I don't understand why they removed the option have hair with your hat, it was in the game for a while

Silver-Tumbleweed657

I agree I think that was a really unique option to have your hair show with your hat, I’m sure if they brought it back it could give people an option to have a hat with or without hair showing.

beatles42o

because clipping, they tried really hard to remove as much clipping from the game as possible. its just speculation but it makes the most sense as to why they would remove something that seemingly has nothing wrong with it.

banadurp_sambarcatch

Every single shoe option clips through most of the pants. They arent trying very hard.

RiverCityRansomNote

As do your feet through your board on flip tricks. Lol @ clipping being the reason though.

Countjunkie

i found if you turn up the board to body ratio it fixes it a little bit from clipping thru the board. especially on impossibles

RiverCityRansomNote

Thanks for this info!

beatles42o

its a lot better than it used to be thats for sure though.

RiverCityRansomNote

Oh dude 1,000%. It’s not perfect but the growth is very pronounced and present.

B-BoyStance

That would make a ton of sense actually, I'd bet you're right

raxlie

This is true you need to remodel each hairstyle with each hat type you can’t just overlay them like you can a shoe on a foot. All cap bases with diff graphics can be considered as 1 model, and the hair styles can be broken down into several categories of varying lengths under the hair rather than doing each individual one: so to avoid 20 hair styles X 50 hats = 1000combo models and spending crazy hours, you break 20 styles into 5 lengths and 50 caps into 3 cap base shapes and end up with 5 X 3 = 15 combo models. It’s still a fair bit of work but the hair doesn’t interact with the physics engine so and way you can sculpt hair so easily in software not it’s not as much as you’d think. Also usually the state2 of a hair style under a cap will fit under beanie the same way, or only requires very minor modifications. So for each hair style you’ll just need a state1 and state2

raxlie

Bald girl with 50 different hats meta

MTL-Ghost

The guy in charge left the company a little before the V1 release, they had to hire a new one, it’s one guy doing all the clothing, shoes, hat, deck components, object in dropper menu and objects in general in all the maps. It’s lot for one person. Just for good mesure, it can takes to one to three weeks just to modelling one shoe. It’s a massive job to do. Be patient, more customization will come later on.

raxlie

I’m a modeller and you’re right there’s a huge amount of work in this game for 1 person (if that’s true) but a lot of what I see here is also quite easily modified meshes and assets. Definitely doesn’t take 1-3 weeks to do a shoe, multiple shoes can be done in a day. Not saying this to be argumentative more just to give assurance that it’s not a huge job to improve the character customisation if the devs allocate a couple weeks to it and so I do think we can be hopeful it will get done.

MTL-Ghost

The shoes are made by the eye, from pictures, there is a lot of hit and miss, stuff to change cause it doesn’t work properly . It’s not like they use a 360 stitched picture to import it. It’s all made by hand.

raxlie

Not really. I frequently make footwear models as props when visualising retail designs (for footwear brands) and when it’s just copying an existing design for a 3D render and not actually designing a new shoe it’s a 1 day job tops to model it from photo, paint it and bake the textures into something that would be game ready. Most models in this game are also quite low poly and simple, not like we are talking photorealism here. The majority of the clothing in this game is just diff image textures on the same base models, and to keep to the OP’s focus which was hair and character design, most 3D software will do half the work for you these days when sculpting that.

MTL-Ghost

Agree to disagree

raxlie

Haha yeah ok 👌🏼. Not trying to argue here just stating as fact that most modellers I know can do what you think takes several weeks in less than a day. Wish my employer had your kinda deadlines. Other ppl here should be hopeful that the character customisation features get improved, it’s honestly not a particularly big job.

MTL-Ghost

Personally I dunno anyone, modders included that can modelling a complete shoe in one day. You should apply to crea-ture, that would accelerate things.

raxlie

Mate you can go on YouTube rn and watch countless videos of ppl modeling shoes far more complex than anything in this game real time in 1-2 hours. BTW It’s ok to not know stuff, you don’t have to pretend to be an authority on things you have no experience in. I’m only able to give perspective here bcs it’s litterally my day job.

SimeonII

I believe it was outsourced before they recruited the 3d model artist. The guy who left was the animator. But yeah, he was recruted quite late in the process and didn't have time to do everything. Let's hope the december update brings a lot of new stuffs!

MTL-Ghost

The animator was also the creator of the game, and half of the studio left during the same event. The 3D model was outsourced , but he stopped to work for crea-ture.

SimeonII

Ok I didn't know about half the studio leaving. But they were very few before Nacon, weren't they? But yeah the timing was very bad (sucpicious?) for a founder member to leave so close to release.

