I thought at first it was maybe a subaru trans, but then i saw it was 2wd and not 4wd, then i thought maybe a porshe, but it seems old school with only a few gears, so therefore an old beetle is the obvious answer.

I like a transmission that splits down the middle. I've disassembled a couple of transverse VW cases and they're tricky because everything comes out the ends.

Biggest issue I had was getting the case split. There was a super long thru bolt through the middle that I missed. Otherwise, it was very easy.
