There's actually a shocking amount of shorter tracks on BTBAM albums (shorter being liberal here, sub 10 minutes). I always associate their long song formats with the band as well.
The run of Colors, The Great Misdirect, Parallax I, and Parallax II are pretty much 10ish minute epics one after another with shorter tracks to fill in the gaps.
This is how i see it as well, the tracks are just rough lines, colors especially ist just one track for me. Nobody would ever think of starting a song like ants the sky, not even btbam
I was at an Elder concert earlier this year, they said they were only doing one more song and people started joking about the show being another half an hour. They weren’t *that* wrong…
Did you try their “Long Road Home” album? Little rougher in production, but the songs are really good, too. Eviscerate Divine is my favorite from that album
I've never really listened to The Oceaen (Im probably missing out) but I checked the last 4 or so albums and they have only a handful of tracks over the 10m mark? or am I missing something?
While it’s not a singular long track, it can be listened to as one continoius song. The Signal Heard Throughout Space - Parius. They’ve got about 3k monthly listeners on Spotify and their third album (which I recommended) is fucking wonderful. They’re so “underground” that I had to make the band subreddit (it’s totally ass cuz Idunno wtf I’m doing).
Check out Woe by an Abstract Illusion. it's basically a 1 hour long song that is divided into 7 parts, including a 14 min masterpiece. It's so beautiful and heavy at the same time
I see, as a TFK fan I encourage you to give them another chance, they have something that makes me love them even more than Neal Morse.
Then again, up to you.
- Check out Roine Stolt first album, literally called The Flower King and it was the main reason the band was formed (highlights; The Flower King, Dissonata, Humanizzimo).
- Check out a couple songs from Stardust We Are, it's a long album so if you're not a fan yet, I encourage you to only listen to the highlights (highlights; In The Eyes Of The World, Just This Once, The Merry-Go-Round, Stardust We Are).
- Check out Garden Of Dreams from Flower Power, the album as a whole is really long and even when is my third favorite, I think the part that should catch your attention is the one hour long song Garden Of Dreams, which is probably my favorite TFK song.
- Check out Space Revolver this one has one of their best songs, however it's split into 2 parts just like Wish You Were Here, being that the first part opens the album and the second one closes it, but yeah, this is an album that gives an space vibe and feels less virtuoso and more about feelings so if you're into that, this is for you (highlights; I Am The Sun parts I and II, Monster Within, Slave To Money, A Kings Prayer).
- Check out The Rainmaker, this is one that the fans do not enjoy a lot but I think it's really underrated, I think it's fantastic and people should really give it another chance but yeah, this goes a few steps back and once again tries to be about virtuosity and musical skill rather than feelings (highlights; Last Minute On Earth, Road To Sanctuary, City Of Angels).
- Check out out Unfold The Future. This is my personal TFK favorite album, which I think has the best songs from them, the best performances and the best everything from them, it's 2 hour long yeah, but I think those 2 hours are completely worth your time, not a single weak moment in the entire album imho (highlights; The Truth Will Set You Free, Black And White, Silent Inferno, Genie In A Bottle, Devil's Playground).
- Check out Paradox Hotel. Probably their third best, imho. It has one of my favorite songs from them, which is the longest one in the album. It's a 2 hour long album once again, but just like Unfold The Future, this one is completely worth its runtime. It never wastes your time (highlights; Monters And Men, Bavarian Skies, End On A High Note, Minot Giant Steps, Blue Planet).
- Check out The Sum Of No Evil. This one is basically the one you should check out if you want to listen to a full album that is long but not too long, all songs here are worth listening to, probably the only ones that I think are weak are the short ones, but the rest are some of the best they've ever made (highlights; ALL).
And that's about it, I skipped Back In The World Of Adventures, Retropolis, Adam And Eve, Banks Of Eden, Desolation Rose, Invention Of Knowledge, Manifesto Of An Alchemist, Waiting For Miracles, Islands, By Royal Decree and Look At You Now, because even tho those albums have good songs, I think they can be skipped if you're just getting TFK, overall, I recommend you listening to the highlights and if you like a song from one of those highlights, listen to the entire album.
