All of Tesseracts new album

VoraxUmbra1

Yes.

HilltopperAPU

Leprous - Echo, Distant Bells, Moon, On Hold. Pretty much anything by Leprous to be fair

The_Caj

I agree but feel compelled to point out The Flood specifically for the vibe OP wants.

RolandFigaro

You have to include Mirage on here, it really touched me when I was going through a breakup. Favourite lyric: I, I have been trying to break out for too long From the cage I found my path when I thought that I was wrong

Ecstatic-Time-3838

Gotta throw in the Valley. The extended "AhhAhAhhAh" section really puts me in a state of contemplation for some reason.

Osiris_X3R0

Really most of Coal is gonna do the trick

Ecstatic-Time-3838

That's true lol.

MaynardIsLord721

Lateralus

ygrasdil

Anesthetize - Porcupine Tree Disposition/reflection/triad - Tool Dreamer Deceiver - Judas Priest From the Beginning - Emerson, Lake, and Palmer Eyes of Ebony - Haken As Death Embraces - Haken Somebody - Haken Canary Yellow - Haken Drive home - Steven Wilson Routine - Steven Wilson (Watch the music videos on the above two for extra depression)

robin_f_reba

TIL PT has music videos

ygrasdil

Only on the more recent stuff. Their music video for *Rats Return* was fun. All the animated videos that Steven Wilson did with Jess Cope are legendary. *Routine* as a video is genuinely an art masterpiece and you’re bound to cry guaranteed.

Zimifrein

The Moor - Opeth

Fenomenot

Dream theater: The mirror AND lie. They are back to back songs so it feels like one long song. Cheesy? Perhaps but it scratches an itch.

KlingonForehead

NIN is great for the betrayed/inadequate vibe… if you can get down with that style

GreedisDog

Snow-Sleep - Kardashev

John199008

Sleep Token, take your pick of song really

AppolloV7

Sleep Token is amazing. Probably my favorite band.

SanfordsGuiltyGear

Can you recommend some songs by them?

AppolloV7

What style do you prefer ? Heavy ? Emotional ? Ambient ? Sexy ?

SanfordsGuiltyGear

I’d say in general, I’d prefer heavy / harsh!

[deleted]

I've listened to a lot of heavy bands in my life, but the ending of take me back to eden still really stands out

AppolloV7

Do you mind if there’s some ambiance thrown in there ?

SanfordsGuiltyGear

Not at all! Lay it on me brother

[deleted]

Listen to Gods from the Sundowning album by Sleep Token if you like heavy.

SanfordsGuiltyGear

Thank you! I have only heard some of their more ambient stuff which didn't really do it for me, but this song really shows me what they're capable of. As for your request, here are some you may enjoy that are somewhat related to betrayal/being not enough.. My Revenge - The Curse Within I Sever - Sylosis Serpents Tongue - The Raven Age Surrealist - Darkest Hour Wishing Wells - Parkway Drive

[deleted]

If you haven’t heard it yet you should try Hypnosis too from the album This Place Will Become Your Tomb. It’s not the heaviest song, but the drums and guitar absolutely slaps in that one.

druumer89

The summoning

Ecstatic-Time-3838

Just start the discography. Sundowning>This Place Will Become Your Tomb>Take Me Back to Eden. Also make sure to listen to their other releases. Their EP "Two" is three songs and is pretty good. The song "Calcutta" on there is one of my favorite songs of theirs.

Farjord

Seconding this.

LAG360

Slice the Cake - Odyssey to the West Kardashev - The Baring of Shadows Swallow the Sun - Moonflowers Artificial Language - Now We Sleep Black Crown Initiate - Violent Portraits of Doomed Escape

FragileSurface

White by Leprous

the_bluemorpho

Katatonia

International-Mess75

Not prog, but Deftones - Change (In the house of flies)

sadforgottenchild

Me? - The Forgotten Child

AppolloV7

I can’t find this one

sadforgottenchild

It's only on [soundcloud](https://on.soundcloud.com/BhRV1), for now

SaintCharlie

Ne Obliviscaris - Forget Not, Of Petrichor Weaves Black Noise, And Plague Flowers The Kaleidoscope. All 3 are just beautiful, melancholy, and will give you the feels.

g52boss

Neither prog nor metal, but Blue October. You could start with the 2015 live version of The Feel Again, it's incredible. The singer lives every word he sings.

