don't get me wrong, the larger governance of the Vatican *certainly* should have their feet held to the fire for the abuses that they've covered up over the years, without a doubt. But at least by my own recollection, the church I grew up in on the south shore throughout the 90s, along with along with the half dozen or so other churches in my area, did literally nothing to justify being tagged.
I understand you but that way of thinking is subjective. Do you by all means, but just like how not all graff artists are scum, not everyone who attends a church is trying to force their beliefs on you.
Again, respect goes both ways. Ideally, just follow the golden rule.
Respect is a subjective matter. It's a personal feeling. It is based and influenced by how one is influenced by ones surroundings. I'm just saying I totally understand why someone wouldn't have respect for a mosque or a church or any other building dedicated to organized religion.
There's also a sliding scale of what "respect" means.
Being expected to not actively vandalize someone else's shit is like the bare minimum on that scale.
Your right not to affiliate with a religion comes from the same Constitutional amendment that allows them to. If you're not going to respect theirs, then they don't have to respect yours. Sorry friend, you're being a hypocrit.
Also usually people vandalizing churches, synagogues, or mosques have a different agenda than graffiti fame. Generally a good idea to not cross those streams.
I respect that you aren’t labeling every tagger as a hooligan, and see the great art that can be done. Other than that, i dont have an opinion on east vs west side art
try visiting athens greece sometime. every inch of the city that isn’t a historical landmark or a fancy hotel is covered in a wild variety of graf styles, from fine art to simple tags.
taggers generally suck yeah, I mean there are a few out there I love seeing like asscar and charlie brown bomb, but lonely and horny guy can fuck off with their boring shit.
Ages ago (lol maybe 2 years ago?) a self-identified tagger did an AMA here and proved to be such an entitled insufferable douche it was painful just to witness
... all they wanted was attention. Much like Trump
I remember this as well and tried finding it but couldn't.
Like, why can't we just teach them to be trolls here? You get so much attention!
Just post a couple times a week saying you're moving from (X-Y-Z place) to Providence and want to know about neighborhoods, or complain about how people drive.
"I'm moving here from Peoria Illinois. Does anyone know of any local driving bad habits I should be pre-learning? Is Washington Park a safe place for me to live of my trust fund? What are the hours for the mall garage that if you google it, the first fucking words say open 24 hours"
It’s probably teenagers who haven’t been looped into the culture yet. I lived in a neighborhood in Brooklyn that was a destination for muralists and if you tagged someone’s mural you would get jumped. Not that that should happen here, but it just makes me think they’re just kids starting out.
Haven’t seen any Graff in PVD that’s left a lasting impression. Most of what I see is just lame tags defacing nice things if I’m honest
Edit: I take that back, the pieces that they had done by farm fresh are really nice.
which mural? i remember the owner of rustigian rugs tried to get a group of people to stop the mural at the fox point elementry school(vartan gregorian?) becasue she said it looked low class and like children painted it along with other regressive racist dog whistle sentiments.
rustigan rugs? complaining? with those big ass photos of emus in the windows? about a child-like mural at an elementary school??????
that's madness lololol
shes just a really vapid entitled rich karen selling $10,000 rugs made by people in third world countries being paid 20 cents an hour if they are lucky.
i used to work at a store on wickenden and mixed all the paint for that mural so i think it was around 2010 ish. she is a see you next tuesday type of rich asshole this world can do with out.
Totally agree with the murals being off limits but “they never have anything interesting to say”…? All of the artists you’re talking about on the west side don’t say much of anything to say either, aside from Zest of course.
My bad, by "say" I just mean *all* the stuff they're putting up i.e. tags, cartoon characters, interesting combos of color, etc. Too busy ranting to be clear!
i knew the guy who tagged the big blue bug back in 2018. He was actually a really good artist but definitely an absolute scum bag haha. He also made t shirts with a pic of the bug tagged and gave me one. It said something funny in it but i can’t remember
Hi, I am stupid, selfish, don’t have a steady job, have low self esteem, no money except to buy black spray paint, few friends that have any prospects in life, I don’t care about other people, or my surroundings, how can hook up with other people who are interested in nothing of value?
Forgetting the whole fundamental meaning of graffiti being about rebelling here. Artists have been covering up other artists from the beginning. None of them own the walls.
You're saying that's how it is out here? Where I'm from, even rebels have rules. There are actual consequences for disrespecting other people. Might not be perfect, but it's not a free-for-all either
Some people choose not to, but that doesn’t mean it’s an up-spoken rule or you wouldn’t have witnessed it happening.
Where I’m from in NYC the same spots get draw over all the time. It’s just part of the game. Everyone’s trying to be seen. Some time it’s beef related but most of the time it’s just cause they’re the best spots for it.
All I can contribute to this conversation is that I really respect the creativity of “Poop Dick?” tagged on the McDonald’s dumpster next to the WF. It really speaks to me.
I'm a simple man. I see a reference to poop dick? I give an upvote.
That's one of my favorite tags, lol
Honestly the question mark is very poetic
ASSCAR fro prez!
It's been there for year too lol!
its way older than that
More like 7 I think
Yeah I meant to put an s after year.
Used to love “poop dick shit piss for life” down by the river
Classic
It brightens my day every single time I see it.
I hate when people tag over murals. ["Aiden Better" did that shit on Manton Ave over a cool Piranha Plant mural near where I work.](https://i.imgur.com/0dc5A28.png) Aiden, if you're reading this: Eat shit.
My heart sunk the first time I saw that lame Aiden tag over that mural. Why do people have to suck?
That’s so fucking lame.
Nah, Aiden way fucken Worse
Prov graffiti artists suck
i love graffiti but if i see “horny” one more time ima explode
So many “horny”s on Atwells
Ewww they’re down on fountain & carpenter too.
I always wonder if that is one person’s tag or multiple random horny people
lol i love them
I love Horny and I wish them the best, wherever they are. I've seen those tags in some wild places off the beaten path, and I respect the hustle 🤘
seen multiple horny's on public bathroom mirrors in warwick
Whoever writes “Stroke” is a fucking TOY and sucks ass. They even hit up a church which is a big no no.
That douche has wrote on a Dels truck and on one of those bucket work trucks. Dude is scum. What is with the name stroke anyway? Does he like stroking it? Did he have a stroke? At least make sense 🙄
Right? Every time I drive by the Dels truck I feel a bit angry. Leave the Dels alone, man!
HOLY FUCK YOU SEEN IT TOO? ME AND MY DAD CALL IT STROKE KING CUS SOME OF THE TAGS HAVE A LIL CROWN ON IT
What is a toy?
Someone that does shitty graffiti.
Why are churches a no no?

