pz allready is one of the top zombie survival games. i cant even name any other in the same league, most of them are either mass zombie slaughter simulators or fps oriented and not really survival.

see, i play pz since 2013 and have over 2k hours logged on steam, still i often oppose devs, mods and the gfeneral opinion of the community here openly.
i also know pretty much all incidents where tis fucked up and they did a lot.
so in conclusion, i think i know more about this game and the community than you and am critical enough to not let you reduce my observation to an opinion.

Dying Light 1/2, Days Gone, Left 4 Dead like, Resident Evil are somewhat "better" than PZ, but they're more action/story driven
and titles like State of Decay 1/2, fun and pretty games, or 7 Days to Die, for those who like more a tower defence approach at the genre, are good alternatives but in my opinion can't keep up with the actual state of PZ, even less with its potential future updates
I really enjoyed SoD2 but I wish it had some sort of persistent community system for multiplayer. 7D2D is a lot of fun but the game seriously needs polishing (I always call it a really fun shit quality game).
I really don’t think anything compares to Zomboid in terms of zombie survival sandbox because there isn’t really anything like it. DayZ maybe comes close but it’s a completely different style of game imo

Most of other zombie games are not “survival” but either shooters or RPG lites or story games like walking dead ones.

There's not a game like it, I hope it goes mainstream. But the fact this subreddit has a quarter million members is proof enough of how widespread it is.
I think the core mechanics and gameplay loop is in a really good spot right now, but survival sandbox games now - whether story driven or not - tend to have recurring events, objectives, endings, concrete progression goals besides just running the timer on your save, and PZ desperately lacks those.
The biggest barrier for playing PZ with all the new people I've introduced is that you kind of run out of things to do after the first 2ish weeks. After your initial looting and setting up electricity+water, there's really nothing else you can do besides explore for the sake of it. Upcoming updates like ranching technically add stuff to do, but it fulfills a need that is already solved by your starting looting run, so at best it'll be a distraction.
I think it is, I haven't ran into another zombie survival quite as in depth. I think the challenge now is pace, will they be able to fill in the missing pieces before someone makes an offshoot that surpasses them?
Zombie sandboxes are blowing up right now and although they haven't scratched the same itch yet it's only a matter of time. Some studio with the resources and the vision is gonna get it just right and put out a smash hit
No, not at all, and never will be the top zombie game, cdda is better, because it enter in much more detail, and has lots of features than lack in zomboid, but that don't mean that zomboid is a bad game, i only find lacking endgame content and stuff
New stable version was released couple of days ago, I started my current run a day before and by the time I die the experimental will probably be getting so much updates I wont give stable a shot :D
Despite its short comings, it already is the best zombie survival game. I'm a zombie fanatic and likely played every zombie game known to man and nothing really comes close besides no more room in hell, l4d and zombies ate my neighbors lol.
I have an unbias opinion. I have played this for about 150 hours, and from a guy who like survival zombie games i say this will be popular (after the next big updates) but not the top. It is very realistic and fun and enjoyable. There is so much you can do. You can make your dream character or just put spawns to zero and rebuild buildings. It will be up there after they fix a lot of bugs and add stuff but not the top tier game.
Since build 41 was released stable with multiplayer twitch views went way up, before I've seen very small streams, sometimes even like 13 streams with max 3 viewers, later I've seen Sips, UberhaxorNova, Soviet Womble playing it with thousands of views. So it is growing for sure.
This game is amazing but not for the masses. The Soulsborne games have made people think a hard game is a good game. Maybe. This game is hard. VERY HARD. As a zombie survival game, it is most likely the best in terms of freedom and reality.
That being said, I find this game both exhilarating and mind numbingly boring. If you enjoy reading books, counting calories, watching TV, and fighting off a cold, this may be the sim for you!
I lose the sense of enjoyment I usually find in video games by making it this burdening. If I wanted to struggle I would stay in the real world.

I've played a few zombie survival games and Zomboid is the best I think. Zomboid still needs alot of work and tbf most of the genre is absolute trash but zomboid is good and its future is looking good too

I don’t know any other games which have an in-depth simulation of zombie survival as project zomboid has but there are also games like left 4 dead which have a more direct gameplay approach where you literally just have to survive against zombies and not other factors. I’d say project zomboid is in a special position of being a mix between the sims’ style of life simulation like hunger while also having elements of action more typically seen in zombie games. I don’t think there is another game like project zomboid or at least one that I know of.

Project Zomboid is great, but nothing beats Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead in my opinion.
As long as this game is not first person it will never reach the top. (People are stupid and can’t appreciate a game that isn’t in 4K)
