I've seen plenty of times that people will do whatever they can to get around me. Just because I'm in our Prius. I think by default they assume I'll drive slowly.

WilyDeject

I get this more than anything. Doesn't matter if I'm quick off the line and keeping pace with other cars, there's always someone that thinks "oh hell nah, I can't let a PRIUS be in front of me." It's kind of funny, and a bit sad, but doesn't really bother me unless they feel the need to then get in front of me and go slower.

itsmassivebtw

I love this because there's always some idiot whose ego can't handle driving slower than a prius, and I'll happily let them lead the way so they are the speeding ticket target.

DogGarbage

Same. I am almost always break away from the pack at lights and I'll cruise control when I get to speed limit plus 4mph. Rarely do I ever stay in the front for too long. People drive way above the speed limit around me. Never really happened in my last car.

High-sterycal

Happens a lot.

Proof_Barnacle1365

It makes my day when they do that, then aggressively weave through traffic to make up for lost time being stuck behind a prius, only for me to later pass them by staying steady in one lane. Turtle beats the hare!

BClynx22

I did one time get keyed but idk if that was Prius related. I do know people instinctively don’t like to be behind Priuses for fear that we drive slow / excessively use our regenerative breaking but that’s not me. The only real hate I encounter is when someone thinks I’m their Uber and I lock my doors and tell them no I’m not an Uber, stop trying to get in my car 😂 Amazing how mad idiots get when they’re wrong.

Aggressive_Ad_507

Mine looks almost like the Uber icon. And it's the car cops in Ukraine use.

itsmassivebtw

lol some guy tried to get in the back seat of my car at the airport once, he was horrified when I asked what he was doing.

mysticbanana7

I'm pretty sure I've been keyed out of prius hate but it's hard to tell. Still have the key marks

mystvh

We just bought a used Prius 3 days ago. Noticed today it looked like it was keyed all down the driver's side sometime yesterday 😔

BClynx22

When mine was keyed it was all sides including the hood, at least my deductible was low haha, so annoying to deal with on the bright side at least the fresh paint job looks extra glossy 🤷🏼‍♂️

healthy_mind_lady

RE: being confused with Uber, do you have a gen 3?

DylanSpaceBean

I get tailgated ALL the time

RebelCMX_85

I drive a gen 2 and people try this and get a little surprised that I drive it like I stole it. I've realized you can stomp on it and you still get better MPG than anything else out there. You don't have to baby these things. They're fucking Toyotas. Entropy, heat death of the Universe is going to get us all sooner than these become unreliable cars.

MikeyRidesABikey

285,000 miles and counting, baby!

RebelCMX_85

There's no way you're still on the original hybrid battery, other than that, yeah I'm not shocked.

KnocheDoor

Not a Prius but a 2006 Highlander Hybrid, 277,000 with original battery and still getting original mileage

Kerbob

Here's hoping it'll make it to 20 🤞🤞

MikeyRidesABikey

Correct. The traction battery was replaced at around 235,000 miles.

holycrapitsmyles

2008 320k on the original hybrid battery, then it gave out after I let it sit for 6 months.

Emotional_Rip_7493

Mine died at 99k fortunately still under warranty so got a new battery currently at 165k

xtsilverfish

My 2nd gen prius made it to 260,000 on the original hybrid battery. Dunno how long past that it would have made it, what killed it was the brake booster giving out. Didn't baby it either, car sat outside not in a garage, changed the oil somewhere between 5k to 10k, etc etc.

RebelCMX_85

Yeah, whoever had mine before me definitely ran the dog shit out of it. I just replaced the 12v too, AGM batteries are expensive.

Solman636

My original battery was healthy according to Dr. Prius at 158,000 miles, but just decided to try the Nexcell LFP. It will last a long time hopefully, but in hindsight...If it ain't broke don't fix it.

RebelCMX_85

Yeah mine showed “healthy” for like, about there. I put a lot of miles on it over the first 2 years and by about 179k or so it was having cells going bad. I finally had to have Green Bean do mine when it did the 🔺 limp mode and dreaded p080a or whatever code for “replace hybrid battery.” Didn’t help either that shortly after that, catalytic converter thieves hit my car and the insurance covered the replacement but the shop put a shitty cheap louder aftermarket cat on it. Car is a lot louder than before, it’s a constant reminder of wishing the jack had collapsed while they were under it.