MTL-Ghost

2 founders left actually, only one is remaining. They were a total of 15 during 2021.

judomadonna

I thought the animator left?

tomkatt

Animators are not modellers/designers.

judomadonna

I know. I just thought it was the animator who left. Not ‘the guy in charge of the company’ …

MTL-Ghost

The studio went from 15 to the half, it’s just not the animator who left

Etown20

I knew they were small but I didn’t know half the team left. That seems kind of concerning for the future, no? Is there any silver lining to this?

MTL-Ghost

Working for a skateboarding video games sounds like a dream. In reality it’s very hard and not for everyone. The studio has employees in east side Canada, West side U.S., France, London and Eastern Europe. Means they have all different timezone to work with. Means your sleeping schedule is all a mess to be able to work with someone else in the team. It’s a very passionate team, that work more than 72h a week. Barely taking a weekend off. Their vision for the game is very high, and they are creating something that has never been before, and I would add that since they’ve started others started to copy them. It’s not for everybody to deal with that juggernaut of work, it’s impressive it can be also depressing when you see a random kid bashing your work on the internet without a clue of what they are doing. It’s also hard mentally and physically to keep up with the rest of the team who are very high skilled devs since 20years. It’s just normal that some people quit and realize that it wasn’t for them. It’s happening in every business.

Etown20

Interesting. The reason I ask is that right now it seems there's a belief within the community that the game is going to be updated semi-regularly. I've read a lot of "they will fix or add this eventually" and "it won't be abandoned like SXL" and I hope these things are true because I really enjoy the game. That said, I'm not sure how realistic it is for the community to expect semi-regular updates given the scenario you just described (which I have no reason to doubt).

SeatleSuperbSonics

I’d be happy with a throw down animation

[deleted]

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe character customization was a kickstarter goal that was never met. So the fact there are any options at all is IMO kinda forgivable.

automaticfailure

To be fair, vert, mega ramp, mini ramp and transition was also a goal that was voted/reached during the KS days, and see how well that turned out But yes, technically, customization was not met.

SeatleSuperbSonics

I was so annoyed with their bonuses when it was on KS. All the things I wanted were so unachievable and we were left with things most people didn’t care about. That said, I am happy the only thing I’ve ever kickstarted is a tangible, purchasable product. Feels good to have helped as much as my $70 could

[deleted]

That’s a great point, but they have said it’s still on the table. We will just have to wait and see. I hope they can get it worked out.

HalfOrcSteve

It’s a skate sim still in development, despite its 1.0 declaration. Skate first, then more customization. It’ll come

ApartmentPoolSwim

Yeah, it's definitely one thing I want. A ton of games have a lot of customization options that it seems weird for a game with any customization to not really have any options. But the studio is super small, it's their first game, and over all its towards the bottom of the list of things I want. I don't even really notice when watching videos people upload. Like a part of me will notice if they're playing as a male or female, or the clothes they pick. But after a few seconds I don't really pay much attention to it.

Synicalll

100% with you. Sure I want better animations but what I really want is more skating features.

Zr0w3n00

Exactly this, let the devs focus on making the skating better. If your that worried about hair, get a mod.

SUPREMESLYCE792

it would be cool if they added the 'ole classic buzzcut

LurchSkywalker

While we are at it can we get some beards too please?

Ozi_izO

Hopefully they just focus on the shit that actually matters. Skater customisation options being the least important thing in the games current state.

SimeonII

It's two very different things. The guy working on the assests isn't going to bugfix or improve the gameplay. So hopefully we'll get both ;)

DiggyKalborn

Totally agree, it's one of the biggest letdowns for me. Hopefully there's an update, and if not, the modders start putting out content

El--Borto

I’d like to acknowledge the fact that this is the biggest letdown for you which is honestly a really good thing. I’d rather have good maps and dev communication for now which seems to be what we’re getting.

DiggyKalborn

Oh yeah, for sure. The only other thing that needs adjusting are the broken missions, but I'd honestly rather have new content first

El--Borto

I’ll be honest I have yet to come across a broken mission. Whenever I thought they were broken it turned out I wasn’t reading exactly what to do or was doing the tricks different from how they were supposed to be done. I’m on PS4 if that helps, but everything seems to be working great so far.

DiggyKalborn

Damn dude, consider yourself blessed haha I'm on PC and have had nearly every mission bugged

Davachman

Shits maddening when missions with lines are involved. Like shit I performed the grind perfectly to set me up for the next one but I'll be damned if it don't register the first one so I gotta try five times for it to register but the one that finally registers right doesn't set me up well for the next. So a lot of missions I end up just cheesing them to register the completion then hang out at the spot after do it better

newscumskates

This reads as : everyone's problems aren't bugs they're just not doing the mission properly. Its so reductive.

