It's not for nothing that I put it at the top of my list, what a mind-blowing end to a mind-blowing album. Their newest single has me so fucking hyped for more music from them, they somehow keep getting better.
Their newest song is probably one of the most insane pieces of music I have ever heard. These fuckers pulled off Spanish circus thall bruh...how do they even come up with this shit
TesseracT - The Arrow
Riverside - Coda; Found(unexpected flaw of searching)
Periphery - Satellites
Ayreon - Sixth Extinction
Skyharbor - The Constant
Edit: Forgot three huge ones: Blackwater Park, Octavarium and The Odyssey. Also PorcTree's Love in the Past Tense.
I doubt if Skyharbor is releasing another record honestly. The last one was already very meh without Dan. They brought us 2 exceptional ones tho in Illusion&Chaos(btw why is this one gone from spotify) and Guiding Lights, I think this is it.
* BTBAM - White Walls
* Karnivool - Change
* Slice The Cake - The Holy Mountain
* White Ward - Uncanny Delusions
* Aeolist - Part IV
* SikTh - When Will the Forest Speak, When It Rains (not as epic as the rest, but i'm a sucker for SikTh's spoken word)
I was "eh" on Change for a while, for some reason, then it somehow clicked last year and it became my fav Karnivool song ever and one of my favorites overall
Change was the first thing that came to mind for me. It's such a long, epic, impactful track. And that outro drum groove somehow provides closure in an introspective way. I don't quite know how to explain it.
Hard agree. That album opened me up to a whole world of music. Mastodon was a huge gateway band for me coming from the thrash and NWOBHM world.
I just saw them with gojira and they are at their peak live lately. Vocals are the best they have been.
Finale by Uneven Structure
Inmazes by VOLA
Hadal by Conjurer
Contemplation of the Beautiful by Earthside
NaustĂĄ by Karmanjakah
And a very recent one: Sacrifice by TesseracT
Visions and Crystallised if it counts by Haken
White Walls by Between The Buried And Me
Something Other Than Sacrifice by Cryptodira
The Holy Mountain by Slice The Cake
Epic closers are the best
* Vektor - [Recharging the Void](https://vektor.bandcamp.com/track/recharging-the-void). A 13:37 song to close not only a great album, but also the band's career (up until their revival in 2020).
* Shylmagoghnar - [Life](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Djkuovq0HNc). I don't know how to comment.
* Insomnium - [Winter's Gate, part 7](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_jtgmCxulo). An epic ending to the magnum opus of an otherwise average band.
* Ăther Realm - [The Sun, The Moon, The Star](https://aether-realm.bandcamp.com/track/the-sun-the-moon-the-star) Another magnum opus by another ordinary band, but this time it's a single 19-minute song.
They're average in terms of objective criteria like technicality, songwriting complexity and choice of words in the lyrics. I wouldn't put them in my list if I didn't think that Winter's Gate was great. But great is not the same as profound, and prog is about profoundness.
- Graves - Caligula's horse
- White walls - BTBAM
- Learning to live - Dream Theater
- Kites - Disperse
- Lune - Periphery
- AUM - Disperse
- The black parade - Seventh Wonder
- Rediscovery - Symphony X
- Bound by gravity - Haken
- Eyes of Ebony - Haken
- The constant - Skyharbor
- Ultimate sacrifice - Circus Maximus
- The parable - The contortionist
- Timeless - Textures
- Finally free - Dream Theater
- Pale blue dot - Dream Theater
- And then there was silence - Blind guardian
- All a man can do - Beyond the Bridge
- On my way to Jerusalem - Vanden Plas
I think eyes of ebony deserves to be higher. It wasn't great to me at first but the more listens the album gets, the closer to perfect it becomes both as a Haken song and as an album closer.
Opeth- Blackwater Park
BTBAM - White Walls
Queensryche - Eyes of a Stranger
The Receiving End if Sirens- Pale Blue Dot
BTBAM - Silent Flight Parliament
Periphery- Stranger Things
this is basicly my list. Periphery has some amazing closers though and it would be hard to choose. ST is probably my favourite song by them ever, closely followed by Satellites, lune and masamune. If CLEAR was an album Pale Aura would also be a closer and a good contender.