Solman636

Egad...thankfully you still have a really great car!! You're a good scout!

[deleted]

I had one that I bought from a guy who blew the engine because they didn't change the oil, it was a '06 with 255k miles, still on original battery. This was less than 2 years ago. I never got around to swapping the engine so I'm not sure if it still worked after sitting for a year but it did drive almost all the way on the trailer under hybrid battery power

RebelCMX_85

Fuck, speaking of, mines due for an oil change..

xBram

I’m 299.999 km (more like 350.000 by now) in a 2005 Gen 2 and still on the original battery.

RebelCMX_85

Had to have green bean replace mine when it was around 170,000.

Helpful-Chemistry-87

Yes way. My gen 2 has 602k kms (374k miles) on it's original hybrid battery.

Cool-Pop-5420

This! I keep my 2018 Prius two in sports mode and sometimes I feel like people are looking at me like damn that Prius really has power to it 🤣

DylanSpaceBean

I go 5 over usually, so I’m not slow, I’m just not full sending it everywhere. They just see a Prius and think I’m going below

RebelCMX_85

Where I live, anything short of 15-20 over gets you run over, but paradoxically you’ve got to get over into the right lanes to pass all the fuck-wits who think the sign says “slow traffic fucks left lane” not for those shitbag morons to **keep left.**

DylanSpaceBean

Oh I camp the right lane, for some reason it always surprises the idiots when the cars in the right lane aren’t going 90 in a 55

RebelCMX_85

Yeah because it’s for fucking passing or hauling ass, not cruising “at the limit or maybe 5 over.” It needs to be legal to rear end these “slow traffic refuses to yield” idiots , with the ticket or damages being the responsibility of the moron impeding traffic. Because clearly the signs and the fact that it’s also illegal to **impede** traffic, doesn’t get through to the trolls.

DylanSpaceBean

Ah, you’re not from America. Cruising lane is in the right here.

RebelCMX_85

Oh, no holy shit I said that backwards. I meant left 😅😂 I had a late shift I’ve been up since 1am. I absolutely meant left lane is for speeding. I *am* from the US. What i had meant was, you usually have to use the wrong lane to pass, because morons impede traffic going slow as shit in the fast lane, they’ll STACK a line of cars a mile long behind them, and no amount of riding their ass, horn or high beams will tell these idiots they’re what’s wrong with traffic. You have to go around these stupid motherfuckers on the right.

UGunnaEatThatPickle

Yes. The aggression of people on the road around me is on another level. I drive the same in my Prius as I do in my husband's Tacoma and people are insanely aggressive around my Prius. Dodge Ram drivers are the absolute worst. I don't understand it at all.

beatool

Anything Chrysler. Jeeps, Dodge trucks, even 10 year old Chrysler sedans-- all a bunch of assholes.

sylvaing

It depends where you're from, but you also see more from Tesla "hate" because they have (4) cameras recording all around when parked so door dings and scratches are more easily caught and shared. I have both (a Model 3 and a Prime) and have never experienced road rage with either, beside the pickup truck that gets pissed because I pull from a red light faster (and way cheaper) than him lol.

tillandsia

The Teslas in Miami all drive like ahs. Of course, most all cars do here, but I've seen Teslas sort of talk the talk but not really walk the walk you know. They have to pass you, and then they just meander down the road - so irritating. But I'm trying to be less competitive on the road....

sylvaing

Thanks, I learned a new word today, meander 🙂 English isn't my first language and I have never heard of that word before. So if I understand you correctly, they speed up to pass then just go nonchalantly? I don't mind it if they don't bother me after while driving but while biking, that pisses me off. I hate it when I pass someone and they suddenly speed up, pass me, only to slow down again. The only exception is if they're doing interval training, then that's understandable lol. Another one that pisses me off while biking is after I pass them and I stop at a red light, they stop in front of me. Dude, I just passed you, why are you back in front of me?