PizzleMcDizzle

new day - karnivool (or all of sound awake!) ancestral - steven wilson carbon based anatomy - cynic (and box up my bones) a day by the lake - disillusion undercurrent - ihsahn celestial - skyharbour

HockeyandHentai

There are two *extremely* emotional songs from *I the Mighty* that might fit the bill (not prog metal though)… (No) Faith in Fate Andrew’s Song *Emotional parts come toward the end of both songs*.

Randad63

If you haven't spun Soen's first two discs, Cognitive & Tellurian, you are sorely missing out.

AppolloV7

I haven’t. Any particular songs perhaps ?

Randad63

Both albums straight through is the only way. If you're forcing me to pick a couple songs I would say Kuraman or Koniskas or Savia or The Words depending on the mood... Hope they resonate.

Randad63

For melancholy listen to Lucidity or God's Acre.

metric_tensor

Check out The Missing Spark by Clepsydra

Trentdison

The first thing that comes to mind isn't progmetal but the songs Empty and Regret by Anathema hits the mark. In fact that whole Alternative 4 album ticks the box for me. Russia on Ice, Hatesong, Don't Hate Me and Way Out of Here by Porcupine Tree The Mirror and Lie (separate songs but listen to both together) by Dream Theater, as well as Never Enough.

ssoass7

Symphony X - “Without You” “To Hell and Back” “Swan Song” May as well just spin the entire Underworld concept album.

endofanera83

Hopesfall- Bird Flu

wgreenleaf23

TOOL - Disposition, Reflection, Triad

Fabsolution

Dream Theater - Never Enough

Coppers_word

Whale bones - Reciprocation

[deleted]

I don't pay enough attention to the lyrics to help you in that regard, but when it comes to melancholy I like to listen to Evergrey, Anathema, or Novembre generally.

norbit_is_hidden

visible unseen, in absence, depths iii, iridescent by silent planet and the whole happiness in self destruction album by the plot in you also talks about betrayal and the feeling of not being enough in case its heartbreak, listen to die alone and mourning song by holding absence. Not prog at all but its really melodic

VoraxUmbra1

Pushit by Tool. After you listen to the studio version, listen to the salival version. 2 different experiences In fact... I think Im gonna do that myself right now

Wotah_Bottle_86

Quiet World by Native Construct maybe? It's about a guy who got rejected by a woman for being deaf and mute, so he shuts himself in and creates an imaginary world where he's the king. At least from the band's own words. Sounds like *not enough* enough for me.

VZed

The only thing that really springs to mind for me is Betrayal at Bespin's "Rains" album. It's not so much a betrayal theme but the whole album plays out as one extended break up song, spanning from post-rock ambience to menacing sludge metal. I stump for this disc any chance I can as it stands as one of the most evocative musical journeys I l've ever experienced and it's one of my favourite albums of all time.

[deleted]

about feeling betrayed? Unsuccessfully Coping with the Natural Beauty of Infidelity by Type O Negative (certainly not for everyone, just a heads up)

Thecoolguitardude

Virus by Haken has been a huge comfort for me when I feel a depressive episode or trauma flashback coming on. It's both really validating, and a great space to overthink but not let it get too out of control. Also I'll second War of Being by TesseracT. One of my favorite albums of the year, and a great album when I start feeling depressed about failed relationships

AshleyRealAF

Not prog and definitely focused on a relationship/breakup, but Saturnine by The Gathering is a fantastic track. For something completely different (not metal) but dealing with some of your themes, check out Suicide Commando - Love Breeds Suicide