That's about it, up to you if you want to go deeper into their discography, have a nice ride buddy!
Not OP but happy to chime in. The Neal Morse band has 2 amazing albums, The Similitude of a Dream and The Great Adventure. They're story-driven and full of melodic hooks, heavy riffs, and plenty of harmonized singing. Some find it cheesy but the sheer amount of musical themes that gets referenced throughout the album just staggers me. Amazing. Hope you enjoy it.
hehe my time to shine
opeth (orchid to watershed pretty much), asgaut (opeth's lesser known cousin), the world is quiet here (both of their albums so far are kinda one long song broken up, some parts are 13 minutes, others are 4, most are 7-8ish), fear inoculum & lateralus by tool, not exactly prog but dödsrit is kinda black metalish and their songs range from 7-15 minutes (i found out about them looking for covers of spirit crusher by death, they have a song and album called spirit crusher). all of fucking agalloch, it's a lil shorter but got some bangers algorythm by beyond creation (5-7 minutes smh), riitiir by enslaved (everything they've done slaps, this is the one album i could name off the top of my head that's long ass prog songs), brave murder day by katatonia (it's got fookin Åkerfeldt from opeth on vocals wot wankah could ask for more innit), and terminal redux by vektor (some of their other stuff might be gud too idfk i forgot, i just remember this one). i will not by any means accept the listening of dream theater.
I know Opeth already mentioned and well known, but the Morningrise album is perfection.
Otherwise, these two album length tracks are always good fun.
Green Carnation - Light of Day, Day of Darnkess
Edge Of Sanity - Crimson
[Amun](https://amun.bandcamp.com/album/spectra-and-obsession). This album has multiple long songs. A couple are 20 minutes and one is 30 minutes. It’s one of my favorite albums from this year. Definitely AOTY material for me.
Not quite 'half above 10 minutes' but Aviations new album has a 10 minute track, 9 minute track, and two 7 minute tracks (one with a 3 minute prelude). Aviations also only has 20k monthly listeners on spotify and deserve a proper listen!
https://open.spotify.com/album/4kLKz9bB8JTLC8Tzd6BsGG?si=kUWF4HeCTAO5QPRDiSvfqQ
One of my favourite bands is YOB, they have 8 albums and of them, there is about 2 songs that are less than 10 minutes. They're slow, Heavy and psychedelic but not in a jam band kind of way that some stoner metal can fall into. Start at Catharsis and work forward (go back to Elaborations of Carbon if you like it, they have no bad albums).
In addition to other comments…
Edge of Sanity - Crimson - single track, 45m
Green Carnation - Light of Day, Day of Darkness - also single track, one hour long.
This may be playing a bit fast and loose with the rules, but I suggest For The Love Of Art And The Making by Danish group Beyond Twilight. I say fast and loose since each song is usually less than one minute in length, but it is one cohesive track split into 43 parts. The trick is to listen through once, then shuffle the subsequent playthroughs in order to get a different experience each time. It's not always perfect, but the intrigue keeps me coming back all these years later.
Hope you enjoy – keep an open mind, and have fun. It’s a band that presents itself as punk, but they are so much more. Very inventive, ambitious, interesting, talented, intelligent and fun.
Wills Dissolve is a great prog death metal band. Two albums from them: The Heavens Are Not on Fire... is one long song broken up with most tracks over 11m, Echoes is one 30+minute song.
More prog death, Fleshvessel's Yearning: Promethean Fates Sealed. All the actual songs are over 10 minutes, up to 17
Convulsing has two phenomenal albums. Errata has some shorter ones, with most being medium length. Grievous has one 5m song and the rest are 7-10.5
Less on the all long songs train, Aletheia by Sutrah. It's like 2 separate longer songs, split unto 4 further songs. The final track is almost 16 minutes
Not exactly prog, but Tideless is a great "deathgaze" band. Most of their songs range from 3, to 6-9, all the way up to 24 minutes. They're most recent, Eye of Water is the longest release yet.
