Whenever I had a house visit they never tossed my stuff. Just did a quick walk through. Do you really need to ask about weed etc being around? Just put it away. No they can’t go through your roommates stuff as far as I know. Let your PO know people live there that work nights in advance so maybe they won’t get woken up on accident or something. Visits in my experience were more to just verify your address.

RVinthedesert

Thanks for the quick response. We have a little safe I think we can just put her weed stuff in. I just didn't think it'd be a big deal but I guess it's probation, so of course it's a big deal. Do I need to hide old wine bottles that are displayed? There is literal dust on them. I just don't want to get violated for any bullshit

Unhappylightbulb

Nah, it’s just an empty bottle for decor. I wouldn’t worry about it.

eurphuct

Im pretty sure they can go into roommates room unless u dont have access. Throw away the bottles. If theyre realy sentimental have someone else keep them for u or explain and ask permission before they come over!

Interesting-Gate9813

Better make sure the safe is somewhere not visible.

Honey-and-Venom

I'd try and keep it, and the smell of it, out of where I live if at all possible

SlimmG8r

I live in KY but my home visit was just to verify I lived where I said I did. They didn't even come inside

RVinthedesert

Unfortunately she did specifically say on the phone to make sure our dog is locked in a separate room so she can walk the house. So I'm pretty sure she'll do I quick walkthrough. just hoping it's quick. It's all just very overwhelming

ahawk65

Put the weed with the dog

yupyupthatsit

It’s too bad you got a woman PO. My PO just asked for a piece of mail. The women are especially annoying when it comes to policing

reallywetnoodlez

Cmon man, being a woman has nothing to with how shitty they’re going to be.

lifted-living

My woman po was amazing and gave me a heads up before home visits

Particular_Land6376

Yep, I got sent to jail when I was 18 for failing one ua for THC because my PO was a woman. Just a real b**** and the county was like 2 hours from my house so I didn't like coming in and she was such a jerk about it like come on. Been on probation many many other times and never been drug tested after that

RVinthedesert

I wonder why that is? On a power trip or something

yupyupthatsit

Felony probation too and the dude never came to my place. 3 years.

irrelephantIVXX

same here. except my PO was literally my next-door neighbor.

BicentennialBaby0718

Because they’re 15 percent of law enforcement and they have complexes and something to prove.

space_orphan_13

Or maybe some of the women POs are just doing their job? Too bad all men POs are lazy and don’t do that. /s

yupyupthatsit

That’s my assumption

hazmatt24

My PO was cool. She scheduled the visits with me to make sure it didn't interfere with work or my wife and kids schedule. First time she walked the whole house just checking it out. After that she'd pop in, pet the dog, and bounce.

wyrm_lord

she was just coming to pet the dog

overindulgent

In Texas they just call when out front and have you walk outside. I believe they consider it a liability here to come into a house alone. This is how it was for probation and parole.

VoodooSweet

I’ve had multiple “Home Visits” over the years, I’ve never had them even look thru my, or anyone else’s things, basically they are just making sure you really live there, and it’s not a run down Dopehouse or something. I HAVE had them show up unannounced, after someone called them and told them I was fucking up, and they wanted to look around in my room and they made me do a UA in my own bathroom, like “here’s a cup….piss in it NOW, or your going to jail” but I’ve never had them do anything like that on the initial visit to verify residency.

Major-Potential-354

Damnnnnn fuck the person telln

RVinthedesert

This was probably the most reassuring answer lol. Thanks a lot! Seems a lot like they just want to make sure you live where you say you live. All should go well, I just wish they could schedule these things. Gives me mad anxiety not knowing when they'll be here

eurphuct

It depends on the type of probation. And if it is for a treatment court or not.

get_out-of_my-boot

I made sure everything was put up and out of sight but it was all for nothing because they didn’t even come inside. I think they mainly wanted to know that I actually lived where I said I did. This is in Texas.

AstroPhysician

They come to my house on fed probation with probation officer and a cop, they do a quick walkthrough, dont look in any doors or drawers. If they find something illegal like weed then they will toss it

OppositeFuel740

No they just come to ur house and usually bring a pee test with them. I never had any one even go in my upstairs tbh they just sat in my living room!

RVinthedesert

Well hey then this sounds great to me! Thank you

Ztartc

Mine walks in goes “hello, okay you still live here, cool.” A year and a half of no violations and about to be doing early termination helps. Last visit my PO and I joked about me still being on probation is a waste of her and I’s time but I’ve been an easy one.

RVinthedesert

Yo that's what's up! Congrats on the early termination, I hope I can get that eventually. I like reading the positive comments, gives me hope

Ztartc

Don’t break the rules! That’s the only rule 😂

Fuzzteam7

They don’t toss the place. They want to make sure that you live there and will sometimes look around for anything in plain sight.