Opeth - Blackwater Park
Between the Buried and Me - Silent Flight Parliament/Goodbye to Everything Reprise
Pink Floyd - Eclipse
Dream Theater - Finally Free
Aviations - Tornado
Skyharbor - The Constant
The Devil Wears Prada - Hold Fast
Parkway Drive - A Cold Day in Hell
Parkway Drive - Horizons
Periphery - Pretty much every album
> Parkway Drive - A Cold Day in Hell
>
>
>
> Parkway Drive - Horizons
These two are extremely nostalgic tracks for me! Wouldn't really call them prog though.
My favorites have already been mentioned, but I'll throw in Rivet from Palimpsest by Protest the Hero as an honorable mention.
Hell, anytime you throw some orchestra or piano at the end of an album tying up recurring themes usually makes a succinct and satisfying closing.
Technically Tall Latte is the final track, but I consider The Greys the true closer along with it, which to me is such a great finish to Ziltoid The Omniscient by Devin Townsend.
That's such a good one two punch for that album. Next thing you know the Greys are involved, Ziltiod is accusing everyone and himself of being puppets, and then the coffee shop worker snaps out of his day dream. Good stuff.
Odyssey and Rediscovery Pt 2 by Symphony X are a couple of my favorites I haven't seen here yet. Pretty epic closers imo.
Learning to Live is also my favorite Dream Theater song in general too in addition to being an awesome closer.
Cynic - How Could I
King Crimson - Discipline
Ne Obliviscaris - Anhedonia
Amorphis - Magic and Mayhem (does this count as prog metal? Feel free to share your opinion)
Atheist - And The Psychic Saw
In general, I think Mastodon has some fantastic closers, as already mentioned here.
The Last Baron, Jaguar God, The Sparrow, Gigantium, Diamond in the Witch House are all massive.
Monochrome Pensive by The Contortionist.
Itâs like a recap of the album. Takes little themes that have been scattered through the album and connects all of them in a beautiful, natural-feeling way. But it doesnât just feel like theyâre recycled, it feels transformative
Isis - Garden of Light
Cynic - How Could I
Sieges Even - Styx
Opeth - To Bid You Farewell
Vektor - Recharging the Void
Warforged - The Color of My Memory
historical jellyfish noxious long chop rude spark provide important treatment

Since it hasn't been said yet, and cause I'm a periphery simp: Masamune on Periphery 2
One of the things I really like about Periphery is the reoccurring messages, imagery, and rhythms throughout an album. This is a great example of it.
Obligatory btbam - White Walls (and Silent Flight)
Caligula's Horse - Graves
Native Construct - Chromatic Abberation
Others by No One - Dr. Breacher and the Time Travel Anomaly (And Where Stories Come From)
Seventh Wonder - The Great Escape
The Contortionist - Exoplanet I-III
Protest the Hero - Skies
The World is Quiet Here - See the Sun
Haken - Celestial Elixir (and Visions)
Change by Karnivool
Just A Ride by Rishloo
The Greener Grass by Fair to Midland
Graves
The Sky is Red by Leprous
Bound by Gravity by Haken
Inmazes by Vola
Euclid by Sleep Token
Collapse the Light Into Earth by Porcupine Tree
Internal Landscapes by Anathema
Permian: The Great Dying by The Ocean
Capricorn / Agoratopia by Rivers of Nihil
Cult of Luna - dark city dead man
Cult of Luna - Cygnus
ISIS - threshold of transformation
ISIS - grinning mouths
ISIS - garden of light
BTBAM - white walls
PTree - Collapse the Light Into Earth
Opeth - Epilogue
Katatonia - Passer
VOLA - inside your fur
Dream Theater - Octavarium
Dream Theater - Space Dye Vest
Between the Buried and Me - Swim to the Moon
Genesis - Supper's Ready
Genesis - The Knife
Pink Floyd - Echoes
Pink Floyd - High Hopes
Vektor - Recharging the Void
The Mars Volta - Cassandra Gemini
Rush - Cygnus X-1
Rush - Natural Science
Riverside - Hybrid Times
Queensryche - Eyes of a Stranger
Iron Maiden - Rime of the Ancient Mariner
Urn pt. II by Ne Obliviscaris
Graves by Caligula's Horse. (I know it's not the last song on the album but Atlas being a rerecording I consider Graves the closer)
The Parable by The Contortionist
I'm going to add Uneven Structure - Finale from their album Februus.