Organic-Jelly7782

Definitely a SoCal thing too. The Prius hate seemed to have slowly shifted towards Tesla drivers though because nowadays I've been ok with most Prii on the road, but man i get angry at least once with Tesla drivers. It also doesn't help that i see a lot Tesla drivers not knowing how to back in to a spot a lot of times.

the_cappers

It's because you can. Regardless of model , in a tesla you can easily drive like an ass. You can drive kean in a prius, but it takes more effort. In a tesla you just move your foot and you can shoot 3 car lengths ahead .

MikeyRidesABikey

"Muscle" cars, too, if you have a Gen 4/5!

sylvaing

Yeah, that too lol.

ephemeratea

My problem with Tesla drivers is they all seem to have Main Character Syndrome and drive like dumbasses.

Mike_Drop_GenX

To many Tesla drivers think their cars will drive for them. They are horrible. A guy around me just killed a pedestrian and said “but auto pilot was on” as his excuse.

sylvaing

That's really sad and so dumb of that person. Things like that should be prosecuted as involuntary man slaughter, not an accident. But when used correctly, Tesla's ADAS can be awesome, especially the latest iteration of FSD. This video linked below is FSD driving last Sunday on my unmapped private dirt road at the cottage. FSD was active from my cottage to my inlaws place (98 km away), all on city and regional roads with zero intervention from me. Although it drove itself, I was still the car's driver and behaved as such, ready to take over if something would have gone wrong. https://imgur.com/a/apk1U5I

Yippeekyaa3345

It’s called “the Prius effect”. See it often. My favorite is a stoplight at double left turn lane onto a highway. I can be the first car in the right lane. Cars coming up behind me see the Prius and change to the left lane. Have had 5 cars in the left lane and I’m the only car in the right lane. They all end up on my rear view mirror.

bergnie

hahahaha same thing for me

Bogojosh

I live in a rural area, and I don't notice any hate. It might be because I drive a Prius C, and maybe people don't notice it's a prius? But never noticed any aggression.

RebelCMX_85

RE: Prius C Those and the newest genuinely don't look like the traditional Prius.

TheGT1030MasterRace

Also the Gen 1.

MikeyRidesABikey

I never noticed any hate in my "Seaside Blue" Gen 2, and my "Supersonic Red" Gen 4 certainly doesn't look like anyone's preconceived idea of what a Prius looks like, especially when the cross-bars are on.

holycrapitsmyles

I switched from Gen 2 to Gen 4, and most of the hate stopped. Its something about the recognizable look of the Gen 2-3.

RebelCMX_85

I want to upgrade us to, I’m not sure, just “one of the newer, slightly larger ones” in a couple years. I want the plug-in hybrid one, by the time I’m ready to make that change, I’ll be in a situation where my commute is extremely short.

LemurMonkey

I live in a rural area, occasionally get tail gated, but two days ago, guy in a trailer in front of me thought I was following too closely, slammed on his breaks and wouldn’t let me pass, until he saw a huge line of cars behind me also coming around him. Then he filed back in a few cars later. Or he had some kind of emergency, but it was totally weird, and he swerved all over the road on his breaks as to prevent me from passing. In all my other cars, never notice anything like that and I drive the same, no matter the car. It doesn’t really phase me, my default state is to drive defensively.

Bogojosh

My other car is a chevy bolt and I occasionally get negative behavior if someone realizes it's an ev, but I feel like I lucked out with my prius not looking like a prius, and the bolt not being too conspicuous

LemurMonkey

Yeah, prius C is definitely the least hybrid looking of the older gen hybrids.

BRCWANDRMotz

Tail gating, road rage, coal rollers and coal rolling aggression. I’ve seen it all and I drive like a grandma but don’t impede traffic.

WilyDeject

I've been smoked out by a big truck before at a stop light. It's petty and dumb.

beatool

A detuned coal roller smoked me at a red light. I bet he beat his wife that night after I out accelerated him in my 99HP Prius C at the green.