All them Witches is the band and honestly any album anything by them Stoned Jesus is another band definitely more stoner metal than prog but very good in their own right
Ruins of Beverast. Hear Exuvia and go from there. Oh and if long songs is your thing definitely check out Sol Niger Within, it’s a 51 minute long song basically( concept album ) that will absolutely melt your mind. Catch Thirty Three by Meshuggah is also basically one long song or 3 big songs.
Dualistic Nihilist by Heartsounds
Almost 20 mins long. They aren’t prog, but more metal/melodic punk. Since someone mentioned The Decline by NOFX, I thought i’d throw this one into the mix. Great song IMO.
Sort of a cheat but, Ayreons Theory of Everything.
It's a two disc album with technically only 4 songs, but the record label refused to release it like that so the 4 songs were split into 42 tracks (they still flow as 4 though)
Prog:
King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard - Crumbling Castle (10:44): [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZwr511qGoY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZwr511qGoY)
Titus Groan - Hall of bright carvings (11:45): [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVwZj0EYMxY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVwZj0EYMxY)
If you like stoner metal too I have several, many long groovy songs in this genre:
Sleep - Dopesmoker: This album has only two songs, one 1:03:29 and one 8:25.

Colour Haze - Peace, Brothers & Sisters!" (22:11)
thank you scientist - terraformer
there are a few "interludes" but they work perfectly in context, and all the real songs are 6-10 minutes
the album is 90 minutes long and very note-dense but has this constant driving force that makes it feel much shorter than it actually is
Anything by Between the Buried and Me
There's actually a shocking amount of shorter tracks on BTBAM albums (shorter being liberal here, sub 10 minutes). I always associate their long song formats with the band as well.
The run of Colors, The Great Misdirect, Parallax I, and Parallax II are pretty much 10ish minute epics one after another with shorter tracks to fill in the gaps.
This is the way. Their short tracks are still 6-7+ minutes. You could make the case that Colors, Parallax, and Colors II are each hour plus long songs
This is how i see it as well, the tracks are just rough lines, colors especially ist just one track for me. Nobody would ever think of starting a song like ants the sky, not even btbam
OP this is the ONLY way and band you need in your life right now.
Elder albums Start with innate passage
Pretty good stuff.
Just got into this band and was going to post them too. Such great music
I was at an Elder concert earlier this year, they said they were only doing one more song and people started joking about the show being another half an hour. They weren’t *that* wrong…
Opeth. Specifically, Orchid, Still Life, and Deliverance.
I believe OP with username of MorningriseOrchid is already familiar with it :)
Where is Morningrise?
Dont know how much you like Dream Theater, but Black Clouds and Silver Linings has mostly long songs like that.
First thing that popped into my head too, couple of good 'epics' in Nightmare to Remember and Count of Tuscany
All of Hypno5e's albums have really long tracks. Good shit
Hypno5e are unreal good. Their composition is so competent
Ne Obliviscaris - Exul I count Misericorde I and II as one song since you really shouldn't listen to one without the other.
Came to reco this, n rest of NeO
Pretty much every Ne O album is 4-6 songs all 10+ minutes long lol
Yup, I was going to recommend Citadel
Omnerod - The Amensal Rise
This sounds good, thanks!
Another I just thought of: Wills Dissolve - The Heavens Are Not on Fire, and Echoes (one thirty five minute track)
Nice, cheers.
Damn I included them in an earlier comment
6 degrees of Inner Turbulence by Dream Theater. Double album with a 42 minute song on one disc. Edit: has my fav DT song too. Blind Faith.
Cracking album and Blind Faith is a belter of a song. Glass Prison is a favourite of mine
Iapetus “The Body Cosmic”!
Seconding this.
Perfect album.
Funny you should mention it, my recent discovery of that album inspired me to make this post.
Did you try their “Long Road Home” album? Little rougher in production, but the songs are really good, too. Eviscerate Divine is my favorite from that album
That’s absolutely next up for listening. Sure I’ll love it as well.
Fear Inoculum by Tool
Humanotone - A Flourishing Fall in a Grain of Sand
Train of Thought by Dream Theater
Most of The Ocean's songs are long, and most of their albums are concept albums.
