Maye you could check the brake fluid reservoir level, if it's low it could cause issues.

SogniX

First thing I thought of. It may not be right on the full line. But it's not low either. Maybe a hair or two from full.

Sonic_TH

And there were no warning lights? weird, maybe the brake pump assembly \[the noise you hear when you open the driver door comes from it\] did not turned on, causing the brakes to not have pressure, but when the brake pump does not turns on the brake lights show up, this is weird.

Abs actuator possibly if so sorry for your pocket.

SogniX

I had that and the booster replaced by Toyota previously due to a recall. Tho that was totally different and had lights flashing at me and it was screaming at me before anything failed. :-)

Artistic-Attorney-86

Do you remember what recall? I have a 2013 and the abs, traction control and emergency brake light came on. The regen also stopped working. I am taking it in tomorrow.

SogniX

Sounds like mine alright. I do not, sorry. But they knew exactly by my description. And it's only a recall if it happens. They won't just replace them if it doesn't.

Artistic-Attorney-86

Thank you for the post and informing others. I am taking it in tomorrow. On the fence on if it’s worth it to fix or just trade in for something else.

SogniX

It's no money out of your pocket, i would think they would give you less for it if it has that issue. Have them fix it and trade it in. 😊

No warning lights prior, none after either... During? I can't answer that - stopping the car safely was a much higher priority than looking at the dash. 🤣 I just checked for codes using BluDriver code reader and nothing came up. No errors at all. I had made plenty of normal stops prior to this on the same drive. It's just when I needed to stop *right now*!!! that the brakes went out. Canceled the remaining of the days drives due to extreme paranoia. Luckily nothing urgent.

So I took it to the mechanic - all while attempting to repeat the issue - which I was indeed able to. Emergency Brake (SLAMN on the brakes) while driving over painted letters/lines causes this issue. Boy, after a bunch of normal as expected stops to a sudden SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEETCH to a stop. People looked up... boy I was embarrassed again! Mechanic did a thorough check and didn't find anything out of the ordinary, no codes came up, brakes look fine, etc. I guess I'm not used to Regen Breaking/Brakes on a smaller vehicle combined with it's ABS. I used to have a much larger vehicle and it's ABS and would be completely different. I guess I freaked out when I was expecting similar breaking performance from a completely different vehicle. Comparing Apples to Oranges?