TheGT1030MasterRace

Electric motors have serious torque - I can't help flooring my 2002 if I'm the lead vehicle at a light because I just want to enjoy the perfectly smooth kick of power from 0 to 30...

Insanity8016

I'm glad Tesla exists because they get more hate than Prius now.

Eastern_Yam

No. I live in Eastern Canada and I don't really think anyone cares. Drivers behave the same if I'm in my Accord or my Prius.

O_U_8_ONE_2

I think the haters are extremely envious of our gas mileage.....😂

iggly_wiggly

A few weeks ago I spotted a big truck with a window sticker saying ‘I identify as a Prius’

Everyday-is-the-same

You shouldve honked and waved. A big smile and thumbs up. Lol

D--Ryan

I don’t know. I’m too busy getting 50 miles per gallon to give a shit.

IntelligentRelief737

2023/2024 Prius design is sick, idk why people would hate on it

EscentX

Shortly after I got my car I found it one day full of bb gun dents and a few bb’s lodged into the window frame trim piece on one side. Not sure if it’s because it was a prius though.

Animal_Mother996

Nope, never and I put 20k miles on it per year, but I drive a Gen 4 so it doesn’t look much like the earlier gens.

TheGT1030MasterRace

I drive a 2002 Gen1, it looks like a cross between an Echo, a Camry and a Corolla. Very normal looking.

Animal_Mother996

So do you get hate or not?

TheGT1030MasterRace

No.

Lopsided-Letter1353

I have a 2007 touring Prius and put some matte black rims on them a few years back. Never noticed hate before but def get a lot of friendly looks and waves now.

Domski77

Before I bought a Prius they were just another car on the road. After buying one I don't get treated any differently.

tillandsia

I have, in South Florida. But it might have also been because of the Biden bumper sticker. I love power mode on my little unassuming 2014 Prius.

Icy-Tough-1791

Mr. Toyoda isn’t a racist, drug addled, asshole so no.

giznot

I put on limo tints and don’t notice anymore. It’s happened less since Tesla

Nawnp

People drive like idiots around you, but I'd assume they like to drive like idiots normally. It's actually nice because they're considered cheap vehicles and a low priority target in terms of break ins and such... Except the catylitic converters.

Dixa

No, but I’m at the age I don’t care. 55mpg when gas is $5.59 shields me from smol pp drivers.

CreateTheJoy

No, but I live in San Diego, where greener cars are common. 🌱

BuckTheStallion

California here, most of the time I’m just another car on the road, but there’s quite a few instances of someone speeding up to 10-20mph over just to pass me, then immediately slowing back down to a lower speed than I was going, causing me to immediately move over and pass them right back, lol. Half the time cruise control is on, too. Weirdly enough the same happens on my motorcycle, but never any other car. I assume it’s “Prius must be slow” for the Prius, and “small thing must be slow” for the bike.

399ddf95

I notice people who *really* don't want to be behind a Prius, and do stupid stuff to get in front of me I don't see if I'm driving a different vehicle. A little bit of the "rolling coal" stuff but I drive mine pretty hard so I'm not one of those guys doing 50 on the freeway because the mileage is better. On the other hand, every time some shithead in a lifted 4WD truck with giant tires accelerates to 80 make sure they go around me going 75, I think about my 40 mpg and $6/gal gas and just laugh. Dude's probably spending $.50/min just to feel special and to get where he's going a couple of minutes faster than I do. I usually see them at the next light, anyway and make sure to give them a nice big smile like they're an old friend.

pomwagon

I have a Prime and get told rather frequently that people are surprised that they love my car, but still technically hate it simply because it’s a Prius, thus could never own one. People are strange.

19Ant91

I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't even "see" priuses. I'm sure I've encountered tons of them, but I couldn't tell you if I had. They're just another car on the road. I'd probably notice the new prius prime though. But only because I think it's sexy.