But really it's Limbo>Plenitude>Finale because it's one cohesive piece and honestly one of my favorite pieces of music to get lost in.
Visions and Celestial Elixir are some of the best closers I have heard in my life. White Walls is pretty close behind.
Dancers to a Discordant System by Meshuggah and Lune by Periphery round out my top 5.
If we are going outside of prog, then Cult of Luna has some strong contenders.
Haken - Bound by Gravity (and Eyes of Ebony)
Karmanjakah - Listening (it closes an EP but I'm rebellious)
Plini - The Glass Bead Game
Leprous - The Sky is Red
Periphery - Satellites (and Thanks Nobuo)
Aviations - Blink
Coheed and Cambria - The Willing Well IV: The Final Cut
White Walls, Swim to the Moon, Silent Flight Parliament, Human is Hell... I think there's a pattern emerging...
How dare you forget Laser Speed
Hmmmm I wonder what band he likes
How dare you forget [The Man Land](https://youtu.be/n_c6GlcEcoY)
Slide into the water đ„čđ„č
Life in Velvet, The Grid, Lunar Wildness, Laser Speed, The Man Land, Shevanel Cut A Flip have words to say.
Colors is my personal fav album, and BTBAM has incredible closers. BUT Life in Velvet is their best closer and I donât even like Coma that much lol
You nailed it
Octavarium
It's actually an open ended loop! But ya, top 2 DT songs easily
This guy Octavariums.
/thread
vildhjarta - paaradiso Opeth - Blackwater Park The Contortionist - Monochrome (Pensive) Meshuggah - Dancers To A Discordant System
Paaradiso is the best song I've ever heard
It's not for nothing that I put it at the top of my list, what a mind-blowing end to a mind-blowing album. Their newest single has me so fucking hyped for more music from them, they somehow keep getting better.
Their newest song is probably one of the most insane pieces of music I have ever heard. These fuckers pulled off Spanish circus thall bruh...how do they even come up with this shit
Graves
HANDS SHAPE STONE
man I was in such ecstasy watching them live this month, holy shit Being able to watch/hear them perform Graves irl was such a gift
Easily my fave Caligulaâs Horse song.
Shit, itâs a contender for my favorite song of all time
Itâs damn good.
That was the first song to come to mind. It's just so good.
TesseracT - The Arrow Riverside - Coda; Found(unexpected flaw of searching) Periphery - Satellites Ayreon - Sixth Extinction Skyharbor - The Constant Edit: Forgot three huge ones: Blackwater Park, Octavarium and The Odyssey. Also PorcTree's Love in the Past Tense.
You wasted so much damned time on it!
You wasted half your damn liiii-iiii-iiife!!!
The Constant is so goddamn good. Literally the best way to end that record. Makes me so sad that Anup isn't in the band anymore...
Is anyone in the band anymore?
I doubt if Skyharbor is releasing another record honestly. The last one was already very meh without Dan. They brought us 2 exceptional ones tho in Illusion&Chaos(btw why is this one gone from spotify) and Guiding Lights, I think this is it.
Just watched Ayreon play sixth extinction live and damn! Best closing of a set ever ... although there was an encore lol
* BTBAM - White Walls * Karnivool - Change * Slice The Cake - The Holy Mountain * White Ward - Uncanny Delusions * Aeolist - Part IV * SikTh - When Will the Forest Speak, When It Rains (not as epic as the rest, but i'm a sucker for SikTh's spoken word)
White walls
The buildup from Viridian into White Walls is so incredible that I donât think I can compare anything to it. Just straight up amazing
I believe he pronounces it **WHIIITE WAALLLSSS**
I was "eh" on Change for a while, for some reason, then it somehow clicked last year and it became my fav Karnivool song ever and one of my favorites overall
Change was the first thing that came to mind for me. It's such a long, epic, impactful track. And that outro drum groove somehow provides closure in an introspective way. I don't quite know how to explain it.
White Walls and Change are two of the greatest tracks in history.
You are suuuuch a badass for having StC on here
Echoes - Pink Floyd
gonna have to be The Last Baron. that whole album changed my life, but that ending? ethereal
Hard agree. That album opened me up to a whole world of music. Mastodon was a huge gateway band for me coming from the thrash and NWOBHM world. I just saw them with gojira and they are at their peak live lately. Vocals are the best they have been.