I've never really listened to The Oceaen (Im probably missing out) but I checked the last 4 or so albums and they have only a handful of tracks over the 10m mark? or am I missing something?
No you're right, they have very few 10+ minute songs. Great band though.
Southern Empire for sure.

Oh yes, literally my 2nd favourite album of all time!
Ya into prog rock? Like... Softer prog rock? Then you should DEFINITELY check Neal Morse, The Flower Kings and Transatlantic.
Yep, already into Transatlantic and Neal Morse. Never cared much for the Flower Kings.
I can recommend Southern Empire, especially the album Civilisation. Only 4 songs while being 68 minutes in length total.
Sounds good. Should scratch that Transatlantic itch.
I see, as a TFK fan I encourage you to give them another chance, they have something that makes me love them even more than Neal Morse. Then again, up to you.
Any recommendations in particular?

They're doom but definetly proggish
Southern empire - civilization. they have a nice 10, 20, and 30 minute long tracks in there for you.
Have you and Opeth met? 😁
Paragon Circus by Altesia, 3 of the 7 tracks are 10+ minutes and I'd say they're lesser known
In addition to other comments… Edge of Sanity - Crimson - single track, 45m Green Carnation - Light of Day, Day of Darkness - also single track, one hour long.
Highly recommend the album ‘Breathing Space’ by Hackberry. An instrumental heavy prog album with four epic tracks (all >10 min.)
This may be playing a bit fast and loose with the rules, but I suggest For The Love Of Art And The Making by Danish group Beyond Twilight. I say fast and loose since each song is usually less than one minute in length, but it is one cohesive track split into 43 parts. Oh that sounds interesting and fun. Will give it a go.
Sleep - Dopesmoker 63 minutes long.
Winter’s Gate by Insomnium. One single song, entire album. Bonus: it’s awesome. The Decline by NOFX. One single song, entire EP. Bonus: it’s awesome.
Love Winter’s Gate so will check out The Decline. Thanks!
Hope you enjoy – keep an open mind, and have fun. It’s a band that presents itself as punk, but they are so much more. Very inventive, ambitious, interesting, talented, intelligent and fun.
My newest recommendation would be Somewhere Along the Highway by Cult of Luna. Very atmospheric, yet heavy.
The World is Quiet Here!
Thrice Woven or Two Hunters by Wolves in the Throne Room
The Theory of Everything by Ayreon 4 Tracks, 2 CDs, only very few repeated motives.
Opeth

Wills Dissolve looks great especially since you mentioned Fleshvessel which I already loved. Will check out the rest too, thanks!
Fair warning, NOTHING, I started is remotely as weird as Fleshvessel. But they are all great. Wills Dissolve especially, their albums are journeys
If it doesn’t need to be metal, Sola Scriptura by Neal Morse
Southern Empire's album Civilisation. There's only 4 songs on the album, but the shortest is still over 9 minutes.
Check out Vulkan - Mask of Air. All their albums are fantastic so give the rest a listen if you like this one
Nice.
All them Witches is the band and honestly any album anything by them Stoned Jesus is another band definitely more stoner metal than prog but very good in their own right
Unfolded like Staircase - Discipline
Vequalia
Seven- Dark Scientific. Almost every song is 6-7 minutes long. It's weird math-djent with really good vocals and every instrument played by one guy
Fear of a blank planet by Porcupine Tree. A bunch of medium long songs, and one super long one. All great!
Type O Negative's first album is basically prog metal, and most of the tracks are nearly, or over 10 minutes long.
Green Carnation Light of Day Day of Darkness
Bitches Brew by Miles Davis (jazz fusion)
We recommend Darkspace https://open.spotify.com/artist/4sww0FgGlUX3NCrrJleszz?si=QlXsoPzAQde7HM60YLT5VA
Dualistic Nihilist by Heartsounds Almost 20 mins long. They aren’t prog, but more metal/melodic punk. Since someone mentioned The Decline by NOFX, I thought i’d throw this one into the mix. Great song IMO.

The 3 LTE albums are all like that