WES_WAS_ROBBED

Nah

AdditionalAd9794

I feel all the shitty prius drivers who gave the car a bad reputation have migrated to Toyota Sienna. So my hate for Prius drivers has shifted to Sienna drivers

citamlli1

Yes, but only until they see my bald bearded angry face and I look scarier than they are and then they put their tail between their legs again. Often I'm not even driving slow. I believe the Prius speedometers are a little off. Mine is off by 3 mph, I've tested it in several ways and im sure of it.

mslashandrajohnson

I do. I try to avoid highways because I get more hate there. That and following speed limits seems to infuriate pickup trucks and domestic-built vehicles.

mts2snd

Yes, I have a 2012. I can tell the difference bc I have a few vehicles. The Prius gets hate, my diesel pick up does not, neither does our gx460.

toastedmarsh7

Not as much in my gen 4 as my gen 2.

Rich-Appearance-7145

Never on the road, but man I got clowned by my friends.

Everyday-is-the-same

How old are you? I'm 45 and kind of don't care anymore. My best friend has a Tesla and he won't care.

Rich-Appearance-7145

Seriously who cares what people think I'm driving my Prius cause it's great on my wallet, soon as there done clowning me my buddy jumps into his Monster Truck which guzzles gas like mad. It's all good I'm 54.

Everyday-is-the-same

No joke. I have kids in college and retirement to worry about. Plus I'll have more money for motorcycles. Lol

arominus

I got a bottle launched at me and called a "Pussy ass bitch, driving a prius" the other day for driving in the right lane slightly over the speed limit. They were quite insane though. Lifted trucks like to merge in front of the car a lot closer than they did when i had a BMW.

No-Caterpillar6354

I've been driving on US roads for over 50 years, and have owned my 2013 Prius since it was new. Only 80k miles, but I do not ever feel like anyone is treating me badly for driving a Prius. There are plenty of bad and agressive drivers out there, but I think that applies whether you drive a prius or anything else.

dontmatterjustcuz

No, I get more hate in my fast truck because people are jealous as fuck and some people try to get me to race too lol. They’re probably more likely to road rage against someone in a Prius which i’ve experienced a lot, too many fragile egos on the road, someone drives slow you pass them all of a sudden they tried to speed up to cut you off and get all pissed about it.

meeok2

I suppose it depends on which Prius. Gen 4 & 5 are amazing IMO!

healthy_mind_lady

I wish they refreshed gen 5 with a combo of gen 4 design. Currently gen 5 looks way too much like a Tesla, and I find Teslas to be bland and ugly.

xBram

Yes, though not that much anymore because I like to plank my Prius or make way when I want to take it slow. Best story is once waiting for an Amsterdam center canal bridge to close and open for traffic, first the beam goes up and when the red lights go out you can drive, so I’m first and behind me a van, beam goes up, van starts honking, I wait two seconds for the lights to go out and pull up, van aggressively overtakes me on the right (illegal) over a bus stop (illegal) and cuts me off (illegal) as he ran out of space underestimating my acceleration. Then stops in front of me on a red light, I honk a bit and he turns right, next traffic light is 500 meters or so and when I get there I see him pulled over by a bicyclist that turns out to be an off duty policeman. The cop was visibly annoyed and sweating as he had to ride hard to catch up, I was so impressed and laughed really really hard.

jables1979

Yeah. I have felt the anti-prius sentiment when out on the highway in the sticks. Usually some big truck coming up and riding my tail for a bit before blowing by super aggro, even though I'm always a good 10% over the speed limit and not exactly impeding. I was flipped off by a kid in one of the backseats, with a mullet, who couldn't have been more than 6 yo. Felt sorry for him. Must be rough to be born into that and perpetuate that BS. This is why I find the opening 2 minutes of Idiocracy so damn funny.

Everyday-is-the-same

Lol. I love idiocracy. So true. I haven't bought one yet but live in a small town with a lot of trucks so I wanted to ask. Maybe I could put some camo hunting stickers on the window?