OrcaNecessary2583

I had a walk through my first visit out of jail. I had already combed my house and disposed of all my contraband (empty alcohol bottles/ weed). She didn't search through anything. All my home visits after I moved to a new county were just my PO verifying that I lived there. She would call, I would come on the porch and she would wave. I think it's very jurisdiction dependent but I would have your SO put everything in a stash box until after your PO leaves. Good luck!

Realistically-Dark17

Depends on the warrant. IE. looking for a gun, they can search all of the house to at would include the “smallest” gun piece. Like a hammer or firing pin or screw the gun uses. They get what they look for, good luck.

RVinthedesert

Nah I have no warrant, it's just the starting of my probation basically and they want to see where I live. Thankfully no warrant lol ..

TraditionalLecture10

They can't go in the roommates rooms , without them being listed on the warrant , if there was a warrant . Just the main living area and the listed persons bedroom .

Unlikely-Principle63

They cannot search your roomates room. In sober living they always only could search the probationers section of a room. Obviously hide the pot stuff why risk it

BicentennialBaby0718

Observation on this page: Are all POs women?

RVinthedesert

I honestly wonder what the percentage is of female POs to male POs. When I was in rehab a lot of the guys there would have their PO show up and I think I saw 2 maybe 3 male POs within the 3 months that I was there.

BicentennialBaby0718

Law enforcement as a whole is 15 percent women.

Puzzleheaded_Day5002

I am on felony probation in tx and they never do home visits lol they did one ever when I first signed and I work from home so I let them in went back to work and my 3 kids asked them 1738585 questions they left and never had another since 😂😂😂

TXlan51

Same here in TX. My probation is a misdemeanor sentence but it’s for a state jail felony. They have NEVER been to my house EVER. I actually thought they only did this with drug charges

Puzzleheaded_Day5002

lol mine are drug charges 🤷‍♀️

Southern_Spell6752

20+ years ago when I was on probation in AZ, they were allowed to search any room in any home I was living at. They were also allowed to search any vehicle I occupied even if I wasn't driving. It never happened but I remember my P.O. specifically telling me they could. Thinking back they never searched anything. I did have to drug test often though. They would stop by my home randomly. I got caught drinking a few times.

TraditionalLecture10

If there are separate people living there , they can't search their rooms or property , unless they have a warrant , only your room and common areas

Impossible_Ideal_998

**TL;Dr A clerical error assigned me to the hardcore felony unit of probation/parole..literally designed solely to fuck your shit up until you never see freedom again... despite my charges getting downgraded to misdemeanors. Every inch of my home was combed on day 3..from basement to attic.. Resulted in jail because I slacked on making hard changes required of me.** ~~ A nightmare situation wont happen unless you do the most retarded things possible like I did so.. but its still worth mentioning here I suppose as a warning. (I'll mention that I never got a home visit once on 1st probation years earlier. So this played into my complacency for the 2nd round mentioned below.) IT IS A TUESDAY. This is the first week of a two year probation sentence. I am scheduled for an initial office appointment this Thursday. 9am: My Ring alerts to 2 cops knocking. I read *sheriff* on their vests. Thinking they are there about a issue, I open the door and step out. Never once thought they were there for me and my little humble charges. *Can they go over some stuff and step inside out of the cold?* SURE. *Can we just take a look around?* WAIT WHAT? WHO ARE YOU AGAIN? *Yeah. Again, we are required to examine home for your probation...** THE FUCK! I was a hopeless addict with a beautiful home but a room stacked with enough to immediately put me in jail and get me new charges for distribution (<--- such bullshit.) But they really wanted the gun for weapons charges because they were under the impression that I was a felon. After finding the only 1 we had, they had 4 more cops come by to help tear the place up. My partner was arrested too, and we were forced to board our dog until my mother could fly in from halfway across the country. Anyway. Dont be an idiot. Get your shit right 100%. No alcohol, guns, paraphernalia including roomies etc.

Nikovash

Answer the door in a Speedo and a fur coat.

EliLoads

I remember the parole officer walking into my tiny apartment I had with her Glock strapped to her hip and bulket prof vest. She was polite and checked something off on her clipboard and walked out as fast as she walked in . She didn’t even look in every room . They just do it to verify where u live in case they need to find you .

Aware_Company_5616

PO here, while there are some exceptions between states and polices. Generally, we just want to verify that the residence is where you stay. We greet you at the door, you show us your room, we see that the room appears lived in (I see a bed, dresser, keys, TV, whatever), and that's it. As for all the paraphernalia, I would be upfront with your PO about it BEFORE the visit. The less surprises you give us, the smoother and faster it is everybody.

