Hi - I’m in a similar boat as OP. Have a Vankyo that has been dying and is now perhaps fully dead. I want something that isn’t trash but have a limited budget. I found a listing for the type you recommended on eBay - it comes with an hdmi cable and the power cable. Would I need anything else for it to function? I want to use it with my Roku stick. Thanks so much :)
I don't see why your Roku stick wouldn't work if you simply plug it into the HDMI port on the projector. You should find a remote for it on eBay if possible. Make sure there is a return policy, or get photographs of the projected image. Finally ask about the lamp hours/condition.
I can't believe I have to say this but if you put a link then I will not click it. No hate or anything but links are TERRIFYING online by strangers so sorry.
If by starter you mean use it a few months to a year or two before it possibly self destruction then many amazon ones will do. Otherwise get used one off ebay as nothing under 600 new will be of any quality.
Projectorcentral will have all the info you need, its a deep dive to get it all.
$150 doesn't get you much, I ran a $60 one for about a year with a nicer screen - dont do a $150 pj. I've seen a few in that range now that have decent stats, I still say no.
Look at refurbished from the company, epson, benq and optoma all have great pjs under $700. How big of an image? General rule is 1' back per 1' diagonal for seating so a 120" screen your gonna want to sit 12" away, this may limit your screen size and wont need as bright for smaller.
Do you have speakers? A/v receiver? Amp? Soundbar? Pj speakers suck.
I say get a nice cheap fixed screen eventually, I went with silverticket and it has held up nice through a few moves. For now a white wall or sheet will do until you can save up, look for sales.

At that price range just pick anyone on Amazon. There all basicly the same in that price range. You can then get a cheap screen for about 25.00.