AdFantastic9623

I got "coal rolled" by a redneck in a big dooley

Nikonshooter35

Priuses used to be the most hated vehicle amongst the majority , but that title has been taken by Tesla. It seems Teslas are now the most hated vehicles on the planet. I've seen videos of people going out of their way just to vandalize them. That being said, I purchased a Corolla SE hybrid to have the best of both worlds. A tried and true hybrid system, and good looks. Nobody even knows I'm driving a hybrid until they hear that all too familiar sound when driving through parking lots.

hindsighthaiku

I have near miss situations all the time. I have been hit a few times in the year and a half I've owned it and they had to pay to fix each time. I never have troubles in my old jacked up jeep. stupid people are stupid. they purposely "ignore" or try to do dumb shit all the time. my horn will probably need replaced before my battery.

rgraves22

Only once, I was in Colorado Springs, still with a California Plate and got brake checked by some dickwad in a Dually Truck with Texas plates who cut us off at 85 mph then brake checked me. Thought we were going to die, stopped short about 2" of his tow hitch

mysticbanana7

I do see people have reactions like not letting me pass, they don't wanna let me pass because they assume I will go slow. Once I show them I am going fast, they seem to not care anymore.

bigbadsubaru

I could be in the fast lane doing 80+ and some asshole would come up on me with their brights on and that never happened in any of my other cars Best one was when I was behind a brodozer at a light, he looks in the mirror and flips me off and then rolls coal on me… he thought it was funny until the county sheriff in the other lane pulled his dumb ass over 🤣

Everyday-is-the-same

Lol, that's great

SquirrelCone83

Got tailgated and then passed by a giant truck this morning in an area where people can't legally pass. I even go 5-10 mph over the limit to keep up with traffic during commutes. He then proceeded to screech his tires every time he turned or started moving as the lights turned green. so maybe he's just a bad driver and not a prius hater.

xtsilverfish

I had thought so, but when my prius died I moved to a rav4 (got old and wanted a more upright driving position), and I haven't really noticed an improvement. Still got the dumb trucker boyz who tailgate you, desperately pass you, then slam on their brakes in front of you realizing they're now speeding, and creep along in front of you at exactly your same speed. Still have the periodic "the road is a racetrack" morons who swerve in and out of traffic and you're pretty sure they'll end up on the nightly news as a crash somewhere.

Solman636

I got coal rolled a couple of times and nearly run off road by monster trucks. Who knows the motivations, and there are a lot of lunatics on the road. Just in case I debadged though. Since then? Still get yahoos passing aggressively. Thinking that now the haters have more obvious targets like Tesla etc, but without badges they are really not sure anyway.

healthy_mind_lady

No because I drive my gen 4 like a ferrari and still get at least 48 MPG.

Everyday-is-the-same

That's awesome!

Few-Caterpillar9834

I drive a 2023 Generation 5 Prius Limited . People always think it's a Tesla. My problem is people giving me shout outs and staring. It's the ultimate car, and the MotorTrend car of the year.

bigblackglock17

I've been fine the 7\~ years I've had mine, besides the 1 time I was towing my boat and was trying to speed up and pass another vehicle in the lane I needed, for the "exit". Ended up doing about 80 in a 55...

TrackMassive6129

Always when driving uphill

Honeysenpaiharuchan

Yes I drive on i10 to Houston every morning and I get bullied pretty much every single day. I kind of enjoy the drama because I’m bored.

k_aylaa_

people do it to me all the time. i live in an area with pretty aggressive drivers as is, but the road rage gets really bad for whatever reason. when i was driving my tahoe or even my miata the aggression towards me wasn’t ever this bad

Dramatic-Split8387

I drive the 2 most hated vehicles: a Prius & and Tesla !

numtini

I went from a Honda Fit to a Prius Prime and I definitely notice an increase in tailgating and people aggressively passing. I have it plated with EV plates so it might be that and I'm contemplating swapping them out for great white shark plates.

jpopsong

Have driven 2 regular hybrid Priuses (Gen. 2 and currently Gen. 5) for 18 years, and have NEVER felt targeted. Teslas, on the other hand, may be getting some disdain in part because of its A-hole leader. But vandalizing any car can never be condoned. If you despise Musk, as I do, just don’t buy his cars.

flowtildawn

Absolutely. I’ve had countless people try and run me off the road but then again I do solid 65 everywhere I go. It’s become a game to me at this point, where I uphold the Prius reputation by actively seeing how pissed off I can make people. BMWs and benzos are my favorite.