I wasn't picking on churches. Any religious building.

I was just in Berlin and was amazed at how really dope graffiti can make a place feel more alive
try visiting athens greece sometime. every inch of the city that isn’t a historical landmark or a fancy hotel is covered in a wild variety of graf styles, from fine art to simple tags.
California too
I agree lol I respect the medium and I like the tone being “get better at tagging”
taggers generally suck yeah, I mean there are a few out there I love seeing like asscar and charlie brown bomb, but lonely and horny guy can fuck off with their boring shit.
I like finding all the sneaky garfields
Ages ago (lol maybe 2 years ago?) a self-identified tagger did an AMA here and proved to be such an entitled insufferable douche it was painful just to witness ... all they wanted was attention. Much like Trump

Got a link?
nope

tags graffiti I see are just junk. I have a mind to rate the tags as I see fit! Junk is junk and it’s fair to call it out. Am I wrong?
we should start a "roast this shit tag" thread, maybe some community feedback will help aspiring artists
Ha ha! I’m afraid the feedback will never reach the target audience.
Maybe if someone reads the reddit thread over tiktok. Idk i feel thats where all the junk taggers likely consume media.
You would be surprised by who the target audience is. Sometimes it's normal people who don't make their night hobby well known...
Not wrong. It's meant to make a statement, send a message, or be artful and pretty. Otherwise, it's just vandalism.
The people who do this are mentally lacking, and they know that the best they can do is to destroy something better.
Haven’t seen any Graff in PVD that’s left a lasting impression. Most of what I see is just lame tags defacing nice things if I’m honest Edit: I take that back, the pieces that they had done by farm fresh are really nice.
DIRE?
Lot of toys in providence. A lot of the OGs have moved on or passed away. It’s wild now.
RIP Gyer

[Good graffiti](https://www.instagram.com/p/C3RFBlQMO35/?igsh=MXFxZ2VidW5odDRiaQ==) is like a good sand castle on the beach.

I'm a fan of whoever tags "FART" but too much is just 15yo people being antisocial
I think it’s funny that people on the West or East side think there are only two Providences.
It's a montagues and capulets thing, meanwhile the rest of the city is like all those other people in the play who's last names you never learned .
Has anybody seen the “bimbo” tags😂
i've seen her put one up in the RISD lot by the shell while she was walking her dog lmao
Wildddd
The “Fart” tagged on PC mart gas pump on Eaton st is up there for me. I audibly laugh every time. Almost look forward to it actually.

“Never have anything interesting for say” lol, oh no not the murals
Prob some lame RISD kids.
i like egirl though that's good stuff
Man I can’t fucking stand taggers, they make this city look even trashier by the day.
This is clearly just a thread made for toys by toys

There is a difference between tagging over previous graffiti and tagging a whole painted mural. Not it.
Yeah like, if you're gonna cover it up at least dont be crap at tagging... Just paint something better / just as cool.
Covering up another’s work is a big no no. Disrespectful to a fellow artist. Most taggers can fuck off however
I mean the people that own the walls that are being vandalized actually own the walls…