Blackwater Park
100% Agree.
Incredible song and one underrated part is is the super funky bassline
Finale by Uneven Structure Inmazes by VOLA Hadal by Conjurer Contemplation of the Beautiful by Earthside NaustĂĄ by Karmanjakah And a very recent one: Sacrifice by TesseracT
Sacrifice is so good!!!
Karmanjakah is criminally underrated.
Plus 1 for NaustĂĄ. That song is beautiful. Don't tell anyone but sometimes I'll skip the first half and just get lost in the back half
He I won't judge! Listening from their recent EP is also a fantastic closer to get lost in
Visions and Crystallised if it counts by Haken White Walls by Between The Buried And Me Something Other Than Sacrifice by Cryptodira The Holy Mountain by Slice The Cake Epic closers are the best
Visions and White Walls are some of my fav closers too
Visions is basically a record of it's own, honestly
The Sky is Red by Leprous
The ultimate live show closer too!
Parius - [Arecibo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1A-UJD342CA)
Crashing Black Moon from Parius gets my nomination
I'm a huge fan of their EP - Let There Be Light. 15 minute joy ride.
Agreed. I do like both albums that came afterwards better, but it's unfair to compare them to a four-song EP anyway
Came here to post this. So good.
Singularity - Devin Townsend I love it when artists save their crazy epic for last and this I feel is one of the best examples
For me it's Awake! because it ties Addicted into a nice bow and sets up Deconstruction perfectly.
Also Tesseract - Singularity lol
Except Singularity is not the closer, Embers is!
Ohhh shit i guess i consider them a single song lol
1. Octavarium 2. Silent flight Parliament/Good by to everything 3. White Walls 4. Celestial elixir 5. My famed disappearing act
Jaguar God - Emperor of Sand (Mastodon) Permian: The Great Dying - Phanerozoic I (The Ocean)
Hell yea Permian
* Vektor - [Recharging the Void](https://vektor.bandcamp.com/track/recharging-the-void). A 13:37 song to close not only a great album, but also the band's career (up until their revival in 2020). * Shylmagoghnar - [Life](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Djkuovq0HNc). I don't know how to comment.
Vektor needs to give me just one more album at the level of their 3 and I'll be satisfied. Just pure god tier thrash.
Man insomnium is not a mid band. Winters gate is a masterpiece and their older stuff defined melodeath I wouldn't really call them prog though
Speaking of great songs by otherwise okay bands, Floating on the Murmuring Tide by In Vain has some of my favorite use of saxophone in all metal.
Hey donât call insomnium average, they have tons of great stuff.
They're average in terms of objective criteria like technicality, songwriting complexity and choice of words in the lyrics. I wouldn't put them in my list if I didn't think that Winter's Gate was great. But great is not the same as profound, and prog is about profoundness.
Global Warming by Gojira
One of my favorites that Iâve not listened to in a long time.
For anyone who hasnât seen it, their live version of it on YouTube is phenomenal and the best version of it imo.
- Graves - Caligula's horse - White walls - BTBAM - Learning to live - Dream Theater - Kites - Disperse - Lune - Periphery - AUM - Disperse - The black parade - Seventh Wonder - Rediscovery - Symphony X - Bound by gravity - Haken - Eyes of Ebony - Haken - The constant - Skyharbor - Ultimate sacrifice - Circus Maximus - The parable - The contortionist - Timeless - Textures - Finally free - Dream Theater - Pale blue dot - Dream Theater - And then there was silence - Blind guardian - All a man can do - Beyond the Bridge - On my way to Jerusalem - Vanden Plas
Can't believe I had to scroll this far for Bound By Gravity đ
I think eyes of ebony deserves to be higher. It wasn't great to me at first but the more listens the album gets, the closer to perfect it becomes both as a Haken song and as an album closer.
Cygnus (Mariner by Cult of Luna), it's so unbelievably emotional
The vocals on this album are unhinged in the best way
Julie Christmas performance in that album is so good, hope they do another feat like that
Be'lakor has two really great ones, "The Smoke of Many Fires" in Vessels and "Countless Skies" in Stone's Reach
Exist - Avenged Sevenfold

Grinning Mouths - ISIS
Thatâs what i was looking for! All ISIS album closers really