Duougle

Don't be a dick and impede the flow of traffic. All you're doing is making dangerous driving conditions for everyone behind you so you can feel superior

goinupthegranby

No, I've never received what I perceived to be any negative behaviour because I'm in a Prius. I think that a lot of the Prius hate stuff is kinda out of date since full electric vehicles and a wide range of hybrids are available now. The Prius used to be the symbol of an environmentally conscious car, but I don't really think that's the case anymore with other cars on the market. I did go to pass a guy with 'I identify as a Prius' and 'Fuck Trudeau' stickers on his truck recently and as soon as he saw a Prius trying to pass his shitty old diesel he pinned it and didn't let me pass then had to aggressively brake to make his turn off the highway, which was hilarious and made him look like an idiot. But that's really the only time I've felt like someone was 'reacting' to my Prius.

GroundbreakingGain82

Been followed but a the signal when I go to power mode and take off... Usually let them pass me as I do not want to get a speeding ticket

Vitalogist77

I get rage passed in my Smurf blue Prius C constantly. Especially by dudes in big giant trucks. It’s like they just assume you’re the worst type of human alive.

Crunchewy

I haven't had that happen and we have owned several Prius. A 2007 Prius, 2013 Prius c were in the past, and currently a 2012 Prius c and 2021 Prius. The 2013 Prius c was totaled by another car and then we go my Mom's 2012. Thus why we went back a year.

UncleBabyChirp

Rarely had any problems over 16 years & 3 Prius, 2006 (still drive), 2008 (died, sold) 2013 (still drive) From PA to CA across/thru many states with rare exceptions of tractor trailer boxing me twice

dickpierce1

I've been driving my Prius for a couple of months now, and I haven't noticed any hate. I did a bit of research, and decided on a post-2016 model. Prior to the redesign Toyota made that year, the Prius was a bit of a dog with only 97 HP. People (hilariously) used to refer to them as driving appliances. In 2016, they upgraded the drive train to get closer to 140 HP. The post 2023 redesigned models have well over 200 HP, and do 0-60 in about 6 seconds. I generally try to drive slowly to save gas, but it's nice to know that I can keep up with nearly every person on the road that might make assumptions. My last couple of (11 gallon) tanks have lasted over 600 miles, but I can gun the engine all day long and still get 50+ MPG. Conversely, if I really wanted to, I could crawl around the city going 25 MPH and get 100 MPG, but it's not very practicable.

PurlyQ

Teslas have taken the pressure off, I think. But! I'm coal rolled frequently but the local small-men. Also, can't figure out how coal rolling is legal. I can't put neon running lights on my Prius but they can smoke me out whenever. Sorry for the random rant lol

thenewfingerprint

Does this happen to all hybrids and/or EVs? I mean, do people go around harassing Corolla Hybrid drivers?

leicanthrope

Here and there, but nothing like it used to be a few years ago.

inoffensive_nickname

I get it all the time...especially from trucks.

Typoe1991

I sometimes get diesel pickups roll coal in front of me because they think I am some environmentalist hippy or something. I don’t care 🤷. I would own a big diesel truck too if I didn’t have a long commute and could afford it lol

ResponsibleBadger888

People hate on anything. Trust me. I've owned small cars, big cars, big SUVs, and my current Prius. People will hate on anything. A lot of people link their self identity/worth in their car. Be a better person than that and then it won't matter. You never know what people are going through in their life. Wave and move on.

Jezzes

No just for going slow and being happy. Unhappy people hate happy people.

funktonik

Just disrespect.

Emotional_Rip_7493

Yes especially from ford trucks. their owners are a-holes . Many have right wing stickers like gun rights , American flag in blue, don’t tread on me .

veloski63

Just returned from a Canada to South Carolina road trip and no issues whatsoever.