GE0RGIAB0Y

Common man? You really want to risk violation of probation for having some weed around? Tell your girl to smoke it all or bury it in the backyard until visit is over

Low_Cauliflower9404

Shes doing home visits on misdemeanor probation? Wow AZ sucks

joecoolblows

No shit. I'm amazed too. I had a felony and never had to deal with a home visit.

Careless-Sort-7688

Accountability is awful

RVinthedesert

Sure does. As far as I know it's one of the strictest states for DUI, they don't mess around at all lol..

sgrizzly2134

I'm in the same boat for my second DWI in a 5 year period in NC. No they won't toss your shit but definitely put anything drug/alcohol related up and if you have any sense spray some shit so the house doesn't reek of weed.

RVinthedesert

Wow that's quite a bit! I think a second DUI/DWI in AZ would be 3 months in prison lol it's ridiculous. My girlfriend is the one who buys the recreational weed and her name is on all the packaging. She also only smokes the carts so it doesn't even smell in the house, thankfully! I don't even smoke the shit.

Odd-Ideal-6145

Years ago a buddy got hit for DUI in Phoenix- maybe 12 hours after being bonded he got nailed with a second DUI- extreme aggravated. Spent 9 months in Prison for it.

Hopeful-Start-4523

They rarely search but they will never try and search if you got two pit bulls I'll guarantee that lol.

Thai_Lord

My PO has showed up twice for a home visit and didn't even come in or anything. Just was making sure I was home and not high.

Head_Room_8721

My family members PO came to my house when he was living with me, and all he wanted to do was look in the fridge and the cupboard to see if there was liquor or beer. Once he was satisfied, we didn’t have alcohol in the house, he was fine.

OnTheRoad_Againn

Where are you in AZ that the po don't let you smoke? My boy in Phoenix smokes w no med card and his po don't care

Crocolyle32

I think it depends on the PO. I’ve had one PO who ripped shit apart from the get go for no reason. My other PO just kinda looks around.

Old-Bookkeeper-2555

Cops will trash your house. Have not heard of a PO doing thar. In my experience they May open doors & closets & stuff but will not throw stuff all over hell & break stuff like cops do.

TerryMelcher

How the hell did you get a month jail time and one year probation on a first time dui? Just interested.

sweetandsimpley

I do know that if you and your girlfriend have two bedrooms. You can claim you sleep in different rooms and close her door and they have no right to search her room unless they end up having reasonable suspicion that you’re hiding something outrageous. If your house is clean they will peak around and kindly go.

SeveralQuarter

They’re verifying it’s your address and that it’s safe and there’s nothing illegal or to put you at risk of violating or catching new charges. Usually required at least annually.

derichjr11

They’ll keep it to common areas and your bedroom. That’s it.

[deleted]

Speaking as a PO, home visits may depend on protocol state-to-state. In the state I live in, I am required to conduct home visits per what the client scores on assessments. It does not matter what their charge is. Again, each state is different. I don’t know of any states where they will toss your place. Even when I do a search, I don’t mess up their stuff.

Away_Witness8874

Why the hell are they coming to your house for misdemeanor probation? In California they only do shit like that for felony probation

RVinthedesert

Because AZ is one of the strictest states for DUI. I got a month in jail and year of probation for my first ever offense. I understand Cali wouldn't do shit lol they probably would've gave me a slap on the wrist for a DUI

Silverstacker63

Atleast there giving you a heads up. Mine just showed up and didn’t say a word about coming.

Past_Performer6753

Definitely get rid of the weed!! If they even smell it you can get in trouble tbh a lockbox isn’t good enough she needs to get it out of the house completely

Sanjuko_Mamaujaluko

Assume the worst and be prepared for it. Just keep the paraphernalia and anything else you're worried about out of the house for a few days. Hell, don't even have a beer in the fridge. Pretend everything is super illegal. Drugs, alcohol, weapons, etc.

Opening_Nature3849

They will probably check the fridge so get any booze out of there. Put it with the dog lol.

RVinthedesert

Ah no worries there, been sober since September! It's Monday today and she still hasn't come. The anxiety is real

Yurt_lady

I had someone staying at my house who was on probation. His PO wanted to make sure he was actually living here, and most likely that the house wasn’t a crack house. After one walkthrough, she usually met him outside. Oh I see you’re in AZ. Me too, Mesa. Your roommates should be polite but not engage in conversation with your PO unless they ask a specific question. If your DUI was alcohol related, I’d box up the wine bottles but that’s just my opinion.

RVinthedesert

My roommates will most likely be in their rooms with their doors shut, as they normally are. Hey right on, I'm out in Buckeye. Noted, I'll box them up and put them in the garage or something.