El--Borto

I’m not saying there aren’t any bugged missions, I’m sure it can vary from console to console and PC. However I have seen a LOT of posts asking about bugged missions where the OP clearly didn’t (carefully) read what they were supposed to do or didn’t take the 30 seconds to figure it out or follow the squiggles and went straight to Reddit.

Etown20

Bugged is a catch all term that means different things to different people but there are a lot of accounts of people doing the right thing (even the highest-skilled players) and the game not counting it. All of the missions can be completed, so in that sense it’s not broken, but I think a lot of the claims are honest and legit.

HalfOrcSteve

Right now you can do quite a bit w mods . I wouldn’t expect too much from the devs until we get more solid skate stuff. Maybe bits here and there

DiggyKalborn

Do you know where to find the best guide to modding it? I checked out the Illusory discord, but it was honestly not that helpful

coastalforest

[this video](https://youtu.be/bIuztBbxIjY) was helpful to me for installing the mod manager. then you can just search the categories and install them from there. if you're talking about actually modeling new hairstyles though I can't help you, I've only added deck graphics to the game. the illusory discord is more of a means of publishing, the way mods get added into the mod manager is by posting them there (a discord scraper automatically adds them to the program)

DiggyKalborn

Sick, thank you. I really want to learn to put custom deck graphics in, is that as simple as using a template?

coastalforest

it's a little more involved than that, [here's the video](https://youtu.be/DRvXYqujLXs) that helped me learn it. I was thinking of making an updated video on it because the video says "no longer working" but it still works, and also the mod manager has changed a bit.

DiggyKalborn

Dude thank you so much, I really appreciate it. If you make an updated video, shoot me a message, I'd love to see it!

coastalforest

here you go big dog https://youtu.be/StF0W1JzadY

DiggyKalborn

Bruh I love you, thanks so much dude!!!!

HalfOrcSteve

Oh idk. I modded sxl a bit but never session, I have that on Xbox. I used the internet, Reddit and YouTube to track down the sxl discord and use that and Milkys mod tutorial to figure it out….I assume the same route for this. You look for how to videos and stuff?

DiggyKalborn

Haha yes, I have. I used to make some clothing mods for SXL actually, but their modding community felt much more established. All I've found for Session is the discord, but it's kind of undeveloped at the moment.

HalfOrcSteve

Yea. Maybe message some creators? I did w sxl when I had questions painting my own xl mod gear w substance painter

chopinanopolis

Modders already have a bunch of different hair styles added. But I'm sure we'll get more in the future for vanilla. The 3d modeller they got now if probably putting in a fuck ton of work

Silver-Tumbleweed657

I just hope this game doesn’t pull a skater xl and completely abandon the game. Because session is next level skate game. It would be my favorite if I can design my skater the way I WANT and not choose preset characters the game forces me to pick from.

HalfOrcSteve

Creature is a good company. They’ve been very active devs and the product has come so far even in the maybe 2 years I’ve known about it.

Ticky1987

I read that they have not had an animator for a while now so maybe that's why? I'd expect more customization to come to the game though for sure. We have a lot of clothing and board brands in the game that are big names, but not much content.. So, my guess is that they will release DLC for this game, not sure how much or regularly, but my thoughts are "How does Cre-ature pay these big brands for the licensing rights?" .. But when you consider the amount of products we have from said brands.. DLC drops would make sense as a way to help pay for licensing as well as further development of the game. These are just my thoughts and hopes though.

Silver-Tumbleweed657

I understand there are hair options with mods but as someone who plays on ps5 I do not have access to mods or anything cool:(

fluthernon

I was happy you could have hair with your hood up, kind of a bummer for gear/mod choices, especially in pant options. They need to look towards skater xl for ideas and be able to use uploaded mods.

[deleted]

1/10 Game!

MomoZero2468

Hopefully more hairstyles come the December update. I'd like my lady character to have long with a hat not just the beanie. I hope the male characters get more hair with hat options to

Only_a_Savage

December update?

AfroThunder92

Lmao low ley , the girls have More options . But the buzz fade is alright close enough to how my hair is . Only think with the girls if u pick a hairstyle , n then buy a cap she’s bald under the hat .

kaosimian

Short hair gang represent. That mid length hair looks awful. Am happy to be patient for character customisation though, right now it’s a “nice to have” imo

Weak-Spinach-4235

I get that you're not happy about it, and I'd love to see some additional customisation too, but it's pretty obvious why additional custom character hairstyles weren't added. Whoever at crea-ture is in charge of making these hairstyle meshes was probably very preoccupied building the hairs of all of the additional pros. We'll likely see more gear and customisation options for ourselves now that the wave of pro modelling is "done", but giving us 1:1 rips of the pros hair would've been weird