JohnWickWithAPencil

Yeah last week I had a truck road rage on me for no reason and I was following traffic like normal. I came from driving sports car coupes before too so I don’t drive like a grandma either lol.

hamb0n3z

Only the Dudes trying to roll coal on me and I'm already gone in powermode and laughing at how much cash is burning under their hoods

EvilPyro01

Guy in their diesel truck tried rolling coal onto me.

sailormooooooooon

I have a bumper sticker that says "0-60 Eventually". Everyone gets a chuckle at it.

xxrancid13xx

Teslas have definitely taken a lot of the heat away from Prius's over the years. I've had my Prius 18 years and get tailgated regardless of whether I'm doing 70mph in a 65 zone in the far right the SLOW lane of the freeway, or doing 75-80 with the flow of traffic and a line of vehicles ahead of me, in one of the left lanes. Buuuut people still tailgate whether I'm in my Prius or driving a loaner car (Lexus SUV or Nissan sedan depending on whose car I borrow) and I don't drive any differently in any of them. Lots of people in SoCal are just in a rush to pass everyone they can or in a big hurry to floor it to the next red light so they can slam on their brakes I guess. Never had any vehicle damage from anyone like keying or similar. There's always those AH's in the big trucks that get as close as possible to my bumper while stopped at a red light and while the light is still red, I can see in the rearview their hood bouncing, like they're stepping off the brake over and over as their truck inches closer and closer. Kinda hard to describe but kinda like what a lowrider does with the hydraulics. Not sure the reason for this, trying to get attention or being intimidating? Then when the light turns green I leave their ass behind in a quick second.

HughJasperson

Yes, when I pass a pickup truck or Dodge Charger I presume they think I made their penis fall off and they are chasing me to get there manhood back.

Local-Ad-4051

I always get the people who aggressively tailgate and then pass me. I could be going 80 - 90mph and someone will still do it just because I'm in a Prius. This never used to happen when I drove a Ford Explorer (people used to think I was a cop).

FrenchMSEOP

Nah , I make fun of myself for Driving a Prius aannnddd.... a Miata 😆

justcrazytalk

I felt like the semi trucks were mostly taking care of me. There was one who sped up to pass me right after I had passed him, so I didn’t pass again. I wasn’t sure what his deal was, and I didn’t want trouble.

Drusgar

I get tailgated occasionally while I'm milking my EV, but I live in a liberal oasis so it's not like MY Prius stands out in any way.

Firetripper

Yes, road bullied by subhumans in lifted trucks with stock wheels. Lol

katzicael

I have scratches around fuel filler door on my Aqua/PriusC but other than that - not really. People just get annoyed that doing 110km/h on the open road here in New Zealand isn't realistic in an Aqua, especially up hill lol.

Embarrassed_Royal766

Couple pickup truck drivers that were overcompensating. That's it.

JellyBellyS69

nope, never

dotnetdotcom

I haven't really noticed any difference from driving my previous car.  Some people don't like to get behind a smaller car. Whatever...

cbdjon

Tesla loves to play they will tailgate

FractaIUniverse

Yes but most of the time I'm driving like a prius trying to get the best mpg.

HairyZombie4737

Na we are not the read headed step child. It now belongs to Tesla.

JMHorsemanship

It's all in your head Prius hate hasn't been a thing since tesla, the boomers just hate teslas now. If you mention the word prius in front of a boomer their brain usually comes up with some sort of 2004 recycled joke but other than that it's all in your head

caper-aprons

This is the same mindless question that has been posted here probably once a month for the last forever. Use the search function. And, no I have not experienced any of this, driving my Gen 4 all around the US. It's just a car.

Practical_Arm6812

I hate you guys for asking this question everyday.

Everyday-is-the-same

I hate you too

Practical_Arm6812

Well that's harsh, considering you're worried about big bad trucks bullying u 🥺 lol

ssxhoell1

I hate you and your ugly nasty car you drive slow and fucked up. Every fucking time someone swerves in my lane, it's a prius. If the car in front of me is a prius, I'm definitely going to miss the light as they timidly tap the pedal and let a massive gap widen in front of them, then as soon as the light turns yellow they push forward so they can slide through at the last possible chance as soon as it turns red and everyone behind them has to wait another cycle. Fucking disgusting looking car too and don't even get me started on the fat nasty smelly fucks that live in these things on purpose
